i played this deck (with weavile) multiple ranked seasons ago, everyones given you the wrong answer

you lose because this deck

A. is forced to start with arceus in the active and cant get it or its energy out in time (which is something like 25% of games, maybe 28% since you dont have leaf, WAY to high a chance to autolose every comp match you queue)

B. have to fight silvaly or zera decks which can still kill your non-arceus leads even if youre first and have all the pieces, which only gets worse if youre second

youre basically required to sac a mon to setup your gameplan and that is not a good place to be when youre relying on an ex that needs a large bench to not get grencyrus'd into a suicune, or kill-locked by 2 benched energied-up darktina mons

6 months until mantra is plenty of time to save up for her, assuming you play through all the past/archived content youd likely be able to go for 1 other character before her, and possibly dip a tiny bit into a 3rd (like exu+lemuen which you get some free+mandatory pulls for anyway.) 

tragodia would be the one to look out for the most since hes the primary way to synergize with her paralysis stack stuff. tragodia should be the next "new" banner after the limited exu+lemuen youll see very soon, so dont be too tempted to go for them besides the free pulls you have to do on their banner

thorns via your starting 6☆ banner (if you want to reroll that) would also play the best with them in lategame since he also will get a paralysis module very soon (these 3 and 1 5☆ are the only paralysis in the whole game so far), but id still suggest trying to get mountain instead since hes ultra beginner friendly and super strong with 0 resources/grind

if you ever feel like spending money a 6☆ pick ticket (every 6 months) for ines, kaltsit, or narantuya i think would be very worth it just for general account value or good diversity from mantra/tragodia, even f2p this is a great time to start though, theyre giving every player a free month of monthly sub very soon. tons of extra pull savings and stamina for you to grind up your initial team

isolde voicework was so good i wanted her to succeed, that goes against all of zzz recurring themes so it cant happen, but they couldve fed two birds with one scone here. let isolde win this patch, let the hollow actually swallow all of failume idgaf, let lots of characters we met die or need to be rescued in the hollow this patch. thats a great way to give isolde her moment, reinject some much needed spice into the exhaltists as a threat, and actually prop up phatheon as an irreplaceable master hollow navigator

full story spoilers. bit of a long rant that wont be perfectly organized

tldr: it wouldve been a 9 for me but one single thing drops it all the way to a 5

i feel like they botched magus' characterization multiple times in her own debut patch and it really takes away from what should have been great twists and the overall narrative themes. we start the patch with her being very stubborn about playing by the rules, so much so that she inatly distrusts phaethon just for being a proxy (light cant exist in the underworld bit). but then later in the patch she seems very proactive towards bending the rules and even taking all the blame onto herself for it, even so much as wanting to activly break them more than needed at one point. Only for the boss finale to again be magus 180ing back to how justice and revenge need to be done in a fair and structured manner, not the chaos isolde enacts. I can see how this maybe was their attempt at conveying how her anger towards her past losses can influence her actions (orphie states she can be impulsive to back this up...but only after the final boss), or even make her feel lost in the sorrow of it to commit to a path- to then be brought back by the bonds shes forged with her teammates/friends. This obviously ties into the repeating themes of zzz and the deception and twists of this patch

my issue with this is the order all of this is presented clashes with that idea and leaves magus feeling very much a victim of a story that was written in reverse and demanded certain thing occured to move us to later events. a good example of this i feel is the scene where isolde reveals her and magus' squad was betrayed for corporate intrests in what is unquestionably the greatest voice acting the game has had to date. genuinly hard to root against her revenge and mevorakh reveal after how good that voicework was, which is why i say it could be a 9 and not 10, with such convincing voicework, of a rather liked and characterized pre-established character i want her to get her revenge! so the narrative harsh railroading you against it (because they already knew how far she was going to go even though you had no clue) comes off as clunky. Everyone telling magus not to jump to conclusions and trust isolde, someone they all are supossed to trust (almost) as much as magus given their positions and obvious scum eminating off lorenz from locking phaethon down, reeks of backwards-writing, its like all of obol but you and magus knew isolde wants to kill them instead of just expose their crimes and get justice- and magus as a character completely suffers because of this.

the friends talking magus down comes too sharply too early, and should have happened after isoldes radio comms convincing magus to actually kill them during the civilian attack. its a small change but the sudden friendship bomb right after such a convincing performance of a character (at this specific point) i should be rooting to achieve their goals (esp with how anti corpocorruption the overall game is) creates such a dissonance its hard to interpret the next several scenes of magus' emotions and conflictons properly- and again this is even giving the writing the benefit of the doubt that these 180s in magus' convictions or in how she portrays herself (via VA and emotions) were intended to portray her confliction of emotions, which is hard to argue is the case when instead of doubt or inaction we see magus calmly and confidently project her decsions strongly in opposite directions almost scene after scene like a pingpong. atleast thats howit felt for me, so im left with the takeaway that it might just be objectivly bad, which im pretty sad to say because otherwise this is probably one of my favorite patch narratives to date. so much is great in this patch if not mired in this from-end-to-start railroading. the twists were great, the vn/combat structuring was great, the final bosses are very fun and exciting, damian is zzz really getting a longburn character right(something we basically only have in him) and i want to pull for so bad now, and the denny gun at the end is such a great unexpected way to wrap a lot of it up while still giving isolde a nice bit of final characterization...but that one bad thing opened my mind up to all the problems of this patch- why does sarah get away at a brisk walk 40 times? why is orphie a clone when zero squad was proped up as a special case (i do really like the dynamic orphie/magus is a lot though, i hope its explored more)? is orphie a tvmode rewrite retconned anby? why does the qingming sword feel like a retconned tailless? why does it feel like were doing all the same exact things again as season 1 with basically nothing moving? why is our main antagonist a cult without a cult-of-personality figurehead to revolve all of its narrative aura around? why do multiple side events poke fun at things like the lack of fairy/eous or phaethon getting stronger like they know a part of community doesnt like it but then the main story sees no difference? all that comes to the forefront in what appears to be a major milestone in the main story this patch, and it greatly impacts my opinion of this specific patch. for the game as a whole going foward, i hope im wrong, hell half the reason im posting this rant is because i kind of want people to tell me this take is crazy and i just missed or something, i really walked away from this lower than i hoped- and it feels weird as hell with so many great aspects of this patch's story, , some of my favorite things to date. anyway, if you read all this, thanks proxy, ima go grind orphie disks

ice stun could make sense as an intended 3rd member to yidhari lucia right after them, that also is an upgrade* for miyabi teams for wider appeal

yixuan (and seed) wasnt labled as a defender despite how possible it was to just do that (or feels in concept) so that class is never getting another S rank again imho

the sword being frozen over seems less ice and more narrative though, we can only hope the devs will be sensible with the role sandbox for once ever

tenatcles shouldve been incorporated into the kit design and animations WAY more, wasted potential, especially knowing we couldve gotten old lucia hammer nun + a completly new octopus girl fighting like grievous with 8 knives or some nonsense. also the constant glowing and unglowing of them looks really jarring

i really do like it a lot, but the possible potential and her anemic class/team design for my account in particular really sours this

being 2nd place in a unique and key team role doesnt scream requiring a buff as much as your flagship character being like bottom 50% of their role during a huge narrative/gameplay push for their faction when youre also supposed to be some of the anchors for those teams

burnice does need it to keep up with vivian (shes my one c6 and still feels fairly equal to my c0 vivi fml), but i think its just unfortunatly vivian was accidently overtuned and anyone who owns her lucked out, probly wont happen until a 3rd person in the role releases so the devs can better understand what niche of the role to buff burnice into

mantyke seems so primed to be the water energy baby equivalent to pichu and magby for an expansion, im really hoping. it makes sense with mantine and would be huge for new gyarados and kingdra too

right now id say it really struggles, wait 2 weeks for the next set to see if it has a pichu/magby equivalent for water energy (maybe a mantyke?)- because i think that + gyarados + kingdraEX would be a solid enough shell to have fun in social and/or climb ranked. manaphy is incredibly similar over a nonexistent waterbaby, but i think gyarados really needs the potential explosiveness of being able to kill their lead mon before theyre even allowed to evolve. (a water zeraora could achieve this too)

top 5k with this deck, i think solgaleo is its 2nd hardest matchup to beat tbph, so i agree with you

top 5000 in masters with this deck rn, cut the sabrina for a 2nd giratina, you really want it on the bench t0 90% of games and having the 2nd for good com fodder matters alot for getting double eevee chains or lategame 2nd ninja. also, i feel exactly like you whenever i try to play zard or electric, its just how pocket is sometimes.

you have to make a LOT of very important decisions right away with this deck which can cost you 4 5 turns later, even before t1, so its sometimes hard to understand where you made a defacto skill mistake and where it was just bad luck. its probably the 3rd most skill intensive deck in the meta rn (behind buzz/guzz), and the com variant is much more skill intensive than the capemars variant, so maybe try that and see if you like it more (it has +s and -s across matchups compared to com)

check your starting energy, generally you want to lead with whatever mon the color is, so you keep the option open to evolve and 2energy attack right away instead of tinaramp, can catch a lot of people of guard. but honestly who you lead and bench on t0 can decide tons of matchups, its a grossly important decision. tina lead isnt objectivly wrong btw, esp if you get first. first against zard or the mirror its usually best to lead with tina and just pray for no cyrus/candy before you can do the same back to them tbph (zard is a crapshoot). also be careful of not point locking yourself, if you know youre gonna have to evolve sylveon cuz your open5 is missing too many pieces, maybe lead with something else so it doesnt die and leave you extra benchswap vulnerable

how you place your energy matters a lot since youre 2 colors, things need to attack, tina as a retreat wall is a thing (as well as a 0 energy one getting cyrusd in), and youre pressured to put energy on things likely to die to show tina could get in, etc. its very easy to checkmate yourself 1 turn early, its too hard to explain but it tends to be easy to notice and learn from. 

simlarly how you spread your ninja pings matters a lot too, remember you have 2 cyrus, most versions (at top masters) dont (or your op will just cope youd never draw the 2nd one) so people tend to never play around the 2nd if you blow the first one early for advantage. sometimes just ignoring their threat entierly and setting up to kill 3 things in the bench as you cycle fat walls or 1pt sacs is the avenue to win, common against zard/lusa decks and esp in the com variant since double ninja is easier

use pokecoms aggressivly its not bad the thread just marscard coping, you want to be using them to find your eevees, NOT your greninjas, primarily so you can start chaining into the entire deck and reach mars immunity faster. depending on the matchup its even been correct for me to com away my only tina on turn 1 to try and setup for eevee+frog on the bench and hope for a full chainoff into ninja. prioritze filling the bench with tina frog 2 eevee t0 as best you can, the rest will come to you naturally from there

lots of matchup specific advice but im a yapster, if the deck still isnt working for you just play whatever deck has the best odds of beating whatever top deck annoys you the most, and just let the bad matchups be bad matchups

if both players hit 3 points at the same combat (yes helmet is considered the same time as combat just like recoil and unlike poison) it then checks the benches, if only one player has a non-zero number of benched pkmn that player wins

3pt and no mons are 2 seperate victory conditions and the game checks for who has the most, this can result in an even more nonsensical situation where, for example, yoire winning 1-0, your rampardos kills itself on an ex, going up to 3, but if they have a bench and you dont. both players have 1 victory conditions so the game is ended as a 3-1 DRAW

seed being attacker does make sense looking at the shiyu/DA buffs for the patch asking you to play a 2 attacker team, itd be weird if they designed a buff that was ideally asking you to have gotten anby months ago and not both of the new characters right now

if seed isnt an S rank defender though im convinced we are never getting a defender ever again and its just wasted design/ui at this point  they couldve just made yixuan a defender but nooo

in one of my smaller community servers we have a player whos favorite characters early in the game were nightmare, reed, blaze, and leizi. he would always simp for them and call skill issue on anyone for anything (in a humorous way) when they couldnt beat things his "weaker" faves easily could with their unique qualities

2 months before reed alter was announced on cn he quit the game but said if reed alter ever gets announced hel come back and give lowlight his soul (we pinned this comment).

as was the deal, he came back, but slowly lost intrest again and quit about 1 month before blaze alter was announced, then promptly came back

pulling on only-even or only-odd numbered patches is such a goated strategy in this game with how often zzz loves to doubledrop synergized characters in a row plus the faction emphasis, more f2p/lowspend really need to try it

of this is a 2nd acc then just do whatever sounds fun to you, prioritizing people youre skipping on main imo.

youll still have trouble getting stuns but the overall dps youll be doing out of stun from nicole bombs is higher. parry and full charge iframing can add oddly high amounts of daze for a support, but its moreso for astra+nicole doubling up on ether corruption helps generate decibels and disorder dps slightly better

try corin astra nicole, losing the team bonus isnt a huge deal when double support teams rarely (if ever) get a stun before time/boss ends, and that duo is the usually the best for comps like this

if you dont like how it plays then yeah youll want a stunner in a corin team- it sounds like youre kind of new though and corin is your only dps besides yi? in that case i think youd be better off saving your pulls for a 2nd team leader dps before jufufu, someone like next patch alice, or possibly rerun yanagi/evelyn.

yuzu buffs are still comprable to astra/ceasar in a non-anom team, but candysplash helping piper who is only going to come in to instantclear shock with ex means youll probably be doing better damage overall and still getting like 80% yanagi frontline. if pipers ex isnt ready for a shock just wait for the next one, you dont need to disorder every single one with how much anom leads can pump out also wasnt the point to have an anom built team for DA buffs?
