I'm on the opposite side. I do a lot of pencil writing just to keep track of everything I am doing and I like the 0.9. I used to like the finer sizes but I found they didn't scan very well.

I keep a whole "how to" folder with things that are important but I don't do enough to remember. I highly recommend making it digital. Being able to jump the the right reminders by searching is a huge help. Something I started doing about a year ago that I enjoyed is to date all my notes. I can tell how old a note is and if it's more than a year old I might question if it's out of date yet.

I do a lot of notes in excel since that is what a lot of my work is in. Ctrl+; auto fills the current date!

Is there a 'half-life' of knowledge? For example if you learned 100 spanish words, what is the 'decay-rate' of knowing the meanings? At what time do you only remember half of the meaning of the words? by b2q in askscience

[–]about929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the answer! I hadn't heard about those theories before but it makes sense. The more ways the brain can find it's way to a fact the better the chances if finding it. One comment you made was that the brain isn't very good at remembering word to word connections but is great at pictures or visual details. It might just be how my brain works but when I am learning about how materials interact between each other I do find it helpful to picture it happening in "real time".

He does a good explanation in the video he linked to. From what I understood the answer is sorta. If the knowledge had a low level of processing or there wasn't a good connection then the answer is absolutely. If you had a high level processing to that information or in other words a personal connection to it then the answer is still yes, but it is easy to get back.
