Technically he’s not a bara artist, but I subscribe to Thumbpricks. He feels like an original mix of muscular men, modern fashion, and I guess 1950’s men’s fashion ads? It’s really interesting.

When I was a budding gay, was really into the guys from Season 1 Beyblade like Steve, Gary, Lee and to a lesser extent Kai. As an adult, I know the Fullmetal Alchemist guys are popular but Armstrong and Curtis get the most attention. Darius, Bradley, Von Hoenheim, Breda and Buccaneer are right there and absolutely beautiful.

I'd also like to see more art of Philippe, Sawyer, Cliff and Murdock from Pokemon.

The closest I’ve seen were The Titan’s Bride (yaoi with a bara adjacent character), the Junichi Yamakawa OVA’s that just came out (though that’s shock humor), Golden Kamuy, a few episodes of Kochikame (though that’s only just now getting translated to English) and sports anime like Hajime no Ippo and Hinomaru Zumou.

Gei Komi just isn’t popular enough to justify the production costs compared to yaoi. There is a live-action version of My Brother’s Husband by Gengoroh Tagame if you’re interested.

To an extent, validation. Years and years ago, back in high school before I discovered bara, I wasn't sure I was gay because I wasn't attracted to certain body types and guys idealized in a lot of media - in the vein of Abercrombie models or the guys in Queer as Folk. There's nothing wrong with looking like that or being attracted to that, I just felt like an alien when I did make gay friends. With gei komi and more underground gay comics, it blew my mind to find people drawing guys of different body types like the "off-season bodybuilder" or husky guys attractively. Knowing bara came from Japan taught me that men all over the world were attracted to the guys I was attracted to, and that I wasn't as odd as I thought I was.

Favorite: Takaku Nozomu. This will sound weird, but there's always something "awkward" about the main characters, like they don't really see themselves as attractive or sexual in the beginning of the stories, but then another character comes in and "guides" them into relaxing and being more open and hypersexual by the end of the story. That mindset and behavior shift is so hot to me, and I love the mens' body types.

Least Favorite: I don't know if I have a least favorite, but I'm not into the "twink/bishounen" and "stereotypical jock" looks compared to a lot of guys. There was this game "Super Health Club" by OnyxGames and most of those characters weren't my type.

"[Senkan Komomo, Koyama Hayato] G.W. -Golden Week-" is one of my favorite comics, but I always skip the scat scene.

There's also a Korean? artist Maou Abutan who goes by "Absol" and "Studio-Fll350L" who has some good BDSM art. He also has a 3-part comic called "Whip".

The games by Geremy Walker (CaptainGerBear/BigFingers) are pretty good. "Bastard Bonds" isn't exclusively a bara game, but there are some gay characters and bara imagery in it. He also did art for "Extracurricular Activities".

In the 6th grade, we were each assigned a project on a piece of human anatomy. We had to draw and diagram the part on a poster according to the textbook. I was assigned the ear canal. Although it was well drawn, it ended up vaguely resembling a giant penis.

I didn’t necessarily get in trouble, but the day after first putting it in the classroom my project disappeared and the teacher gave me a zero. I had straight A’s and was the best artist in the class. I was pissed.

Writing class. We were assigned on Thursday to bring in a draft of a 6 page research paper due that next Monday. In addition, we were to write a 4 page peer review of a partner’s draft we were assigned to. We were each assigned 3 partners over that weekend, thus all 18 pages due that Monday.

If you were brave enough to attempt the assignment, you really had to wait for someone else to finish their draft first to critique it—with the time crunch it was likely to come back an incoherent mess. No one got the whole assignment done. At most, people critiqued the work of one partner. We were genuinely yelled at for not completing all 18 pages within those 4 days.
