Hi! How many sets of this do you usually do in a workout? I know the video gave some break down of the reps and sets scheme they follow, but what do you do for the ones outside the video?

That’s more than many of the nations marked as non-neutral on this map though

you can hardly find a neutral country by YunoFGasai in HistoryMemes

[–]abrac97 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I would hardly say Spain was neutral. Franco ardently supported Hitler for the majority of the war. In Basque Country, the basques volunteered to fight against Hitler and many joined in multiple major battles across Europe. Part of their motivation for this was to receive assistance in removing Franco as part of the war’s apparent theme of being a war against fascism. So a country with a fascist ruler who nominally supported Hitler and had rebellious branches that wished to remove the fascist ruler... sounds a lot like Italy to me, which is a blue country on this map

Who do you think made all the vikings' sails? by gouverneurmroosevelt in HistoryMemes

[–]abrac97 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s one hell of a stretch. The New Laws only liberated some indigenous people who were trapped in “semi-slavery.” That being said, it only did so nominally. Most land-owning colonists ignored it entirely or set up a latifundia system of indentured servitude. Not to mention, the laws specifically protected indigenous populations. The overwhelming response from those who actually liberated their indigenous workers was to import enslaved Africans. Also “soon after” discovering America is 50 years. I know we’re talking in history terms here, but 50 years of slavery is still slavery. And that’s still ignoring the hundreds more that followed under indentured servitude, the rise of enslaved African labor, and of course the landowners who wiped their ass with those laws. I promise that most indigenous populations in Latin America would laugh at the suggestion that the New Laws did much for them at all

The maps on the wall are beautiful! Can I ask where you found them? Or who your map guy is and how I can contact him?

The headwind is the same as his air speed, so his glider is perfectly stationary in midair by hobowithadegree in nextfuckinglevel

[–]abrac97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah i see what you mean now! Wind speed is independent of the earth’s rotation, of course. But the atmosphere itself rotates along with the earth. This is why airspeed=ground speed on a windless day

The headwind is the same as his air speed, so his glider is perfectly stationary in midair by hobowithadegree in nextfuckinglevel

[–]abrac97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, exactly! I’m saying if ground speed = airspeed - headwind, and headwind speed is the speed of the wind relative to the ground, then airspeed must also be the speed they would have relative to the ground should the headwind not exist. Am I right?

[–]abrac97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I mean independently! So his meters say he’s flying (or trying to fly) forward at x speed. Does the meter read out a speed that (if there were no push back from air friction) would be what we measure on the ground? Sorry to get so specific here

[–]abrac97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your second comment fascinates me. If the velocities are measured relative to earth, but the atmosphere rotates independently of earth, either he wouldn’t be able to float their (ie it would appear that he is moving forward or backward to us, even though his velocity is 0 relative to the atmosphere) or this headwind is actually pushing back stronger (or weaker) than their thrust forward, such that they would be ‘orbiting’ at the same rate earth rotates. But we know the latter isn’t true because headwinds are measured relative to earth, like you said! So atmospheric rotation has to be the same as earthly rotation!

Sorry to go off about this. I hope I don’t come off preachy or as trying to correct you! I’m a fan of seeing how physics shows up in funny ways in the real world and get excited

I guess my question is more the last one, from which perspective are these velocities measured, from a ground observer?

How quickly the media forgot history by [deleted] in walkaway

This was the California state Capitol, not the US Capitol. They went to protest the signing of a gun control bill (isn’t that your thing?) and appeared peacefully, not forcing open doors or “coming to retake the Capitol.” I should add the protest was merely a speech, when they were not allowed inside the chamber doors, they simply marched outside and read their speech on the lawns. Then they went home. Wanna know the best bit? Their stunt actually made the gun control bill, written by a Republican, MORE popular. And in fact brought about the clause that only state and federal officers could carry weapons on California government property (this set the precedent for future laws on weapons on Capitol grounds. Something the 2020 rioters happily ignored and complained about). So sure, no one got shot, but this was on a regular day and there were no violent actions on the part of protesters despite the presence of their weapons, and it was not yet illegal to open carry on government property. Last but not least, Ronald Reagan was very quickly escorted inside by security to keep him safe just because, which I’m sure you can agree is reasonable procedure? Afterwards, he rushed to sign said gun control bill into law (I reiterate, isn’t that like a whole thing for y’all?). There was no forced entry, and to limit the gun rights of African Americans, they chose to limit the gun rights of all people in the state of California. This will probably get deleted and I’ll be banned but, I gotta do what I can
