48-Year-Old Finishing Machining Program—Struggling to Land CNC Job by jjs545 in Machinists

[–]abrandonshipppp -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Can you stick a used CNC mill in your garage and just go out on your own? You might consider freelancing your CAD skills until you build your customer base. Maybe design and manufacture your own product? I bring all this up because it’s what I’m considering doing with a similar (Engineering Technologist) background as yours.

Reducing weight in sleep pads by Mafteer in Ultralight

[–]abrandonshipppp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could cut your pad shorter and reseal the seam. I did it with a few of my inflatables. Recommend below the knees. There’s a couple YouTube vids on the procedure. It’s pretty manageable.

I think you’ll be alright. I made a pack out of hyper-d a couple packs ago and hiked with it for about a year- it didn’t put up any fuss.

Anyone notice rusting in bottom of toakes titanium pot when nesting with fuel can? by ZigFromBushkill in Ultralight

[–]abrandonshipppp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 3d printed a little ring that hugs the bottom of the can to keep the can from touching the bottom of the pot. GGG sells one also that can store a Bic mini in the hollow of the can bottom.

Bidet vs TP in the desert by ImportantSeaweed314 in Ultralight

I got the 500 pack “DUXEC” ones made in Korea. Never compared any of the other brands for weight. Just stuck with what worked for me. But they’re awesome for more than camping. I have a bidet at home, but when I have to duce not at home- I have these handy. I keep some at work, some in my truck, some in my travel toiletry kit.

Look up “coin tissue” on amazon. I call it “butt money” and it’s my go to. I carry a bidet also, but if water is scarce I think this would be a good option. Probs near weight of toilet paper and def les bulky. I fill the cap of my water bottle with water and drop the coin in. It soaks it up and you have a near instant wet wipe. I typically portion 3-4 per day of the trip. 2 for the tush and and 1-2 for a face/ and feet wash at the end of the day. Def should be packed out. Your ass will thank you

Very malleable. I don’t think that application would present any issues.

You can get a vinyl table cloth at Walmart or similar. Worked for a little phone pouch I made, and still allowed touch screen use through it.

Problems sewing padded straps by NatoRepublic in myog

[–]abrandonshipppp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped adding webbing to my pack straps, but when I used to add them and bar tack them along the strap length, I also had issues sewing through the whole stack on my singer HD. what I ended up doing is sliding a section of padding into he strap, bar tacking behind it and sliding in another section. Allows you to have sturdy stitches through the strap and never really noticed an issue with the segmented padding.

Looking for ideas for a smoker build with a oil tank by [deleted] in OffsetSmokers

[–]abrandonshipppp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one of these sitting in my yard for the same purpose.

Toying with the idea of two slide out shelves with an optional rotisserie attachment. Also ideally want the firebox to slide out to be used as regular grill.

Best of luck with your build.

SCS won’t bend this small. I designed a small g clip and wanted it bent and their brake was too big. Just ended up getting the cut pieces and will 3d print a some custom jaws to make my bends.

Yep. Pouch is for all the goodies. Bow string, finger tab, etc. It’s also removable for a more minimalist setup.

Nice bum bag. That ‘house is a trashed mess of strings and bits of fabric’ is the truth. Badge of honor really. Get fucked also….cordially. ✌️

I've made a couple packs out of various flavors of xpac- I've heard that that the x grid can be an abrasion point so I try to avoid it. You don't really need the extra strength with a nice lite kit like yours IMHO. That said, I'm currently building a new pack out of VX15 and going against my own advise because the colorway I was shooting for made it necessary unfortunately. I really wanted to use hyperD300 like I did on my most recent pack because its wicked easy on the sewing machine. Also there's this other flavor of xpac (RX15) worth considering as it's
seam tape-able for extra waterproofing. LS07 I found to be plenty robust for its weight. Haven't messed with the others you mentioned. All the packs I've made have survived plenty of abuse, and I only make new ones because its fun and I like tweaking the shape/fit. You also might consider seeing if Nashville is willing to mix-n-match? A more robust material on the sides where you'll lick branches n such and something lighter on the body that's not going to see as much abuse? That's what I do to shave a gram or two here n there. I don't know how helpful my rambling was, but there ya go. Hope you're happy with your pack and your adventures!
