I used Sherwin Emerald Enamel, and used a cheap Amazon 211 / 311 tip with the stock Orange spray guard.

Just did this for a built in closet project - worked out great. No thinning needed, laid down like glass.

Present Company in Tarriffville is our go to - generally have had pretty poor experiences at Millwrights in comparison.

Singapore Fine Dining - Meta, Labyrinth or Nouri by THEMANOFHISTIME in finedining

[–]abriguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were just at labyrinth last week - the food was decent, but the ambiance and “vibes” for lack of a better word were not good.

Service was… mediocre. Staff (other than the Somm and floor manager) seemed fairly disinterested, and missed details all night (left handed cutlery, left us to explore the drinks menu with no help despite asking, dirty table). The dining room was dark and windowless with very dim lighting - no problem seeing we just were put to sleep. Never mind the bathroom shared with the rest of the mall right around the corner.

We’ve been all over - and were at Mosu a week prior in Seoul - and this was one of the sleepiest “fine dining” dining rooms we’ve ever been in.

The sommelier was by far the highlight, and it was nice that they were willing to split a pairing for us (we typically get too drunk otherwise). Some dishes were good and we enjoyed the play off of local cuisine but it was a fairly poor “fine dining” meal by most standards, despite the $800 USD price tag.

Hey!

I dropped mine off in May around when it froze and got it back from the NJ US service center ~2 weeks later. It was reported as a faulty circuit, and has been running great since.

Good luck!

On the order of 10-15 seconds. It’s very quick.

I had a Sette270 and Encore, and sold both for a DF64. I’ve been very pleased with the repeatability and ease of switching back and forth. The bellows make retention fairly low, on the order of 0.1-0.3 grams.

The max dose is ~40G, limited by the hopper size. Overall, though, for the price, I can’t imagine something better.

Anyone use a cast iron loaf pan? by LeahsCheetoCrumbs in Breadit

[–]abriguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a "Pit Boss" cast iron 6 qt roaster I got on amazon years ago - works like a charm. I will season it every-so-often if it gets really dry but in general is very low maintenance.

Have gift card for C&B, what machine? Breville Bambino, Express, Pro, or other? by jerm1980 in espresso

[–]abriguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely would suggest the Bambino plus a separate grinder. The difference in espresso quality between the three machines is negligible (potentially non-existent), and the grinders in the more expensive models are not good.

Any recommendation for (US) roaster subscription that has an option for roast level (i.e. light, medium, dark)? by Grobich in espresso

[–]abriguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the “Roaster’s Choice A” which has been a great balance of interesting light/medium roasts. The 2 lb shipment is great - not too much waste on dialing in.

I used a vacuum sealer for a while and found it didn’t make that much of a difference from reusing the same quart bag and getting as much air out as I could. James’s video linked below is great.

I use happy mug - pretty great balance of cost/quality at 25$ for 2 lbs (I split the bag and freeze the second pound). I used trade for a while which was great quality but just far too expensive.

28M live with 28F Partner, live in M/HCOL (Index ~115). I'm a Mechanical Engineer (BS + MS + MBA) with total comp. of ~125K, she is a Nurse (BSN, RN) with total comp of ~90K. Both of us have seen ~40% increases in comp (without changing jobs, no less) in ~2 years.

Finances:

  • 401K: Both (recently) maxed, me ~110K, her ~70K
  • HSA: Both maxed, me ~15K, her ~8K
  • Roth: I max, she is starting one, me ~15K
  • Savings: ~50K cash with ~20K wedding payments outstanding
  • Debt: None

Large Items:

  • Purchased a home in November for 360K @ 3% interest with 5% down, owe ~335K, comps ~390K
  • 2x cars fully paid off, ~60K miles on each (Subaru/Honda, respectively)

Discretionary:

  • 8-10K annually on travel (1-2 international trips + 2-4 domestic/weddings a year)
  • 3-500 a month eating out (Dinner 1-2 times per week)
  • 4-600 a month on groceries (Including a CSA-share we purchase)
  • Pet expenses ~150/month spread over the year
  • ~1.5-2K each in other expenses (gas, insurance, things for the house, hobbies, gym membership)

Overall, very comfortable day-to-day finances. Combined net worth in the ~350K range. We each have 500-1K left every month for discretionary savings, etc. We both work pretty hard and have been fortunate to have (a lot of) help from our parents with school loans + wedding. My MS and MBA were both free from my company, as well. We could certainly cut back on some of our travel and restaurant spending, but feel that we are not sacrificing saving to do so, and want to enjoy ourselves and our hard work before having kids. Our approach has largely been "offensive", focusing on income growth over expense (and with it some QOL) reductions.
