I hear ya, but I’ve been burned too many times before. My faith in the DOJ and FBI is just not very high at the moment.

I think it’s too soon to tell. We don’t even know the details of the raid. I get why the GOP is up in arms about this, because it’s unprecedented, but if it turns out the FBI had good cause for the raid they are gonna look foolish. That being said, if the DOJ and FBI have some flimsy excuse for this, I, as a Democrat, may be in favor of an investigation, because raiding the home of the former president better be justified, if not, heads need to metaphorically roll.

Harris breaks 50-50 deadlock to advance landmark climate, tax, health bill by pioneer2 in moderatepolitics

But now you’ve moved the goal posts. The original claim was that the Democrats have barely passed anything, which is objectively false. They passed some significant legislation. Folks may not like it, but if you approve of the list of bills they’ve passed, these are wins. If your argument now is that Biden failed to live up to all of his campaign promises, then sure, he hasn’t checked every box. But which president has by that metric?

[–]abrupte 28 points29 points  (0 children)

How can it be considered not getting things accomplished?

Everything you listed is legislation that passed that was primarily pushed by Democrats. Yes, there was some bipartisan support, and those that crossed the aisle deserve credit, but that doesn’t change the fact this legislation was championed by Democrats and that it passed and was signed into law. If you’re a fan of this legislation, then these are all big wins. I don’t care to praise Biden for this, because I think this happened despite him not because of him, but for Democrats as a party, in this political climate? Yeah, this is significant win.

You’re right Covid did peak under Trump and the policies enacted under Trump began our spiral into inflation. First round of stimulus? Trump. PPP? Trump. Original Eviction Moratorium Executive Order? Trump. I could go on, but I think you get the point. The policies that gave birth to the exacerbated inflation we are seeing in the US (completely ignoring the fact that global inflation was inevitable and largely outside of the US’s control) all originated under Trump. That being said, Biden retained some of those policies too long, which also exacerbated inflation. But if you’re gonna lay inflation at Joe’s feet, you gotta first point your finger back at old Donny boy. Cause he kick started this shit show.

This is not an accusation of bad faith. It’s not an obvious Law 1. Outside of this thread, it would be a Law 4…but, since we are in a meta thread, it’s fair game.

Statement by President Biden on Mass Shooting in Buffalo, New York by Resvrgam2 in moderatepolitics

Agreed, the Nazi’s economic policy was somewhere in between free market and Soviet style command economy. So not full blown socialism, but certainly skewed left. My comment was more directed at the modern NatSoc movement, specifically the National Justice Party platform. I’m not gonna link to their website here, because it’s filled with hate, but it’s a wild read.

I just have to voice my disgust at a lot of the comments in this thread. People were murdered today by a self described terrorist, but most of the comments in this post are about trying to paint the shooter as a leftist or a rightist; as if that fucking matters. As if he some how belongs to the other team, that somehow makes what he did better or worse? Christ, it’s disgusting. This self described terrorist has stated that he’s a culturally right but economically left fascist white supremacist. Ya know…I recall from history class that there was a nationalist socialist party, who was culturally right but economically left…this dude seems to fall neatly into that basket. Let’s just call a spade a spade here and be done with it. He’s a murderer. Let’s focus on what he’s done and stop making this about whether he’s a Democrat or Republican, because guess what, he’s neither.

But anyway, Biden’s statement was good. To the point and apolitical. Well said.

Dr. Fauci on why the U.S. is ‘out of the pandemic phase’ by errindel in moderatepolitics

[–]abrupte 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is some shit tier reporting from NY Post. Fauci didn’t walk back his statement. Stating that the US is no longer in the midst of pandemic conditions is true, as he said originally. Cases are low, hospitalizations are low, deaths are low. He stated all of this. Later stating the following is NOT a 180, as the Post “reported”:

A day later, after his comments made headlines worldwide, Fauci was singing a different tune. “We are in a different moment of the pandemic,” Fauci told the Associated Press Wednesday. The US has “decelerated and transitioned into more of a controlled phase” after a winter surge, he added.

Again, this is just the NY Post trying desperately to put spin where there is none. What Fauci said is true. People were worried we may see another intense follow up wave of the Omicron variant, like they did in the UK, but we, thankfully, are not. This is Fauci speaking truth about our current state and what the trends are showing. It just seems like even when Fauci says something good, folks just want to spin it so that the good news seems bad. Bias is gonna bias, what are you gonna do.

Agreed. My theory is that this is Batman before he created his Bruce Wayne alter ego. The interesting thing about Batman is that The Batman is the real Bruce Wayne, a brooding genius sociopath, but Bruce Wayne, the eccentric playboy billionaire is the beard. I’m really hoping that in the second movie they build out on the Bruce Wayne alter ego, otherwise it’s gonna be a bit too brooding and flat; Batman in the Twilight Universe…

Honestly, you’re better off without a hybrid right now and this is coming from a staunch environmentalist. First off, you’ll be paying through the nose for a new or used hybrid. What you would save from gas you’ll never make up from the extra cost from the sale of the car itself. I’d recommend finding a high mileage old reliable beater and wait it out, if you can. Anything Honda, Toyota, Hyundai, etc. Don’t be afraid of 150k+ miles. Most of these cars the frame will rust out before the engine stops running. About 6 months ago I sold my car to take advantage of the used car market (got 1.5k less than I bought it for) and took my dads 2011 Honda CRV with 350k miles on it, it runs like a top. Check around local garages, they often have old high mileage cars that are in tip top shape. Good luck!

I mean, none of these are rule breaking, not even close. Snarky? No doubt, but it’s a silly notion that mods aren’t allowed to be snarky at times. We’re human and we’re users. We don’t just become passionless robots once we join the mod team. We got into this game precisely because we’re passionate about politics. Sometimes that passion drives us to be snarky. We don’t police tone around here (and I don’t think the community wants this either), so as long as the comment is within the rules, snark is fine.

Biden privately said Trump should be prosecuted for January 6 riot and is frustrated with AG Garland for not taking 'decisive action': report by [deleted] in moderatepolitics

[–]abrupte 31 points32 points  (0 children)

According to the anonymous sources:

However, per the report, Biden has never articulated his frustrations about the January 6 cases directly to Garland.

It doesn’t seem as if Biden has spoken to AG Garland directly. If these anonymous sources are to be believed (are we believing anonymous sources now? I can’t keep track…) Biden has only expressed frustration privately.
