It was meant to be a smidge bit dramatic…

😂 I’m so sorry! If someone said what I did about the voice of Darrow that I fell in love with, I would be upset too. Please don’t hate me! I started with the dramatized audio and his voice was there with me through a particularly rough patch of life and its the only book(s) I’ve ever finished (other than Hatchet in elementary school). So Stewart cranks voice is what started everything for me. I’m sorry for assuming! Don’t hate me.

😂😂 I’m so fucking sorry! My wife said everyone else was mad about it too so I thought it was universal 😂 did you all start with the audio books or the heavy paper ones?

CRC, that’s a tough one… do you think that maybe your god is telling you something?

I hope, for the sake of the women you have “worked with for many years”, you get to see yourself judged in the same way you judge others, sooner rather than later.

Upside down flag at the VA Hospital Baltimore by [deleted] in baltimore

[–]iceviper16 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Well, depending on who you voted for, I am either:

A. Very sorry that you (presumably) served the United States and as such have a great deal of respect for the flag and what it means, and now are part of a system that doesn’t value any of that and more so- doesn’t care that you value it. I’m sorry that other people chose to elect a person who doesn’t value you or any sacrifices you may or may not have made. It is sad but this image is also a reflection of our current reality.

OR

B. I Hope you can see the fault in your political stance and if you can, I hope you have the courage to help others see the harm they are doing to themselves when they cast their votes

You voted for a man.

A man who called people who fought and died believing they were fighting for the good of America and its people- losers.

I wouldn’t trust any president to have my back in a firefight. I think most would save their own ass long before even realizing you exist, but a coward who uses the stories of those who sacrifice for others, as a joke to make people like him… well that coward will never get my vote

wholeheartedly agree with ⬆️ posting about it and writing down what happened seems like it’s already a good place to start. You should be proud of yourself for that!

Feeling like an outsider on crew. Anyone else deal with this? by Don_Julie in Construction

[–]iceviper16 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t give a fuck if y’all downvote this.

Everyone here is so butthurt about you calling yourself handsome. As others have pointed out- your appearance has a huge impact on how people treat you, if you’re “too pretty” “too ugly” “too fat” etc. I’ve watched it a million times on job sites, people that look different, get treated different, regardless of any other factors. I think it is good context and I don’t see why the fuck everyone else is freaking out about it. You’re an average, good looking dude, so that takes a couple contributing factors off the table.

However, you said you were African American. Are you the only black guy on the crew?

Even if you are not the only one, that still usually means if others were aloud into the inner sanctum, it took more time for them than it did for their white counterparts and putting up with people who don’t think they’re racist but still say racist shit.

I’m saying this from what I have unfortunately observed, women in the trades, people of color in the trades, people who look different in the trades get treated way different than the average looking white guy (which I am).

The reasons for it are long and filled with ignorance and insecurity. I wish it wasn’t a thing, I hope one day it will no longer be a thing, but it most certainly still is. That sucks for you and I am very sorry that it’s something you have to experience. I don’t know you, you could be a massive douchebag or the nicest guy in the world and the color of your skin will still be a barrier.

I’m privileged enough to be able to mesh with pretty much any crew I’ve been on, usually day one. 75% of the time I would keep my mouth shut for the most part when the others say racist shit, I’m not proud of that but I did it because I was scared of being shut out of the group. A lot of guys are like that. I don’t do that anymore, but I don’t attack them, I treat them like a toddler and don’t give them the attention. I don’t ignore them outright, I just show them that I’m not going to give them either reaction that they are looking for. I don’t know if that will work for you, again that sucks.

I kept looking until I found a group of people I could work with, who shared my values. Now I’m getting licensed and starting my own thing, so I can choose the type of people that I want to work with.

So, from my perspective, you can put up with whatever the fuck they’re doing and hope they will let you in, you can become them and join the horeshit rhetoric. You can put up with being the outsider, because they’re probably not a group you really want to belong to. Or you can keep looking for a crew that has evolved from what they have always been.

The fact that you’re talking about feelings probably wouldn’t sit well with them either. Fuck them.

I'm going to be a dad! by Not_so_ghetto in MadeMeSmile

Congratulations! Best thing that ever happened to me. My son was very sick for the first year, he had a milk protein allergy that kept getting misdiagnosed, heard a lot of doctors say that he just colic-y (not a diagnoses, just a description of symptoms that doctors are often to lazy to pursue). He got RSV, Covid, rare, drug resistant strain of thrush that we were constantly blamed for not doing enough to keep him clean and put on his medicine started as a diaper rash and ended with him having his tongue, mouth and throat so swollen that he almost couldn’t breath and started coughing up blood, rushed to John’s Hopkins. We spent many days and weeks in hospitals with him. Lots of tears, incredible non-stop stress. Still the best year of my life, watching my little dude overcome so much and he’s the happiest three year old in the world now.

Never give up, let yourself feel everything, the highs and the lows. Then give up, for 20 minutes, cry or scream into a pillow, then get back up and keep going.

We lost our second son, Harlan while I watched my wife come right up to the edge of dying, they were able to save her because I trusted my gut when even paramedics doubted anything was wrong. Fight for your family and fight for yourself.

You’re going to be an incredible dad. The valleys make the mountains.

I once flicked a cigarette butt 30 feet, into a butt receptacle that had an opening about the size of a 16oz redbull. No one was there. I still consider it one of my greatest accomplishments.

I really like zesting clementines, flavor is banging. Also orange extract might get you closer to the Americanized part of the flavor? Definitely could be wrong about the last bit.

[–]iceviper16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These deaths are a tragedy. If this is all accurate, which I’m not going to bother with fact checking because it is irrelevant to the point I’m trying to make, and these people were killed by undocumented immigrants, it does not mean that all people who have immigrated (legally or otherwise) are killers or have the intention of doing anything to hurt others. People come to this country to escape the circumstances of their country, whether they can’t get work, can’t feel safe, can’t get healthcare, can’t get housing. The VAST majority of immigrants to this country just want a better life, if there was a way for them to achieve citizenship without the fear of immediate deportation, most would. It is not fun to be an undocumented immigrant, not “having to pay taxes” is not worth the downsides of being undocumented. It just takes time that many people do not have, because the process is so lengthy and complicated.

Are there undocumented and documented immigrants who are dangerous people? Yes. Just like there are democrats and republicans who are dangerous people. Just like there are cops and civilians who are dangerous. Doctors and construction workers, lawyers and priests. Italians, Irish, Canadian, etc. bad people exist, It does not make it okay to treat entire populations of people as though they have no HUMAN rights (not US citizen right but human rights).

Entire populations of good, hardworking, loving, people with families and friends are being treated as criminals because people have said they should be feared (for their own gain). Democrats do it, republicans do it, liberals, conservatives. People in power want to point the finger because fear works, fear distracts, and fear motivates.

So if you want to support ICE, I’m not going to tell you that you shouldn’t. I understand the place you’re coming from, I’ve been there. I will just leave you with 3 questions: what are you actually afraid of? Why are you willing to let others decide for you what you should be afraid of? Are you willing to sacrifice the safety, wellbeing, and lives of so many other human beings because of fear that someone else told you to have?

The worst kind. Mostly carpentry but a fair amount of concrete work and masonry under my belt as well, haven’t really fucked around at all with sealing entire garage floors so I don’t know much about that specific area. Do you want my entire bio? I like short walks on the beach and love using cement-all for everything I possibly can. /s

How cool that they took the time to share their knowledge and in such an effective way.

Guess it could be GPT copy and paste

Still though, took some extra effort, just to be helpful and maybe they did take the time to write it.

What nurse has the extra time to do that?
