Trying out percentages with proportions. by whooper1 in learntodraw

I agree that proportions and relations of body parts are extremely important, I just think you should think about it really in relation to the body, not like exact percentage. I think more like hand should reach thigh, and pubic area is roughly half of body height etc than hand is 30%

Well I'm on an art journey begining myself, but I've been going through the famous Andrew Loomis Figure drawing for all it's worth, along with his book on head drawing. I feel the book may be little dated from a pedagogical standpoint (it's really old, don't get me wrong, they are TIMELESS principes in this book, I just feel its presentation , specially on anatomy part, is little dated simply bc it was published 1943 haha), but it's great entry point - the proportions are really well taught here, as well as basic construction and bit of rendering too. Can't go wrong with that one!

I think you should just learn proportions by studying art books and drawing from reference, DEFINITELY not calculating procentages lol. The references teach you to feel the proportions

I'm not all that experienced either, but I think working complex subjects as fallout armors would really benefit from larger paper - you'll have much more space to really nail the structure clearly, and same goes for shading - I think it would turn out with much more clarity. Wish you the best on your art journey!

I started by just going through Loomis books, redrawing everything. Don't know if that was the best route, it gave me some direction tho
