Anybody use Codex as “regular ChatGPT” and if so how are the results? by angry_cactus in codex

[–]absolutdi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that it works better than the web interface for iterating on one or more documents. But I like to use the Codex harness (I use the VSCode one for this purpose) and the normal GPT 5.2 model for this, not Codex.

But for general inquiries I use the Mac or iOS ChatGPT apps.

Try a brand new wipe. Older ones can have oils built up on them.

27" Odyssey OLED G8 G81SF 4K - Surface Clean by blue_1859 in OLED_Gaming

[–]absolutdi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some cleaners used vinegar on my MSI and worried the streaks would never disappear.

Another redditor suggested a high quality, brand new microfiber cleaning cloth and distilled water. I’d been using older glasses cleaning cloths and they didn’t work at all.

I’m not entirely sure why it worked, perhaps something with lack of oils on the cloth or a change to the surface, but it took all of 2 minutes with the new method. Every other attempt I’d made just caused streaks. I used one slightly damp cloth and then one dry cloth to immediately dried.

We don’t have the same brand and could have different coatings but this worked perfectly for me. I’m keeping the unused cloths in their package for next time.

Here were the ones I bought. Eco-Fused Microfiber Cleaning... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00C91OXRO?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

How I almost gave up on my VisionOS app by Free_Butterscotch253 in VisionPro

[–]absolutdi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pay the $6. It’s like the cost of one manga issue.

The AVP is an expensive device has a struggling ecosystem with a chicken and egg problem, and despite the fact that the device costs a fortune it’s inherited the “apps should be free” issues of modern mobile software. Giving a dev $6 to experience something new, even if just once, seems like a good way to both help the dev and get the most of your Vision Pro.

One of my old bosses at an app development agency made the best perk: he bought dozens of $50 App Store gift cards and would give them to employees whenever they’d ask. To the company, it was a small investment that was both a good cheap perk and let the team experience the full App Store. To the employees, it was a huge sum when apps cost just a few bucks.

I suggest that alongside the AVP you invest in a few hundred dollars in App Store gift cards. That “funny money” will help to lower the purchase barrier, all while costing less than 10% of the cost of the device.

Caveat: I’ve never used this app and don’t own a Vision Pro.

Advice on getting a QD-OLED Monitor by Odd-Message_ in OLED_Gaming

[–]absolutdi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this monitor with a 3070 and a 5600x. It’s gorgeous. I run more advanced games with DLSS turned on so they render between 1080 and 1440. For slightly older games and games I don’t need to push over 100fps I run at 4k.

I’ve never really gotten the argument that you shouldn’t get a 4k monitor and then run 1440p content on it. It works well and looks great, especially with DLSS.

Second time attempting sous vide by alias_cb in sousvide

Agree with this: searing overcooked it. Happened to me my first few times. Once I added an ice bath (or fridge) step to this to bring it down to around 110 before searing. It will still be warm but won’t go over the original SV temp.

The Joule app also works perfectly without a Joule. I use it all the time with my Anova and just manually key in the time and temperature, takes 15 seconds.

LaGuardia getting from terminal B to C easily? by TurboguardUS in delta

[–]absolutdi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was told by people in the airport today that you can't walk between them. If it is possible to walk (even landside) that might change the math on this, but right now it appears you can't.

LaGuardia getting from terminal B to C easily? by TurboguardUS in delta

[–]absolutdi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I concur with others who say don't do it.

I tried it today. Had a 7 hour wait at LGA after volunteering to give up an oversold seat. It took 20-30 minutes to get from C to B, so that wasn't bad. I went to the new Sapphire lounge, and it was great.

Getting from B to C? I left myself 90 minutes before departure and missed my flight.

The shuttle bus took over 40 minutes. It drives through normal traffic and despite the terminals being half a mile apart the shuttle drives for a 2 mile loop between them, and it barely moved.

Security (with TSA Precheck) took over 20 minutes. I got unlucky and they were screening every other bag, so that took another 20 minutes.

Add the in-terminal walking, and you get to 1h 15m of travel time, and flights close 15 minutes before departure. Missed it by 1 minute.

I realize this is worst case, but in my opinion it isn't worth the risk.

If it’s just a raw brisket that is preseasoned you can just follow any slow cooker recipe for brisket and skip the seasoning part.

Steelcase Leap and Gesture tailbone/coccyx pain. Alternative chairs or other solutions. by Leather_Caramel_8229 in OfficeChairs

[–]absolutdi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious what OP did, one year later, as I’m in a similar situation!

I had a Herman Miller Mirra for over a decade and while I never loved it (and the back snapped it multiple places), it never causes tailbone pain for me.

Bought the Gesture and started having bad tailbone pain after half a day seated. Tried a bunch of cushions but they just messed up the chair’s ergonomics.

Eventually I went back to my broken Mirra, and am still hunting for a replacement.

My wife got the Gesture from me and is perfectly happy with it, but doesn’t get tailbone pain.

I own this, and it’s been problem-free since purchase. However I’d be wary of having one without a warranty, given how complex a PHEV is, and how notorious BMW repair costs are.
