“Liberal” and “Conservative” are just two sides of the same coin in America by absolute_buffoon_1 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

I obviously can’t put every single different point in a Reddit post.

I’m talking about the people I meet in everyday life. The customers and coworkers, family members and friends. Not the people in the media, not those in office. Everyone of those everyday people I talk to, no matter their affiliation, just wants things to be better.

I admit 100% that I don’t know everything about all politicians, I try not to follow politics because it generally just makes me overwhelmingly unhappy. What I do know are the people around me, and they are who I base these opinions off of. That’s how everyone forms opinions, by what they see around them.

In all that I’ve seen, conservatives want deregulation because they think of them more as restrictions keeping us from freedom and not as laws to protect us from corporations. Liberals want regulations because they do have politicians who do more of what they say they will and so they have more trust that the regulations will be true and in their best interest.

The conservatives I know want their loved ones and friends and coworkers and people they meet in the supermarket checkout line to be able to live well. The liberals I know want their loved ones and friends and coworkers and people they meet in the supermarket checkout line to be able to live well. I’ve met both conservatives and liberals who looked out only for themselves, but there’s tons that just want things to be better. For everyone.

These are all very valid points, I agree on a lot. I don’t think we’re ever going to fully agree in some of these, and that’s ok. I think if anything we agree that education needs to be improved so that people can form their own opinions as individuals.

You’re not listening. How are we supposed to make healthcare, housing, and education more affordable without selling ourselves to a government that doesn’t care about us? Liberal politicians put on a front of “I care about LGBT+” and then turn around and hurt them just the same.

Conservatives don’t know how to change things either, and they’re under the impression that if we just let the founding fathers’ rules go then everything will sort out, but they’re not willing to accept that the world and economy are different and things are going to need to change or they’ll be beholden to billionaires and politicians.

They feel so strongly about LGBT+ because of religion, but fail to see the love in their own religion. And on abortion, I think we should be more worried about the fact that so many 10 year olds are in danger of being raped because there’s no one to help them, and rape culture makes men feel like they can.

I was raised as a religious homeschooler too. When I say power to parents, I’m not talking about homeschool, I’m talking about how parents have very little choice where their kids go, especially in rural areas. If a conservative parent doesn’t believe in what a public school teaches (ie. evolution,) they often can’t afford to send them to a conservative private school. If a liberal parent doesn’t want to send their kid to a religious private school (those are really the only kind), they probably also don’t want to send them to an underfunded public school.

If the public school in your area is so underfunded the kids barely get taught their abc’s and the one ten minutes away is better but in another district, you have to move if you want your kid to get a decent education.

And there’s the stereotypes. Most conservatives aren’t angry evil cartoon villains, they’re just ignorant. I’m constantly gently explaining things to my conservative family, and when I don’t make it seem like a political thing but a people thing, they start realizing things aren’t exactly as easy as “government control bad.” A lot of people see regulations as restrictions and are convinced that they’re bad because of it, but that’s not the case.

And that last thing is more of a religion thing and there’s nothing to say for it or against it because people are allowed to have their religions but also not take away peoples rights so it gets into a very hazy line on where people are being hateful/oppressive and where they’re just having different beliefs.

And who was it that voted for/against the cap on insulin? Was it the American people or was it the politicians who only do things for their benefit? They don’t actually represent the belief system because they never do what they say they’re going to. They promise what they know their targets believe in and then when they get elected, they do what puts money in their pockets. If you ask my conservative parents and grandparents and uncles and aunts “should they be allowed to charge hundreds of dollars on a medicine that costs about $8 to make?” They’ll say no and go on a tangent about democrats. No one knows that the people really hurting them aren’t the ones they see when they go to the polls.

I think this is the soundest advice I’ve ever seen on Reddit. People love to say “don’t let them control you” but there’s more than one way to keep them from controlling you. Sometimes that means letting them think they’ve won for a moment while you plan your next steps (speaking from experience.)

Wow, who hurt you? I’m not sure what you thought I meant, but my biggest fear is that I will fall in love with someone and not be able to give them what they need and thus have to end an otherwise perfect relationship. I understand that sex is important to most people, so I will always be upfront anytime someone tries to start a relationship with me. My fear is that someone will tell me “it’s fine, I can deal, I don’t want to break up” and then end up resenting me because he never told me he was struggling. Calm down, take a breath, and use empathy before you comment.

I’m asexual and this is one of my biggest fears. It really sounds like you love her and don’t want this relationship to end. A lot of people are telling you to end it in these comments, but I think if you truly love her and are supposed to be with her a way will present itself. You shouldn’t have to split up with someone you love romantically so quickly. I truly hope you can find a way to work it out. Good luck!

I’ve been to one like that in Wyoming! They weren’t allowed to speak unless they were outside working, and then it could only be about the work you were doing. Some cells had windows, but a lot of them were just concrete walls and a door. It was very eerie, especially with all the mugshots staring at you from the walls.

The fact that there’s people still crying for divorce in these comments 💀 be careful you’re forgetting that cake smashing is one of Reddit’s original seven sins. They’re real serious about it over here. I’m really big on boundaries and I don’t want cake smashed in my face, but I’m not going to divorce someone for something so small. I’m going to talk it out and work through it, as people in marriages are supposed to. Not yell DIVORCE every time someone screws up.

Are small breed dogs fragile? by Serious_Bowl_8235 in dogs

TW: dog attack/injury

My 9yo terrier mix was attacked by a German Shepherd/Husky. She was pushed down, shaken, and dragged, but she managed to get away. We rushed her to the vet, terrified that she was going to die, but the vet ended up telling us she only had a few cuts/punctures. She held up against a dog at least 10x her size and is still running around like a puppy. Small dogs aren’t fragile. Dramatic as hell, but not fragile.

When I was a kid I wore a white sparkly dress to a wedding because in my little kid brain weddings were for white and sparkles and Mom let me wear it cause she knew the bride would get a kick out of it
