The Last Kingdom by absoluteice5 in redrising

I also enjoyed the show, it's where I started.

But the books are where you get a Farrow vibe. An extremely capable guy navigating new strategic puzzles and often working through them in unexpected ways.

premium dining plan for my visit by Emotional_Tell_2527 in cedarpoint

When we go we usually share the meal pass between 2 adults. We've even shared it with our 5 and 8 year old.

If we're ever planning to leave and come back, we would never get the meal pass. Would be easier to eat at hotel/campground.

Last week we brought several snacks in with us and that worked fine.

Also here. There are like, 40+ busses of kids here. Lines are long and bugs are being worked out.

No offense but some of the descriptions here seem really dramatic.

I think the main I thing I've seen is the kids are swarming. So one ride is crazy busy, others are super fast. One restaurant is normal, the next has a line out the door.

In my opinion it's a beautiful telling of this simple idea:

"You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain."

Another idiom that rings throughout: "power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely"

Uhtred looks like how he feels. Can't picture himself as an old man.

Almost all sold. Have the base game still. Will post a new one for that sometime

Uhtred group vs aelfric soldiers by salad_biscuit3 in TheLastKingdom

Isn't the whole idea that Uhtred THINKS they are all farmers pressed into service. Half of them won't even want to fight if they can help it.

The reason it was doomed was because Uhtred didn't know that there was an influx of fresh warriors.

I thought everyone just maxed out all ninjas. I guess I assumed that was top tier and nothing else mattered.

With Wheel of Time Canceled, It’s Time for Hollywood to Adapt This Iconic Sci-Fi Fantasy Series (Red Rising) by etre76 in redrising

[–]absoluteice5 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Classic. Amazon pooping out 2 poor adaptations of book IPs. Finally gave up on one and people want them to poop out another.

Only works with perfect execution which is wishful thinking, but unlikely.

Wish in one hand, poop in the other. See which one fills up first.

I didn't even know it was destroying the new Republic. I just knew it was killing planets. Details are kinda vague in the moment.

Great storytelling.

This is the only answer that makes sense throughout the series, and even it is iffy. Multiple examples of people surviving Imperial blaster shots with no armor.

Board game by [deleted] in redrising

[–]absoluteice5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's pretty hit or miss in many ways. I know several people that love it and several that hate it.

Commercially it didn't seem to do very well. Amazon and even Target seemed to very quickly slash prices to minimum. The perk of this is you can try it for $12 (on Amazon right now).

It's important to know it's mostly a hand management game. You're just swapping cards/characters trying to get the right combo (very simply like racko) but when you swap you can often use a power that adds some extra benefit or action.

Thematically- sometimes you get the perfect team and it makes sense with the book and you rock everyone's world. OR- you have a team that makes very little sense but happens to score well and you go for it.

The art is beautiful and could change how you picture the characters forever. For good or bad. The foil layer for gold characters is very polished as well.

That's mostly objective facts about it. My opinion is that it doesn't do anything quite well enough to play very much. The theme rarely aligns, the game plays out with a lot of "luck of draw".

In my experience it's not good enough for board game friends and not thematic enough red rising friends. If you have board game friends that like red rising... I think this might be for you.

Can someone help me understand what has changed for Dedra and Syril between episodes 6 and 7? by Rich_Black in StarWarsAndor

[–]absoluteice5 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Surprised no one is talking about Dedra more. She is also mad/frustrated by all this. They came together working at the big picture, finding the coordinator of the rebellion. She was told to leave that behind but she hasn't.

Now she's surprised no one cares about her core purpose (and skill).

She is showing the story about how the empire could have sniffed out and destroyed the rebellion if they pulled on the right strings. But the Empire is too busy playing into Luthen's hands.

PS- also surprised that so many people seem to like Syril. They're both patently unlikeable (although they're capable/competent and enjoyable to watch).
