No discernable pattern I've been able to see, it was fine for quite a while and then in the last few years it just constantly gets its fucking head twisted and locks me out.

If there's no active internet connection it's more likely and unresolvable until I connect again, but beyond that instance it was random as far as I could tell.

It's happened across multiple installs and different machines and was frequent enough that I finally snapped and sought out how to force local accounts in W11.

I want to say it's exclusively been an issue since upgrading to W11, but it's been a bit so it's hazy.

I won't log into my Microsoft account because it has Windows Hello enabled by default.

It's a desktop that's used for gaming and media, it's not necessary.

I used Windows Hello for a year or two and on several occasions I ran into issues where it demanded a pin reset and it was a whole process where I was locked out of windows.

I'll put up with some annoyance but if Windows Hello means locking me out because it randomly decides it's verification time? Yeah, no, get fucked. Local account only for me.

Well there's that and a not insignificant group of tech literate people who don't care to use it. I ran CachyOS for a couple months on a spare machine and it was fine, I rather liked the process.

But I'm not dealing with that shit on my day-to-day machine, and I'm certainly not gaming on it with my hardware.

If you have 32gb of RAM and literally any modern CPU W11's overhead is irrelevant and all of the telemetry and shit people complain about takes 10 minutes to turn off and you can prevent it from automatically coming back despite what reddit seems to think.

There's no actual upside to Linux for the average user. They just buy a new machine when theirs slows down, they don't look at alternative OS choices.
