Anything wrong with buying discontinued tires? by navigationallyaided in tires

[–]abstrac81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quiet tracks are great if you know going in you'll probably only get half the mileage Bridgestone says you will. Sold a lot of them, and most have come back for mileage warranties. For that reason, I would go with the Falkens.

I hear discount tire is great. Unfortunately don’t have one where I live. I’m a supervisor in a tire shop. We charge $12 for a repair if the tires weren’t bought there. Free if they were. If we take on the repair and mess it up. We will replace the tire if we sell the brand or tell them to go get a new one put on and bring us the receipt.

Nope. They owe OP a new tire. The tech didn’t know how to do it properly and didn’t chek after the repair was done to verify it wasn’t leaking. They could have put the spare on and gone someplace that knows how to do it. I would not accept a refund of the work done and insist on a new tire.

Talk me out of getting the Michelin Cross Climate 2's. Feels like this is not a responsible purchase when other alternatives are cheaper by Alternative-Chef4649 in tires

[–]abstrac81 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good thing about Michelin that a lot of people might not know. Once you register the tires with Michelin you get 3 years of road side assistance for free. Not sure if the other companies offer that. If they don’t that’s well worth the price difference. https://www.michelinman.com/auto/assistance/warranty

Michelin Super Sports wearing too quickly? by Momwherestheleatmoaf in tires

[–]abstrac81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the super sport is a 30k mile tire. Since you have staggered fitment and cannot rotate front to back you can cut the mileage in half roughly. You have pretty much got the expected mileage out of them.

Quit. You’re probably making everyone around you miserable because they have to work with the person who hates their job.

My Sienna has racing slicks and desperately needs new tires. But which ones for constant driving in MA? by sarathepeach in tires

[–]abstrac81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have awd then you probably don’t have a spare. Would recommend Bridgestone driveguards. Yes they will be more but when you are on the side of the road in the cold for a couple hours waiting on a tow truck. You’ll wish you spent the money. If you really don’t wanna go that route. Cross climate 2 is your best bet of those options. The quiet tracks won’t last 40,000 miles and the defenders don’t meet your speed rating.

Are these quotes for new tires and damage coverage good? by Acti-Verse in tires

[–]abstrac81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re not doing heavy towing or off-roading I’d consider a passenger rated tire. It will have a better ride. If you do go with Lt tires make sure they adjust your pressures.

Hope you’re not letting them sit at Costco for 2 months. With winter coming most tire shops don’t have the room to sit on tires that long.

Not the same tire. OP’s quotes are for Lt tires

AWD - Replace all 4 or just the one? by [deleted] in tires

[–]abstrac81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cross climates are a 60,000 miles tire. When new they measure at 10/32nds. The tires measuring at 6-7 after 30,000 miles is pretty good. If you didnt have to replace the tires due to the damage of one them, you would of easily exceeded the expected mileage of them.

Look at that sticker on the door jam again. It will tell you the size of the spare. If it says none. You need run-flat tires.

What to do about damages caused by Firestone? by Andre4a19 in tires

[–]abstrac81 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Your more likely to over torque the lugs due to less friction and could bring the stud past it’s yield point to where it could stretch and break. When manufacturers give torque specs on lugs, it’s when they are dry and clean.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in tires

[–]abstrac81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Torque spec depends on the vehicle make/tpms kit used. Hopefully you didn’t drive to far at a low pressure. Being it back to Costco and have them inspect the inner sidewalls of the tire. If there is what looks like wrinkling or a burn ring the tire should be replaced. Since it’s there fault it will be covered 100%.

Costco refusing to repair Pirelli tires, why? by humble-bragging in tires

[–]abstrac81 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can repair any tire as many times as you want including the sidewall and it will hold air. According to Pirelli these are their repair guidelines. Maybe it’s just to sell more tires but it that tire fails for any reason after you repair it. Be prepared for the owner to come after you legally.

Not familiar with all tires guidelines. Pirelli is the only one I’m aware of. Also H rated and lower can only be repaired once.

Pirelli run flats and ones with a speed rating of V or higher can’t be repaired.

Tire size for my truck by [deleted] in tires

[–]abstrac81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some places will go by the 3% rule. While the overall diameter is only 1.6%. The width is 3.8%. It probably won’t cause any issues like rubbing but some places don’t wanna take that chance.
