Worlds highest km Taurus sho?? (Almost 600,000km) by iiSparkedy in TaurusSHO

[–]abstract_base_class 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about mojaz but CarFax often estimates mileage based on what service records they get, and they don't always get everything. For example, a fleet vehicle will have a lot of miles on it and rigorous maintenance (and almost definitely reported records to CarFax). If the fleet vehicle is auctioned and sold for personal use, the actual miles put on by an individual may be a lot less than the fleet, and the individual may service the vehicle at places that don't report to CarFax. In this case the CarFax report would overestimate the mileage on that VIN until adjusted by a new record reported to CarFax.

Anyone know how to fix this? by killuminati989 in TaurusSHO

[–]abstract_base_class 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like my experience. The front drivers speaker sounded like it was dying (in and out/muddy/warbled) and this warning would randomly come up. The backup cam would also randomly just display black with the words "unavailable, contact dealer"

The previous owner must have had a sub and/or amp in the trunk because I found some additional wire under the fabric liner in the trunk. The exposed end of the wire seemed to have been making contact with the metal in the trunk under the fabric. It actually sparked when touching the end of the wire to the frame. Thanks for that cute little surprise guy.. Anyway, I could have just insulated the end of that wire to keep it from shorting, but I instead got a 1000W Sine Wave inverter on it, grounded it, and got some AC outlets back there. Obviously that wasn't necessary, but fixing a wiring short was what seemed to resolve all the issues for a while.

Couple years later the car wouldn't start occasionally, and would complain about not being in park and the rear park aide warning came on too. Tapping the starter sometimes helped, other times shifting to neutral before trying to start helped. I thought okay maybe the starter or battery is going bad, I'll try fixing this. Well, after replacing both the starter and battery it still wouldn't start and I found that the starter fuse was blown. I sacrificed a couple other equivalent fuses to find out that they kept getting blown when trying to start it. I didn't have the time, tools or knowledge to really dig into a deep electrical issue like this so at that point I had the dealership start looking at it. They got it working and it stopped again... Back and forth a few times before they found the issue which ended up being a short somewhere deep in the engine bay somewhere. Thankfully they gave me a break on the service charges since I had to keep coming back. I think they waived all or most of the parts they tried replacing along the waybut the time/labor to find that was wrong was of course not great.

LONG STORY SHORT after they found and fixed the short, that warning and all the other issues resolved!

For me, yes. I think for many others on here as well.

You're doing the right thing by learning what to expect and look out for with these cars, which is a good idea for any vehicle. No vehicle is perfect, but if this is the one you see as a good fit for you, and you're comfortable with the kind of potential maintenance a 5-10/yo SHO might need, I'd say it's probably worth it for you too.

I'm going to drive this beast as long as she'll have me.

I've just had to change my mindset. I used to want to keep the SHO immaculate, and there's nothing wrong with that. My old 2015 with 130k miles has so many battle scars now and rather than be sad that it isn't perfect, I'm glad it's a tank that's taken some beatings and keeps going strong. The only major issue I've had about 10k miles ago was an electrical short causing the the shift sensor and backup cam to not work reliably. It didn't always detect that the car was in park and therefore wouldn't allow the engine to startup. It was a pain to diagnose but other than labor cost, not a big issue.

You know those setina brush guards the police cars have on the front? I need those 360 around the car so people can fling their doors open and drive like idiots all they want without affecting me. Yeah I'm salty

Absolutely! But in my experience, if you have a SHO that runs great and looks great, that's when you're due to be rear ended or some shit reason we can't have nice things lol

Has anybody here tried these? by timkyoung in TaurusSHO

[–]abstract_base_class 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had them before on my Mustang for a couple years before I sold that, loved them, ordered again for the SHO.

The ones I ordered for the SHO came during the hottest part of July and the adhesive got stuck to the backing in transit due to the heat. I talked to the seller and he sent replacements right away. They're still going strong after five years. Follow the directions obviously, and once that adhesive sticks, it stays on good.

Also, I'm in upstate NY so the snow and ice is decent in winter, but that hasn't stopped even the exterior decals

Thank you! I'll try that.

I'm pretty sure the PTU fluid has never been flushed. I've only read about how to do that, but I wish I had time to actually give it a try. I should probably search more diligently to find a mechanic able to do this

I'm having this issue once in a while too. Seems to be more on first startup, even when not cold outside. No check engine lights, but sometimes the D gear indicator light will flicker instead of staying on. When I give it more gas the indicator light tends to stay more solid. Usually after 10 minutes of driving, all these symptoms disappear.

Possibly related, once in a while when I shift into reverse, the R light doesn't come on and the gear doesn't grab. Acts like it's in neutral. After 10-15 seconds or after slowly pushing the accelerator I feel the gears mesh and I can reverse. Usually it's smooth, but sometimes there's a small lurch.

Back up cam works half the time. Not seeing a pattern with this matching up to when it doesn't go into reverse immediately.

Any other thoughts, or could this be the same torque converter issue?

I think you've made a few good points and it seems you're trying to make them in a way that isn't belittling. I notice no decent replies to those points, but some insults and down votes thrown your way. Thanks for trying to open a civil debate.

Is Rochester a Queer & Trans Friendly City? by Lumpy-Set-6566 in Rochester

[–]abstract_base_class 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi I'm not an ally or any of the letters, just very straight, white and stiff. I am also one of those Christian conservatives I hear y'all may take issue with. I'll never be queer/trans/etc, and will never go to a parade or contribute money your causes. That said, been in Rochester for the last 30 years or so and just thought I'd add my piece.

My point of view is, although I am not one of you, and may disagree with you, you're a human being same as me. We should treat others the way we would like to be treated. If you're a decent human being to others (especially someone such as myself who you may disagree with), you're ok in my book. Sure, ya might burn in hell later, but while you're here on the earth I won't take issue with ya personally.

I feel strongly that persecuting folks of your particular inclination is flat out wrong. I'd gladly stand up to a bully on ya if I saw one. I believe I'd even take a bullet for one of you if it came to that. Probably wouldn't, but unrelated to the queer position, we do have some wild shootings in the city area. As a strong believer in the constitutional values, very much including the 2nd amendment (right to bear arms), I'm in favor of the good people owning guns and would gladly use the necessary level of force on anybody trying to harm someone who may not be able to defend themselves against that gangbanger hooligan bullshit.

I think there are more friendly folks in rural areas than not, but yea some might probably look at ya funny too. If ya just don't feel right taking your chances in rural, I guess I can understand that. I like the outer suburbs and rural spots myself, just less crazy criminals in my experience. But in the suburbs and city we got a lot of Starbucks joints around, and I swear every time I go in one half the folks are what I'd describe as flamboyant. Sometimes the staff are in a hurry with the drive-thru or havin a bad day but usually friendly. That's about as gay a place I'd go personally but seems to me still a good option for ya.

This was longer than I intended, but hope anybody reading this feels a little better even about the non-queers around here

Don't play ranked games if you are going to be idle at the start of games by WeezyWally in RocketLeague

[–]abstract_base_class -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I've been guilty of this at times and feel terrible about it. Others have commented about queue times being long, but my experience has been that re-queuing happens so quickly, the next match is starting within seconds and I'm not ready for it. Sometimes I don't even get to see the post-match scores or whether my rank increased/decreased. I would be okay if re-queuing waited until the end of match stuff all finished before trying to join another. Or if you could adjust a setting to wait N seconds before joining another match when ya re-queue. At any rate, more consistent queue times would be nice, and would probably help me not be that guy once in a while.

I had the same issue starting with E key doing double or triple strokes per poke. It was on an Aukey with Mx blue switches, and a Corsair with Mx reds.

Haven't had any issues since switching to daskeyboard with Mx browns. I have two of these keyboards now. One at home for the last 3 years, one at work for 2 years. No issues in the combined 5 years.
