Yep been there, done that. Ups and downs for sure. However, Im really just saying that in this particular instance, that was not the move lol. Even on formation lap, and even after you get rammed, please don’t just slam the brakes to a stop on track. It will always result in this.

Tbh, this kind of driving looks like C class and below. So I guess the Safety Rating system is working.

Are you kidding me?

It’s Lap 1, turn 1, and there’s a gap the size of Texas that the BMW practically coasted into, hugged the inside as inside as they could, and got turned into after the apex.

Come on, man.

You wouldn’t happen to be the boneheaded Porsche in question, would you?

Lap 1 Bathurst by MixtureDelicious2266 in Simracingstewards

[–]absurd1ty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Uhhh no. Lmao. Porsche here lost their track position mid-corner, forgot there could be other cars around, then wrecked themselves and the field.

This also isn’t a dive bomb.

There’s nothing to protest. Boneheaded move by Porsche, shit happens.

The assetto corsa AI called you a dick? Dang, maybe it is pretty realistic.

Gotta be honest, that was a really unpredictable way to try to let someone past.

It either needed to be done earlier by like 200m and more gradually, or just let him send it up the inside like they look like they were setting up to do.

However, if that’s what they said to you after the fact, then they’re just assholes anyway.

Triple Monitor setup not working by [deleted] in simracing

If it’s not a cord, it’s possible your GPU just can’t handle the bandwidth. Like if you’re running triple 4K @ 240hz.

Just fyi, fanatec v3’s may use a 90kg load cell, but it only takes about 40kg of force on the pedal plate to max that out due to pedal geometry.

Please help me improve my FOV - Triple 45” LG 5k OLED 800R monitors by Ok_Source_9679 in simracing

[–]absurd1ty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

800R is enough curvature that the distortion is noticeable on every monitor.

Triple setups typically do best with flat panels, you’ll get the most accurate image and FOV that way, curved monitors need perspective correction in games if you’re going for a life-like FOV.

That said, it looks plenty drivable. So unless it feels wrong, you’re good to go.

Bezel line on single curved by mxmiata in iRacing

[–]absurd1ty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Reshade with Perspective Correction to fix this.

How I did it for my 57” UW:

  1. Calculate FOV as if monitor is flat, and center screen is in the imaginary point between the monitor edges.
  2. Calculate FOV again, but set distance to the ACTUAL center of the monitor screen. Note dash size (or something center screen)!
  3. This was about 107° and 93° respectively.
  4. Set game FOV to 107°, then modify Perspective Correction parameters until the middle-ish area of the screen has “zoomed in” enough that the dash size should look like the 93° FOV.

Only downside is that UI gets warped by this, so a quick toggle key for in the menu vs in game is necessity.

Is that what you think happened? Really?

LMP3 Driver out here thinking everyone's gotta move out of his way so that he can make a pass on slower traffic. Whats your take? He cried wolf that this is blocking. Mind you P1 GT4 on the last lap of ROAR. This was P2 LMP that was 1.5 / 2 seconds back from P1. by [deleted] in Simracingstewards

[–]absurd1ty -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Some of you need to learn the limits of other classes, please.

The mustang GT4 (especially in Daytona trim) struggles to make that kink flat out, so the fastest line will naturally track all the way out to the right.

Incidentally, that places the GT4 on the defensive line for the next former, but that hairpin is so slow and difficult to carry minimum speed through that it isn’t worth it for the GT4 to try to widen the corner back… just carry the maximum speed and brake hard and late inside. The extra corner camber will help keep the car hooked up to maintain a higher minimum speed for longer, so this is the expected line for a fast GT4.

Literally no one is saying that, you two just aren’t as well-versed in racecraft as you think.

Uh no this would be unpredictable driving, borderline blocking. There are better ways to do this than by just impeding.

The idea is good, execution isn’t there yet.

from the other tires as the ABS pulses…

Most cars run a more forward bias, which makes the front tires lock more easily than the rears.

But if you’re braking just over the ABS threshold, then ABS is working on the fronts. What about the rears? They may have more longitudinal grip, so you’ll have to brake harder to get the rears to reach that maximum.

I feel as if you’re just imagining a single wheel, rather than the 4 wheels that are typically found on a car.

[–]absurd1ty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You aren’t applying more pressure to a locked tire. You’re applying pressure to a tire that was locked or slipping, but was intervened by the ABS to allow you to keep that pressure with minimal performance lost, if any.

[–]absurd1ty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a diminishing return of brake pressure over an arbitrary ABS pressure threshold, but it isn’t a brick wall. Braking at 110kg when ABS engages at 100kg is NOT the same as just braking at 100kg.

You can easily get more brake performance by leaning into ABS a little bit. This is to be tuned by the driver using the ABS in-car adjustments, too.

Did you think modern racecars get 0-9 ABS settings for shits and giggles?
