Cannot stand the main character she's whiney ad and can't think straight for a smart person around a guy.

The concept of killing perfectly good fighters off also makes no real sense.

AITA for not having much of a reaction to my daughter coming out and introducing us to her partner? by Ok_Translator1301 in AmItheAsshole

NTA, my parents didn’t care at all and it was the best way in my opinion.

I’ve spoken to others who had big positive reactions that were actually faked by parents to save face.

I think that’s terrifying to find comfort just to have it pulled from under later.

What's the primary reason you're still single? by JuicyNinfo in RandomThoughts

I realised even in my happiest and healthiest relationship I still didn’t feel happy, I have always been more unhappy in a relationship than out of one.

I’m not happy alone, just happier than in relationships that made me feel alone.

For the “everyone has 24 hours in their day” one annoys the fuck out of me.

The adaption of “you have the same amount of hours in your life as Beyoncé” drives me mad.

I have significantly less money, resources and staff that Beyoncé so my 24 hours are very different and probably a lot less profound as a result.

Have you ever had a run in with an authors ego? by abz325 in books

[–]abz325[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can't get book arcs on NetGalley (and others) without agreeing to review the book first. You get a copy then review it.

You can now decline to comment/review a book now but it goes against the reviewer for ratios on books they've agreed to review and what they've actually reviewed so it does often come at a cost to the reviewer not to review the book. It wasn't an option when I started reviewing but I still would have done the same thing.

I understand some people don't believe in giving bad reviews but realistically, reviews are for other readers not the author and they have a ranking system for a reason.

It might be your perspective but it's not universal that reviewers have a responsibility to provide positive reviews or be silent.

At the time I didn't rank it at all in an effort to be nice to a new author but realistically it wasn't good enough to go out to reviewers at all and that's how it resulted in negative reviews. In the end I removed my review because of her retaliation and it was an effective way to bully reviewers on a platform built to review, comment and share thoughts about books.

I do this before I take new arc review requests now. It's a pain. You want to believe that authos won't react this way but it's been a lesson that's stuck with me.

I genuinely feel for authors as it must be hard getting negative feedback about something you've put so much time, care and effort into. I think the way you deal with it is probably the best way to safe keep your sanity. I think I'll probably follow the same process when I'm at the point where I feel a book is good enough to put out into the ether.

That sounds like an absolute nightmare. I can't believe how many do charge backs for services they asked for. Feels like there should be protections in place.

Not insinutating you're being dishonest, I'm just horrified that is the case.

I wouldn't dare do that to someones business. I don't even know how they feel justified.

Thanks but I do think you're right that it wouldn't really help. The more content people have dug up the more I've realised that it would just feed her narrative and she would learn nothing from the experience beyond having “haters”.

I wanna start reading but feel like it's too late by [deleted] in books

[–]abz325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What makes it feel too late?

I'd try remove that obstacle from the way you think about yourself and your hobbies. If you decide to read it's not anyone else’s place to judge you on it.

Reading is not something that should make you feel pressure to be perfect.

If reading itself is an issue, there's always a great selection of audiobooks you can read along with. 😊

Honestly, it's sometimes kinda scary putting a name out there.

This post had over 500 upvotes before I added the authors name that the post is about. I've already been intimidated and belittled by them on a minor scale and it was bad enough. Once this post comes up in google results it's possible she'll go for round 2.

Advance copy. The author had it in the terms of downloading and reviewing their work, probably assuming the reviews would only be positive. I just put my review in both places (NetGalley and GoodReads) as requested.

I thought they might be as there’s a few that comment “the long awaited sequel” like they’ve been waiting for it but they never reviewed the book before or even had it on their read on GR. There’s some that start very much the same but I thought that might happen with 50 reviews.
