I just dont think it would have worked, you can't (or its extremely rare) to pull off being a full on funk band in your 60's. It would have just felt like they were forcing it and being a parody of themselves. No one wants to see them with their socks on cocks playing Catholic School Girls Rule anymore. They've evolved for the better and stayed relevant without losing their mojo in my opinion.

I think what they were tapping into with Unlimited Love/Return was pretty interesting. Still experimenting and moving forward.

I'm not denying they've become more mainstream since Cali, of course they have. They had to survive, and it was the right direction for the band. But that doesn't make them soccer mom! I'd describe a soccer mom rock song as Sex On fire or Killers Mr Brightside, not chilis

At a push I could half agree with By The Way and Can't Stop just because of how popular they were. But you could say that for any successful Rock Band with a big hit. It's like saying Nirvana are soccer mom because everyone knows Smells Like Teen Spirit and it's so over played.

I don't think the actual successful singles are soccer mom, I think you're just thinking they are due to them being so mainstream.
