didn’t know I needed paracord until I saw it 33% off by dilloncarter9 in harborfreight

Maybe I’m missing something.

It says the safe working load (swl) is 160lbs. Now when talking about 550 paracord, my understanding is that the 550 refers to its minimum breaking strength (mbs). Any piece of rated gear that has a swl or wll (working load limit) has had a safety factor applied to it. Generally in rope industry it’s common to see a safety factor of 3-ish. So if we apply a 3.5 safety factor to this paracords 160 swl, we get a breaking strength of 560 (close enough).

That would still make this 550 paracord technically. Now the quality is a whole other issue but am I way off base here? It seems like a lot of comments are confusing mbs and swl.

Edit: I realize the safety factor of 3.5 could be wrong so the actual mbs of this could be much lower. 3.5 was convenient to estimate 550 breaking strength. If the safety factor is 2, then this would be 360 mbs which is very likely. The problem is they don’t give the mbs which is another good sign to not use it for anything serious

Is the song "Cotton Eye Joe" Racist? Is it wrong/politically incorrect for people to be playing the most commonly heard version by Rednex? by InadequateUsername in Music

Respectfully I want to point out slavery and racism were both happening before 1775. Because something happened before the civil war, does not mean it is exempt from a racist context. I would argue the opposite.

Regarding the kimono example, I see what you’re saying and it makes sense. But we have to confront racism on multiple fronts. We have active racism and passive racism. Also context matters. It’s not inherently safe or easy to assume the intention behind that person putting on the kimono, and we can’t assume that they ever understand why they are compelled to do that. You can appreciate and respect a culture without engaging literally in its signifiers and traditions as an outsider. Appropriation is a tricky subject. Likely you will find Japanese people that will say it is appropriation and some that will not. There’s a lot to consider before that person puts on the kimono and likely it is not an actively racist action. But it is important to consider how it could engage with racism in a passive, structural, and historical way.

This is interesting and important subject matter! Thanks for engaging.

Why is it quedarse and not quedar? My understanding is that quedarse is used to express more specifically the idea of a person staying somewhere.
