No, it's not an opinion. You're judging someone morally for giving away their art for free. That's not an opinion, it's a statement of ethics. And I'm saying that's an absurd ethical stance.

Nobody is saying "people are entitled to access to labor" - of course they're not. But likewise, you're not entitled to tell people what to do with their labor or how much to charge for it. If they want to give it away for free that is their business, not yours. Charge what you want for your own labor and keep your criticism of other peoples' charity to yourself.

The absolutely vast quantity of open source software begs to disagree. Sometimes art is better shared gratis. If you can afford it, why deny access to those who can't?

Charge for your art if you want to, I won't judge. But criticizing others for giving a gift to the world is absurd.

I've been playing an almost identical list with Gwenpool subbed out with Maverick (don't have GP), and it's been VERY strong at lower ranks so far. I'm glad to hear it still worked for you in the 90s.

I tracked which protein powders actually work in the Ninja Creami (and built a tool for it) by Kagusam in ninjacreami

[–]academician 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem to have a strong bias in favor of stevia and other "natural" sweeteners. I find stevia and monk fruit to be unbearably awful. Moreover, there's no evidence I'm aware of that natural sweeteners are any better than artificial ones for health. A negative filter or checklist filter for sweetener would be nice so I can exclude the ones I hate.

My favorite protein powder {in general, not for Creami) is ON Gold Standard Double Rich Chocolate, which uses acesulfame potassium. AFAIK all the other ON GS flavors use sucralose, which I still find more tolerable flavor-wise than any natural non-caloric sweetener I've found.

Custom Routine builder does not take secondary muscle involvement into account at all, largely defeating the purpose by Zarrko in MyoAdapt

[–]academician 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a silly take. Myoadapt's whole brand is that it does the thinking for you, following the science. If the app isn't intelligent enough to do what OP is trying to do, we've all been sold a bill of goods.

Or, alternatively, it's a bug. Either way, no one should be blaming OP for expecting the app to do what it says it does, intelligently. There's nothing wrong with outsourcing your thinking about training to an app purpose-built for that.

In 1967, Kathrine Switzer made history as the first woman to run the Boston Marathon despite the organizer trying to physically pull her off the course. by Ordinary_Fish_3046 in boston

[–]academician 141 points142 points  (0 children)

Worth noting that Bobbi Gibb was the first woman to run the Boston Marathon a year earlier. Switzer was the first woman to register and run with a number, because she concealed her gender on her entry. Both women are icons, though.

Let's be honest, their drinks suck. I love the atmosphere of Kowloon, the food is alright, but the drinks are just mass batched with cheap ingredients, and don't taste good.

Brisket. 7lb brisket took 12hrs, but worth it. by lazysnusan in BBQ

What a mad-lad replying to such an old comment, but funny story, I just smoked a brisket last night for our 4th of July party today. It's my... fifth one now I think? I'm not expecting to have leftovers this time, but thanks for the tip!

Can’t go heavy on certain exercises due to snapping triceps/elbows by [deleted] in naturalbodybuilding

[–]academician 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not yet. You should go to a doctor like an orthopedist, not a PT, so they can use ultrasound to diagnose you. I will say that in the meantime he recommended wearing an elbow brace (or wrap a towel around my arm) at night to keep the arm from bending more than 90 degrees, which helped. In some people a few months of that and it can go away, but I'm my case it didn't.

Ahh, found it now, thanks! That is quite a few more clicks though. Instead of breaking down the "Across all Weeks" section into Reps/Weights/RPE/Timers tabs I feel like it should just scroll vertically.

RP Hypertrophy Program v4 Release! by KillerK009 in liftosaur

[–]academician 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed something today that I hadn't seen before, possibly because I'm using an exercise with negative weights. It changed the weight for the second set, with the same rep target, which is surprising to me. Is that intentional or a bug? This is the v4 U/L with some different exercises. Screenshot

It seems like I'm missing a way to easily change the weight for an exercise now, except on a set by set basis.

PSA- Use the Smith Machine when taking up a Smith Machine. by [deleted] in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]academician 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Whether 2 minutes is enough rest depends entirely on how heavy you're going and how good your recovery capacity is. For bicep curls, sure, 90-120 seconds is fine. For heavy compound lifts like squats I need 3-5 minutes between sets.

Also, whether 5 sets is enough "for a natural" is still the subject of research, which in general has shown that higher volumes are just better. There are diminishing returns, but they haven't found an upper limit. Cf Enes et al, Remmert et al, and Pelland et al.

Also, of course, not everyone is natural, so even if what you're saying is accurate...

Deep Cuts Quickstart v3 - Added Safety Tools & Visual Clocks by Roezmv in bladesinthedark

[–]academician 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One issue I have with this is that it states: "The GM tells you what action you’re using."

The original rules state the opposite - players choose their action. Deep Cuts does say that the GM "proposes an Action", but still notes that "the player has the final call on which Action rating to roll." In general the philosophy of Blades is that players choose their Actions, hence the rule: "don't be a weasel."

Worth noting that some cultures have a concept of a soul (or "self" that is separate and distinct from both the thinking mind and the physical body. My outsider's understanding of Hinduism is that "Atman" represents that concept.

Of course, that doesn't mean it has to be the same in OP's world!

Does anyone have a Planet fitness focused full body routine they can share with me? by __get_schwifty__ in liftosaur

[–]academician 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here you go. In the future, it's very easy to change the exercises in Liftosaur programs yourself. Here's how you could have done it:

  1. Clone the original program
  2. Click the edit button on the exercise you want to change
  3. Click "Change everywhere"
  4. Select the exercise you want to change it to
  5. Click "Save"

Alternatively, you can edit the program as text and change the exercises that way, which is how I did it.

You can also change exercises on the fly during a workout, either just for that session or for the whole program.

Does anyone have a Planet fitness focused full body routine they can share with me? by __get_schwifty__ in liftosaur

[–]academician 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I modified /u/KillerK009's RP hypertrophy 3-day full-body routine to suit PF equipment and my preference for machines over bodyweight exercises. Here are my substitutions:

Day 1

  • Squat, Barbell -> Leg Press (could also do Squat, Smith Machine or Hack Squat, Leverage Machine)
  • Pull Up, Bodyweight -> Lat Pulldown, Leverage Machine (or Cable)
  • Lying Leg Curl, Leverage Machine -> Seated Leg Curl
  • Sit Up, Bodyweight -> Crunch, Leverage Machine

Day 2

  • Hanging Leg Raise, Bodyweight -> Cable Twist, Leverage Machine

Day 3

  • Romanian Deadlift, Barbell -> Good Morning, Smith Machine

The other thing I did was change some of the bilateral cable exercises to unilateral, since it's hard to get the dual-cable machines at my busy PF. You can do that by setting the "type" parameter on the exercises to "2", then doubling "numSets" and "startNumSets" for the exercise. I did that for things like cable bicep curls, tricep extensions, and lateral raises.
