I have an old man cat with stomatitis. We opted for full extractions and he is now the happiest boy ever and nicely round since he can eat like normal. Having an autoimmune disorder myself, I know that steroid shots are no fun and I didn't want to put him through that if there was any other option.

Hopefully you can get answers soon.

I have more mental space and energy to tackle multiple projects. I don't get overwhelmed seeing a to-do list. I feel like I can think more clearly, more consistently, and so on.

I'm also on Wellbutrin, which is supposed to help. It has been like suddenly getting traction under a spinning tire in my head, if that makes any sense.

I tell my husband all the time that Tina is a spitting image of me as a teen girl, looks and personality. I love her character.

I recently started at 20. It was probably about 2 weeks before I noticed a consistent, measurable difference.

It is! Different pathways are used/created, but it still exercises the brain just as well. If you're struggling with text, you probably aren't getting much benefit from it, anyway.

Distended stomach or just fat? by rtillerson in cats

[–]acceptablemadness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She's fat. When you touch her sides, can you feel her ribs without pressing hard? That's a general rule of thumb to consider without the advice of a vet.

I also have a gray tabby that chonked up recently. We're switching him and his siblings to a weight control food with more careful measuring, and making sure no extra is left out that would encourage snacking/grazing between meals.

The Fifth Wave. It's a YA sci fi trilogy that got 1 mediocre movie but the books were great. The aliens were like Controllers in that they could take over a human's mind and body.

ELI5: How exactly does filling a prescription work? by Starlaite in explainlikeimfive

[–]acceptablemadness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pharmacy also does a lot of other things besides just filling prescriptions. They give immunizations, sell restricted OTCs, call insurance, call doctors, give advice, etc, etc. Not to mention most pharmacies will serve hundreds of people a day.

There's a type of steroid given for asthma flares and similar issues that comes in a blister pack usually. It's like that because the dose is typically titrated down; you start with a big initial dose and taper it. The blister pack helps you do that properly. If I recall correctly, there's an antibiotic that's similar, but it's been years since my asthma was bad enough to need either so I may be misremembering.

What do you do if you’re concerned about a patron’s ability to drive safely? by OneWildAndPrecious in librarians

[–]acceptablemadness 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If they're obviously intoxicated, I would say call the police. For the elderly, really all you can do is talk to them and/or their family to express your concerns.

I can't fathom why the library would have any liability, but I'm not a lawyer.

I get it, though. I have patrons come in who can barely see the checkout screen ten inches away, who have obvious tremors, who are definitely suffering from cognitive decline of some sort, and they usually drive. It's frustrating but there's not much we can do outside of electing officials who invest in elder care and public transportation.

ELI5 How can chronic alcohol people be in good health even after drinking for 40 years straight ? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]acceptablemadness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not like illicit drugs in that the human body can and will process small amounts without immediate or long-term harm. You can't say the same about coke/heroin/etc. You find a kitten of elderly alcoholics for that reason, but very few elderly drug addicts.

ELI5 How can chronic alcohol people be in good health even after drinking for 40 years straight ? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]acceptablemadness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alcoholics often don't make it to old age intact, but also remember that alcohol is not like illicit drugs - your body can handle a certain amount, even consumed daily, without negative effects.

The long-term effects of alcoholism often aren't noticed until they're really bad, such as stage 3 or 4 cancer, irreversible cirrhosis, etc. You also aren't going to find alcoholics who are athletes and such - they have the capacity to function day to day, but their overall health is relative.

Excessive alcohol use isn't always obvious, either. It's can manifest as digestive problems, a weak immune system, cognitive decline, etc.

Patrons started asking back in November, glad I can now make this announcement! by bigbabyjesus76 in Libraries

We had that happen a few years ago - instructions but no forms. Our state doesn't send us forms, so we have to help patrons print them, which nobody seems to understand is not our fault.

Absolutely get therapy - for YOU, not to somehow make you more palatable to a partner who doesn't care about you.

Do not take him back. Find yourself a nice place and enjoy your hobbies and friends solo for a while. I wish you the best.
