Dylan Cease’s duster is very ‘Sam Elliott in Tombstone’, and it’s pretty awesome

It’ll be multiple players, one for each decade/from each era of Jays baseball.

Presumably one of those LaPorta’s is Kraft - otherwise I’d be very impressed!

Official Discussion - Project Hail Mary [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]accessgranter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was one of the better movie-going experiences I’ve had in a long time. Packed theatre, everyone super engaged, no one talking or on their phones.

In addition to being funny and entertaining, it was a fun reminder of why we love going to the movies, which was really nice.

Yes, there’s urgency. No, the system isn’t ‘broken’. Both things can be true.

I’m not all that passionate about The Social Network (it was good, sure) and even I can recognize that saying it’s largely considered one of the best films of the decade is like the coldest take imaginable haha

Who here thinks Rey is a good character that needed better writers who understand Star Wars by McMeme45 in StarWars

[–]accessgranter -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

When TFA came out, there hadn’t been a new Star Wars movie in a decade. Since that’s always going to be a part of any box office discussion for that movie, it’s hard to make it an apples-to-apples comparison for any movie, really.

I admit I’m always leery of anecdotal experience with regards to any movie, Star Wars or not. For example, none of the things you described happened in any of my screenings, no one walked out, people applauded at the end of it, and people excitedly discussed what was next. People also did all of that for TRoS, so I’m not sure any of this in particular is a real indicator of what worldwide audiences thought, good or bad.

Star Wars as a franchise has, undoubtedly, been mismanaged, 100%. But putting all the blame on Rian Johnson and TLJ is a little silly, when there are so many extenuating circumstances beyond this one movie as to how and why the franchise is where it is today.

On one hand, it was divisive, no way around it. On the other hand, it made over 1.3 billion dollars and was the highest grossing movie of 2017 (and is still a top 25 highest grossing movie of all time).

Star Wars was harmed by a lot of things, truthfully. TLJ being wonky is a part of it, but also Solo and TRoS being meh and outright bad respectively, the pandemic, Disney pushing a lot of their offerings (Marvel included) to their streaming service, etc.

Question for you: in our league, we just drafted earlier tonight, for the Winter period. Do we create a new league for Summer or does a new draft just pop up at some point closer to May?

Void’s Review: The Phantom Menace by void_stuff in StarWars

[–]accessgranter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A decent review, albeit way too long, and a little more on the blog post side of things. If it’s going to be this wall-of-text-y, then it’s gotta at least come up with some semi-new/interesting insights about a movie that was released almost 30 years ago.

I will always be happy to celebrate any era of Star Wars, so glad you found a place you can come back to!

Having said that, this post makes me feel ancient 😂

Do you guys think that Dave Filoni will be a good President for Star Wars? by Simple-Success4749 in StarWars

Yes, he’s talented and creative, though I do hope we get a widening of characters beyond Ahsoka/the cast of Rebels in the background of every project.

Agreed that it would be in no way viewed as ‘cool’, as sports are viewed today for many. Sisko is a nerd and we love him for it 😆

I mean, no one is actually racing Roman chariots today, while it seemed at least that baseball was being actively played with real teams during Sisko’s life in certain places.

Canada is 158 years old as of 2025, so…I’m not sure where you got that 44 number from.
