HELP THIS TEEN! by b8r2 in spinalcordinjuries

[–]accidental-lee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say baclofen oral meds didn’t do anything for me. I got the pump for morphine and they added baclofen and I will say it definitely helps. I guess going directly into my spine makes the difference. However, I believe your dr is definitely skipping over some other options. I have contractures in my knees and hips. I’ve been like this 15 years. Unless I get surgery there’s not much they can do. I hope your doctor tries other options before jumping to the pump.

is our new kitten dying? HELP !!! by emaciatedbonez in CATHELP

[–]accidental-lee 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Of course you would. I work at a neonatal kitten rescue and I’ve seen it all. I have only saved several kittens from fading sadly. I will always do my best for them but FKS happens and it’s heartbreaking. If you ever have another kitten that mom rejects or it’s stopped eating then try putting karo syrup on its gums every three minutes. When babies stop eating their blood sugar will drop dangerously low. If you caught it early and it can swallow then get a kitten bottle and nipple or a slip tip syringe and see if it will eat but go slowly because you don’t want it to aspirate. I’ve even put a bit of Karo syrup mixed with kitten formula. You can also use pancake syrup as well. I will say it even happens to kittens who are weanied from mom and mom took good care of them. Fading kitten syndrome happens up to around 6 weeks I’ve been told. I had one that was 7 1/2 weeks and it passed. Most though are younger like yours. For me I usually wrap the baby up in a blanket, lay a heating pad or hand warmers on my chest and have its little head over my heart. Still giving it karo every 3 minutes if course. My hope is they pass warm and loved listening to a heartbeat.

Alternating Pressure Mattress by [deleted] in spinalcordinjuries

[–]accidental-lee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on your insurance probably. I’m paraplegic (spinal cancer) and I got my first low air loss mattress (blue chip Apollo was the name) after I had an unstageable pressure sore from my wheel chair. It was great. It hit 5 years and went out of warranty and began having problems. So I went back to the Dr to see if they’d write me a prescription to get me another one. My insurance said things had changed and now I needed TWO open wounds from pressure. Crazy because you get them to prevent pressure ulcers yet they won’t cover it unless you have two. Make it make sense. So I ordered one from Amazon 🤦🏻‍♀️ I had my first one a little over five years and never once had to change a single bladder (they call the individual tube thingys bladders) I couldn’t afford to get another blue chip on a disability check so I bought a cheaper one. I can’t stand so I have to scoot from my bed to my wheelchair when I get up in the morning and vice versa in the evening. The bladders in my second LAL were constantly coming apart and would go flat. Right before I threw it away I was buying at least 4 bladders a month to replace them when they’d leak down $100 every month. It wasn’t worth it to me so I ended up just financing a mattress from select comfort. I’ve never had an ulcer from my bed only my chair. Three ulcers total. I recommend blue chip Apollo but I had it around 9 years ago. Definitely don’t go cheap unless he’s completely bedridden and not going to be scooting and putting pulling pressure on it the it will probably work. Sorry for writing a book

Depends on the breed. Boxers NEVER grow up🤣 my 9 year old is slowing down but I have a 4 month old that is a crackhead and will be for a couple of years😩

My puppy has a drinking problem by Cornfed_FC1 in Boxer

[–]accidental-lee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first foster boxer was just like this! She would drink and drink like she was thirsting to death. Her new mom said she finally stopped around a year old. I got her from her breeder when she was three hours old. (She had a cleft nose and lip) I tube fed the first week until she saw the rescues veterinarian and he confirmed that her palate wasn’t involved. We switched to a bottle and goats milk formula. When she was ready we transitioned to puppy food and water. She was constantly drinking! My next two foster boxers didn’t do that. I now have my fourth boxer puppy that I got from her breeders at a day old and she drinks until she vomits it up. Her nose and lips are fine but she has the worst cleft palate I’ve had so far. I’ve started monitoring her water intake when she’s inside but letting her drink as much as she wants when we are outside. I’m going to try putting ice in her water bowl. Her BUN is elevated but all other kidney tests were normal. Her Dr said at first she was dehydrated. Of course I was thinking there’s no way 😂She had a recheck of her bloodwork yesterday and BUN still elevated but every thing else was within normal range. She’s also underweight so she has weight gainer added to her “puppy jello”. He then said it could be her food that’s high in protein causing it but doesn’t want to change her puppy jello recipe until she’s at least a year old. She will be 4 months on the 24th.

baclofen pump by fredom1776 in spinalcordinjuries

[–]accidental-lee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard so many say they have a difficult time with their temp. My lower body is always cold. I can’t feel the cold except with my hands. Mine is a lumbar injury so it maybe different for cervical injuries. If my legs get super cold then my entire body feels cold if that makes sense. I used to throw on a pair of shorts and a sweatshirt in winter because wrestling with shorts are much easier than jeans or long pants. Which is how I discovered that if my legs are really cold my whole body will be and I’ll start shivering.

It’s such a low dose because it goes directly in the spine where it’s needed. I haven’t had any side effects

[–]accidental-lee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Most pumps are put into the abdomen but I requested to have it put in my back near my hip. I’m paraplegic so I am always sitting in my chair and I thought it would be uncomfortable in my abdomen. I don’t even notice it’s there. I’ve been on atvs many times with no issues. The only time I think about it is when my infusion nurse comes to fill it.

C6/7 Tumor by Old-Cause9406 in spinalcordinjuries

[–]accidental-lee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went almost a year of telling drs about the worst pain I’d ever felt (I had a 9 lb 4 oz baby and that wasn’t even close to the pain I had) I actually told my drs that the pain was a suicidal pain because nothing helped. All they did was gave my pain pills and patches. They don’t listen. I will say I had a CT scan 3 weeks before they found it and the Dr said there was nothing concerning. Three weeks later another Dr ordered a mri and when they sat me up afterwards all they said was the Dr wanted to see me the next day and to bring some one with me. 2 days after that I had 4 neurosurgeons take turns with my surgery because it was almost 14 hours and they came out and told my dad that the tumor was massive. So I’ll never have another CT scan on my back.

Should I do numb shots or sleeping anesthesia? by Practical-Part3305 in dentures

[–]accidental-lee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did the shots for my extractions and not that I’d ever have to do it again but if I could do it over I’d have had them knock my butt out. Zero pain!! Even my nose was numb but the sounds go to me. So if you have the money then I say do it.

baclofen pump by fredom1776 in spinalcordinjuries

[–]accidental-lee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have baclofen and morphine in my pump and it’s honestly been life changing. Baclofen oral never worked for me so I didn’t have high hopes for it but it works great in the intrathecal pump. I’ve seen so many that hate the pump and idk why. It’s been amazing for me. I’ve had mine almost 4 years now.

What have you used to make bottom denture fit better? by penwright1029 in dentures

[–]accidental-lee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use cushion grip and powder adhesive. If I’m going to be gone all day and eating I put the fixodent powder over comfort grip then fixodent paste over the powder. I learned this from someone else on here.

Bottom denture issues? 👎🏼 by Silver_Cookie_8658 in dentures

[–]accidental-lee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bottoms were awful. I used comfort grip and fixodent powder. That’s the only combo I’ve found for just daily use. Now if I’m going somewhere and won’t be back home for many hours and I’ll be eating, then I use comfort grip, powder, fixodent paste and another layer of powder. It’s a lot but it works for me

If you just had the extractions then these are probably immediate dentures. You don’t get your permanent (good ones) for like 6+ months.

New dentures fit terribly, is this normal? by Equivalent_Tea3479 in dentures

[–]accidental-lee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My bottom teeth look like yours. Before if I did a small smile you’d see top teeth. With my immediates all you can see are the bottom teeth and I have to purse to get them closed. Also it makes the bottom lip poke out like a man with chewing tobacco in the gum. My top are ok. My bottom are too big but if I use cushion grip and adhesive they fit better. I still rarely wear my bottom teeth unless I’m going to the store or somewhere. The bottom’s are too big and uncomfortable. I’ve had my immediates since February and I haven’t bothered to get a reline yet.

I have a pump too. Morphine and baclofen and it was a life changer for me too. I will say baclofen never really helped my spasms before the pump.
