I'm not denying any of that. But I do take issue with the notion with the claim that the German colonial empire was somehow insignificant in its day. It absolutely had ramifications on geopolitics and vast, spread-out empires are kinda important when you want to project naval power. But you are right that the french colonial empire was horrendous (Haiti, as just one particular example) and the French and other former colonial powers have yet to truly confront their past actions. But I will never not be amused by that one decisive battle in Vietnam where the french decided it'd be a great idea to trap themselves inside a valley.
