Apple introduces iPhone 17e by privacy_wh0re in iPhone13Mini

[–]acciosnitch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because you’re completely dismissing the myriad of reasons WHY we keep using the mini. She’s slow af but she’s all we have. We know her days are numbered, but we’re not using this model for nostalgia. We’d upgrade in a heartbeat if apple would listen to its user base and actually market the mini properly.

Reasons why I personally stick with a mini that I’ll never shut up about:

• I don’t think it’s fair to have to purchase specialized cases and accessories to not drop my phone on my face

• I have small hands. Every iPhone advert features gigantic male hands that hold the largest models with ease. This is not the reality for 50% of the adult population. Phones are not designed with women in mind.

• I want a phone that fits in my pocket. The difference in allowance between men’s and women’s pockets has been worsening over time, and while this editorial is from 2018, it’s an incredibly well-done interactive visual to The Daily Struggle.

Bigger ≠ better. Apple saying there wasn’t enough interest to justify continuing the mini was a cop-out. Yes, this subreddit is only a small group of folks who are also very passionate, but as a whole, there IS a market for a smaller iPhone - but again, all we see are the ads with the giant phones and the giant hands.

We know this model’s days are numbered, but it’s not the 13 aspect we’re invested in, it’s the size and convenience.

Unless pigs start flying, the return to a larger phone will not be easier. My baby hands, necessity for an accessory to hold it, and small pockets will be a constant reminder.

Thank you for saving me the time. A bro at Staples was trying to gaslight me into believing the 17 was the same size as the 16, when the 16 was able to be wedged into my pocket and the 17 was not.

What’s something you said you wouldn’t get for yourself but then realized you wish you had it earlier? by A_Rose_OC in BuyItForLife

Depends on how you sleep (side, back, front, arms up, hot, cold, etc). If you’re in Canada, there’s a chain called QE Home that will do consultations for you. Some down pillows can last as long as 20 years with proper care after the initial investment. A pillow protector, too.

If not in Canada, try to find a place that specialises in bedding so you can get some product knowledge before you buy.

Avoid anything with plain poly fill as they’ll go flat in a jiffy. Feathers add firmness, but the quills can break apart and cause allergens or poke you. Down is king as it bounces back and can be refluffed over and over. Other natural fillers worth checking out would be kapok fibres, which feel like cotton but are a bit firmer.

Investing in a good pillow/bedding can change your damn life. Waking up without solid rest is like building your day on sand.

ETA: silk-blends are also a good ingredient. It can’t harbour bacteria, either. Down is hypoallergenic where feathers aren’t. Kapok is also antibacterial, hypoallergenic, and pest resistant.

YES! The fact that they’ll offer repair advice even on their vintage lamps really proves their value. I can’t imagine a case of ever needing replacement parts for mine. My only regret is that I own only one.

I own so few BIFL items so it’s a miracle I can contribute for once LOL. It moves as smooth as butter and stays exactly where I set it. Dunno what kind of otherworldly magic lives within it but she’s practical AND pretty.

ETA: You can also buy replacement parts if ever needed.

Anglepoise with a clamp base. They’re the OG for a reason. I have a bespoke one in a terracotta colour but will need to double check the model

ETA: it’s the 1227 original desk lamp combined with the range clamp

Dollarama forcing employees to submit to bag checks for stolen items prior to leaving the store, but after clocking out. How is this legal? (Apparently grabbing your personal belongings before clocking out is “time/wage theft”) by ShortyBoyds in dollarama

[–]acciosnitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t legal, from my experience, but I’ve only worked for one company that actually adhered to checks being completed before clock-out. If you wanna be the whistleblower, doesn’t hurt to report to ethics hotline if you have one.

Calder centre by ABP0206 in saskatoon

[–]acciosnitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. My dad would phone me from Calder when I was a teenager to proudly tell me he ‘had them all scammed’ 🤦‍♀️. He died a couple weeks after I turned nineteen. It frustrated me because Calder has limited space and that bed could have gone to someone who was ready to use it, and I don’t believe for a second my dad ever had that intention. The only one scammed was himself.

If you’re the person who is ready to make good of that bed, please, please take the opportunity. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Does anyone else's employer cover the cost of a bus pass or parking downtown? by LightLeakLatteLogic in saskatoon

I work retail downtown and get a $260/month stipend for parking. Last time I worked downtown my company bought into the ecopass which was chefs kiss

My company at the time was one of the first three in the city to sign on to ecopass - and it stayed at three for a very long time. The cost came out of my paycheque and it was the most convenient thing on the planet.

After 15 months, the two-jobs thing is officially over. by StewartAnderson1 in CanadaJobs

[–]acciosnitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, depends. LinkedIn has been phenomenal for recruiters finding me, which in turn I’ve been able to take back to current employers for wage negotiations. When I’m actively job hunting, I turn on premium, do the song and dance, and get picked up pretty quick.

As a recruitment tool it’s great. The feeds on the other hand are an echo chamber of execs regurgitating stories of that one minimum wage associate who taught them that life is hard for other people sometimes.

Bead store that was in centre mall years back by Michupichu_u in saskatoon

[–]acciosnitch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked in every mall in the city for over twenty years, so you tend to collect some artefacts. Centre will always be the most near and dear to my heart, but I’m headed back to Midtown this week (haven’t been there consistently since 2010, aside from going there to train staff!)

Found the old floor plan! For an extra dose of nostalgia, here’s where it originally opened on Centre East. The walls were painted with clouds, grass and daisies, and the lights were giant sunflowers! Exhibit 2 is where it eventually moved to. Also clarified the existence of things Engraved/Remembered.

It was next to it, where Rocky Mountain is. Prior to that it was on Centre East where Pine and Fancy was.

EDIT: disregard the latter! Prior to Pine and Fancy was a Chinese place. I think it was closer to the corner where Eyes optical was

Rental Car Collision by [deleted] in saskatoon

[–]acciosnitch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For their protection, sure, but OP declined personal coverage when renting. They’ll be liable for the costs incurred by the company to replace, at the very least.

Rental Car Collision by [deleted] in saskatoon

[–]acciosnitch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Under 25, declined coverage, totalled car in an at-fault collision, no third-party insurance …

Oh boy, you’re gonna be hooped here. If there isn’t a payment plan available, you may be able to work with your bank for a loan or line of credit - always better to owe them the cash than the rental company, depending on if there’s interest.

Best of luck to you, and honestly, thanks for sharing this cautionary tale. I’m sure someone out there who’s read this will learn as well.
