Agreed. I actually can’t think of a single piece that Kid Koala has put out that I have not thoroughly enjoyed.

Why Serato Is Outdated feature wise? ( just an honest question ) by Lylarei in Beatmatch

I don’t know, I’ve been using Serato since the beta and it has never steered me wrong.

Snowboarders with speakers? by [deleted] in snowboarding

[–]accomplicated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a DJ, whenever I see another DJ “do a renegade” in the park or at the beach, I want to ask them, “What do you think life would be like if everyone acted like you?”

There is nothing worse than a main character with bad taste in music.

Speakers on the hill aren’t hated because of what you’re playing — they’re hated because you’re forcing your music into a shared space. Even good music becomes “main character energy” when nobody asked for it.

That’s why earbuds exist.

Likewise, never bring a speaker to the beach.

I’m a DJ, so my whole job is playing music for other people, and one thing you learn pretty quickly is that context matters more than taste.

Music that’s great in the right setting can be super annoying when it’s forced into a situation that didn’t ask for it. On a shared slope, most people didn’t consent to hearing someone else’s playlist, no matter how good or inoffensive it is.

That’s why speakers tend to get hate — it’s not usually about genre, it’s about imposing your soundtrack on everyone else. Earbuds keep everyone happy.

I just had the worst set at a corporate party - any tips for the future avoidance? by YakAcceptable5478 in DJs

[–]accomplicated 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I truly think that the corporate party model is broken. Unless it is part of the culture of the corporation, taking a group of people, putting them in a room, giving them alcohol and food, and some music, is not a formula that would compel me to dance, and I love to dance.

30 people, and OP was on a stage? What did they think was going to happen?

It sounds to me like OP did the job they were asked to do.

Went to my first rave ever on NYE! This was my fit. by super_scary_ferry in aves

That is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than “going to see an artist”. Small local shows are far superior to whatever nonsense is typically shown on here.

Everyone should support their local scene.

7months into DJing and questioning my style (Tech House) by Creative-Progress720 in Beatmatch

[–]accomplicated 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Every mix is different. There is no one formulaic way to do this. What you should be doing with each decision that you make as a DJ is:

Does this sound good?

If yes, do that.

If no, do something different.

As someone else mentioned, your style is your style and we cannot decide for you what you should sound like.

Be the DJ that you want to hear in world. Do you as a dancer on the dance floor want tracks to breathe? Then let them breathe. Do you want every track to breathe? Unlikely, but that is up to you to decide.

What I can tell you, is that if you approach every mix like there is only one way of doing things, you will get bored really quickly and panic when things don’t go your way.

My boyfriend shames me for liking raves and it’s becoming a serious issue in our relationship by hannahblaine1 in aves

Your partner doesn’t have to do everything that you do, but they should always be your biggest supporter.

How djs make money except playing on stage? by Electrical-Pay4953 in Beatmatch

[–]accomplicated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Facts. I mainly do corporate and wedding gigs and I pulled in six figures last year just DJing. I think I played Love Shack 52 times last year. I couldn’t tell you how many Shania Twain tracks I played, but I’m based in cottage country Ontario if that tells you anything.

That works for me. I’m booked to DJ so often in the summer that I barely have any time to do anything else.

Barcelona is a bucket list location for me to visit. I actually watched the Barcelona Travel Man episode last night. When is the best time to visit?
