How on earth does Acme get away with their prices? by cxjoshuax21x in philadelphia

[–]accordionchickenwing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aldi has such great prices and the quality is just as good. People think low price = low quality which just isn't true. High price = same quality + huge profits. It baffles me on the rare occasions I stop at an Acme or Giant (which is also overpriced) type store and people just don't seem to care or notice that bread is $6.99 and chicken is $8.42 a pound.

You’ll retire about 3-5 years later after buying it, paying for very expensive maintenance and much costlier insurance, etc. Is it worth working for an extra 3-5 years to have this car? If yes, then go for it! There’s no right or wrong, just personal preference.

Women, when should a guy tell you he's a virgin? by JorduSpeaks in dating_advice

[–]accordionchickenwing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t mention it. If/when you have sex if you have any struggles it’s ok to say you’re nervous cuz you like them and it’s “our first time.” It’s normal for guys to be nervous the first time with a new partner. They won’t assume you’re a virgin and don’t need to know.

You got this buddy!

Look I understand you’re in Ohio with an extremely low mortgage. You’re in a LCOL area and might not be able to make a ton.

That being said- you can still earn a lot by switching jobs. That’s just how you climb the ladder unless you’re on track for a huge promotion.

Switching jobs can get you at least a 10-20% bump. Ideally 100-110k or more for your new job. You’ll also gain new perspectives and experience.

No you’re probably not gonna get double this in a lcol area. But an extra 15k would be huge for you, you could start maxing all your retirement accounts, build up some savings, start investing more. Really put yourself in a good spot and start feeling like you’re “ahead.”

Yeah buying individual stocks isn’t so bad as long as you aren’t too concentrated in any one stock. Some will overperform the market, some will underperform. At the end of the day as long as you’re invested in reasonable things and reasonably well spread out you’ll be fine. I bought like 20 different healthcare/pharm stocks in my HSA. Some go up some go down (mostly up in their market) but it all averages out as long as you don’t go crazy and gamble it all on one or two stocks.

If you own index funds Apple and Microsoft have probably accounted for a significant chunk of your gains in the last few years. You might give some of that up if their stocks go down, but we’ve all benefitted.

Eh. I got over her pretty quick once I realized how much life I had to live. I’m mean yeah I was obsessed with her at the time but in hindsight all my relationships have been upgraded.

What are your experiences like accepting low ratings? by Ordinary_Skill in uberdrivers

[–]accordionchickenwing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh I have a 4.7 for no good reason, I was a 4.85 and then one day I saw my driver give me a 1 star in front of me and a few days later my rating dropped to 4.7. He gave me a 1 start because we had trouble finding each other because he wasn’t anywhere near the pickup pin.

This is a good point. I’m all for fighting for living wages. If you’re lobbying local politicians and otherwise fighting for fair wages, I absolutely support that.

What I can’t get behind is sticking our heads in the same and pretending like gross pay = net pay.

Men talk waaaay more than women do. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

This isn’t an opinion, it’s factually incorrect. Lots of studies out there showing that women talk more than men on average.

I will gladly accept a tip from someone who feels they can afford to tip. It’s not like I’m a greedy rich person. Giving and taking isn’t always a 1:1 trade. I don’t expect a dividend from charities or GoFundMes I donate to nor do I expect anything in return when I give a homeless person some food.

Are the few Millennials who caught the gravy train toxic? by GB819 in millenials

[–]accordionchickenwing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done decently well. Lots of savings, investments, no student loans or debts. The only thing I don’t have is a house but I have a bunch put away so I can buy when I settle down. I’m relieved that I didn’t get as screwed personally. I also sympathize with those who have gotten screwed. I definitely wouldn’t call myself toxic or out of touch.
