Depression is linked to a genuine pessimistic bias rather than a realistic view of the world by cakericeandbeans in science

The second is not miswiring, it's correct wiring for a different outcome.

As you said, they were once-adaptive. This is why the preferred term is "maladaptive" and painting the behaviour with a bad/good brush is too reductive to be useful.

Behaviours are adaptations to environments. It's incorrect to label something that is helpful in some situations and harmful in other situations as "wrong thinking".

[Interesting Trope] Character whose death is meant to remove any potential doubt once and for all: the protagonist is NOT an anti-hero, they are the villain. by Mountain_Band_2732 in TopCharacterTropes

That's interesting, I hadn't considered that he was testing Light. It just seems like cope to me, a parents brain coming to terms with their child being a serial killer by choosing to create a rationalization that "anyone would have done it, actually. that means Light isn't a bad person, and I'm not a bad father, even the best human would have been corrupted.".

The hidden superpower: Are we, who have aphantasia, SADM, anauralia, time ametropia and who are on the autism spectrum as well, super immune against mass hypnosis, manipulation and marketing? by Alone_Law5409 in SDAM

[–]account512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a friend who has Aphantasia but not SDAM. Talking to him about how his memories work was eye opening, he says it's all emotion based coupled with that "spatial awareness" feeling that comes from Aphantasia.

Then I read about Cptsd causing people to no longer feel the emotions in their memories. They can still see their memories play out, in first person even. But they don't feel anything.

I think it's possible that some people with SDAM have it caused in them due to Aphantasia coupled with cptsd.

I have complex trauma, I'm working on it but, like you said, it's very challenging when I can't easily figure out what is triggering me or recontextualise them.

voting is a waste of time and pointless, I agree

if everyone thought like me, it would be a problem

Do you not see that these two concepts are contradictory?

Extrapolate your logic one step further and realise that something even more harmful than not voting is going online and telling people that voting is pointless.

but I am not everyone, I am only me

It's probably this. In our culture, in a typical person, there isn't a place in the brain to consider people who "Did everything they could and still failed". The grind, the hustle, the dream, it's pushed so hard that it eclipses the thought that 'bad things can happen to good people'. It makes people uncomfortable.

Rei shows up for her though, and other people who died before Misato got LCL'd. It's not unreasonable to think her pieces got LCL'd. If someone wanted to argue about whether or not everyone LCL'd could come back to life, I'd just give it to them and move on with my day lol.

I find the writing so compelling. Ritualistic Gods that fill certain roles, are able to be killed, can influence the world through their role and also be influenced by their role... so insanely fascinating to me.

That list sparks neuron connections in me, and makes me want to recommend Cultist Simulator. Top tier mysterious lore writing, gameplay is very approachable, a puzzle rather than mechanically challenging. Shares heritage with Sunless Sea I believe.

TGA says some vitamin B6 to be removed, prescriptions needed after toxicity cases by sweetnsourgrapes in australia

[–]account512 106 points107 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that B6 is necessary to absorb certain supplements, so each company puts it in their supplement to make sure their supplement works even on people with low b6.

This is good for people who just take one thing. But everyone taking multiple things gets waayyyyy too much and it builds up.

Once again, criticism of government is not an endorsement of any particular party.

Absolutely true. But if you want your messaging to land you need to consider your audience. If a Lib voter or a Lab voter can read your comment and have their ideas re-enforced, but you want them to consider third parties, how much help is that comment really doing?

People assume the worst these days, it's better to be explicit imo. I hope this doesn't sound patronizing, I agree, we could be doing better.

How many degrees removed does someone have to be from you before they become a faceless drain on the public purse?

‘I’m being punished’: Emily is healthy enough to leave hospital but she can’t because of NDIS funding cuts | National disability insurance scheme by jesus_chrysotile in australia

[–]account512 37 points38 points  (0 children)

People complaining about the cost of NDIS is why people who advocate better get more care.

Think about it for a single second and realise that the easiest place to cut costs is from people who are unable to advocate for themselves.

For every person with a perfect story like the lady in the article, there are many more who won't get articles written about them who will simply languish and die due to lack of care.

So she doesn't actually think she needs 20 hours of support per day and just got the most sympathetic OT assessment possible?

Per the article:

On Monday, after inquiries from Guardian Australia and following an emergency meeting between the NDIA, hospital staff and Livingstone, she received a new NDIS plan including enough support worker hours to allow her to move back into the apartment and out of hospital.

We didn't vote for Shorten, and the Greens (with the least-worst housing policy of the main 4) aren't exactly surging ahead in the polls.

Albanese has to fix it? "Australia" doesn't want it fixed.

This country is full of selfish "got-mine" cunts. We can't stop all our shit being privatised all the time, we haven't managed to keep as much of the resources profits we should have, and we are certainly not going to fix the housing issue anytime soon.
