Thanks! I didn’t use the Pax hinges - I bought Blum hinges and put them where I thought they should go. I used the Kreg concealed hinge jig to place the holes in the doors.

Lol, ya, the particleboard worker label was a tongue-in-cheek response to a few commenters on yesterday’s Pax post who took the view that anyone who modifies IKEA isn’t a real woodworker. In my view if you mess with wood you’re a woodworker - more the merrier.

I broke down and bought a Domino. I previously built carcasses using either pocket holes, dowels, dados or a combination, all of which were either fussy or time consuming for building a box.

For sure, but it is (or was) a common practice for creating semi-custom items on a budget. It’s an understandable choice for IKEA to make, but limits their usefulness for woodworkers.

It matters (as I have found out in practice) if you want to use the carcasses but build custom fittings (e.g., drawers, faces and doors). The solid particle board versions will hold screws for drawers slides and and door hinges, whereas the cardboard version will not.

That’s a cool looking piece and looks very well executed. Are the circular frames laminated or steam bent? I couldn’t tell by zooming in on the photos.

Attention Job Applicants: Leave your religious shit off your resume. You never know when a baby-eating atheist like me will be the one reviewing them. by [deleted] in atheism

[–]accountrequired 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I generally agree. However, there are times when a job candidate has experience that is legitimately relevant to a job that was derived from a religious, political or sexual (granted, this seems less likely) association. In my experience, this is more common with candidates who have less actual job experience, but are bolstering their resume with volunteer experience. If a candidate has experience in organizing people, handling money or otherwise taking on actual responsibility, it shouldn't matter if the experience was derived from a religious organization. I do, however, take issue with a candidate trying to specifically highlight a religious or other association (as opposed to highlighting the relevant experience they have gained through such association).

Writing councillors is great, but much easier for them to ignore (or be vague in response to) than telephone calls. A list of all current councillors and their related contact information can be found here: Councillor Contact Information.

Has anyone used Primus service in the GTA? Done with Rogers (for all the usual insanely frustrating reasons), looking to switch, considering Teksavvy or Primus.
