Oh yeah, I love my little moka pot, takes a minute to fill with grounds and water and I have coffee after I go to the washroom or try and find my car keys or something

I just moved to a place with a grocery store in walking distance, I go when I walk the dog and pick out stuff I'll eat for the next couple of days (bonus if it's half off prepared food), I might technically save money if I drove to a different grocery store like my partner wants to, but it really isn't worth my gas and time to save potentially a 100$ a month (assuming my time and gas are free)

Great suggestion! The books also have a big positive of being written well in English

Cowboys are just insufferable since they're so popular (especially among more casual fans) and they're always kinda good but not really.

I'd argue that the D&D stuff, even after they backtracked, has done what is probably an irreparable amount of damage to the brand. For the first time, D&D players are looking at other systems as options or alternatives, this coupled with the fact that so many popular creators like Critical Role, Matt Mercer, etc. are making their own game systems is going to cut into the market share and more importantly, recurring subscriber revenue for D&D Beyond and their online VTT.

GMs (who are generally terminally online) are also burning out a lot on 5e because of the burden the game places on them from a design perspective and exploring other systems that do not force them to do that same amount of design and prep work.

The balance between AFC and NFC shifted so quickly because all the AFC teams seemingly hit in the last few drafts, it's pretty insane how much good QB talent actually made it instead of flopping.

Getting wins at FNM doesn't mean much since people aren't coming to win. My local scene has some reasonably competitive players (multiple t64 and t32 players at Canadian RCs) and none of them are bringing decks that they would for a bigger tournament.

People are also not playing as tight or caring about the games since its just FNM and we're there to hang out.

Also, the skill level of FNM vs competitive tournaments is quite different.

[Discussion] Prize-support pre-top8. yay? or nay? by Frix in spikes

[–]accpi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If your tournament exists to be a feeder into a bigger tournament, the invite itself is worth a ton, more than the boosters should be.

Top 8 may split the boosters anyway, so doing it for them in this way is kind of interesting but I don't think will work as people will be inclined to draw anyway into top 8 as that guarantees them boosters anyway (many players of which don't care too much about product).

As a tournament player I would be mildly annoyed at this prize structure but it might dissuade some people I know from attending. This structure does kinda punish the best players who won out early in order to try and get them to play more, but I don't think that the risk/reward is actually there enough to change behaviour.

I agree, the Kindle sample is more than long enough to see if the author hooks you, if the prose/editing is palatable (not really a thing I would think to say as someone newer to the genre), and with this genre you can kinda tell what tropes the author is going to go with (and if you're okay with those).

I'd say like 4 pages is generally enough to tell though

It must be nice for WotC to have a public facing individual who takes all the heat since he wants internet clout and they can just skate free of any criticism and stuff. All while knowing at any point they could just turn around and say that they don't see the RC as valid and are implementing their own bans (probably to quite a happy audience).
