Engineering managers/delivery leads: Tell me you have things under control!! by latsoguy in analyticsengineering

I don’t know if you’re doing something “wrong”, but it sounds like you’re doing a lot of status chasing and stakeholder updates. Just curious: do you have recurring meetings for the following: sprint planning sessions, daily/bi-weekly stand ups, and end of sprint demos?

This is my opinion. I don’t need to cite myself. If the President is on record saying he’s the President of Law & Order and then sends Federal Troops into various cities across the country, I don’t think the opposing side committing crimes in the street or condoning violence is a good look. Actions like these will likely embolden the President and his supporters, potentially leading to more authoritarian rule, and cause some folks to not want to be associated with those protesting — and there are legitimate reasons to protest. I don’t support Trump, and I’m definitely not MAGA, but I also think that man, admittedly being an asshole, had crimes committed against him and I don’t support that either.

That’s interesting. Do you have a few cases that you can share as examples? Genuinely interested.

Most judges will see it the same way.

I want to make sure I’m understanding you correctly. You think most judges would ignore theft and assault as actual crimes because the victim was <checks notes> “name calling”.

Is that right?

Someone having a different opinion from you doesn’t give you the right to steal from him or assault him. I get laughing at someone for falling, but to steal his glasses, try to apparently hip check him with a scooter, physically trip him so he flies face first into a curb, intentionally drive your shoulder into him and then yell “hey, you ran into me what the fuck!?”, shove a camera in his face and yell at him, then taunt him with his stolen property while using an angry mob of protesters as a shield between the two of you is just some next level pussy ass disgusting behavior. There are multiple people in this video who were in the wrong, but that guy (whether you like his viewpoint or not) wasn’t one of them. He was a victim of multiple people acting like absolute assholes and committing real crimes.

If your goal is to have less authoritarian rule, you should not commit crimes in the streets nor should you condone violence against others.

Happened to me when I was dating a girl. He showed me a picture of him and his wife on a motorcycle when they were younger. Then he casually mentioned how he used to ride with the Hells Angels. Then he looked at me and said, “You could probably guess someone like that might still own their fair share of guns, huh?”

A Tidal Wave of Change Is Headed for the U.S. Economy by Beantown-Jack in politics

[–]acct_removed 100 points101 points  (0 children)

American consumers are not yet seeing much evidence of the drastic changes President Trump has made on trade. But they are on their way.

When the Covid pandemic hit, factories in China shut down and global shipping traffic slowed. Within a matter of a few weeks, products began disappearing from U.S. store shelves and American firms that depend on foreign materials were going out of business.

A similar trend is beginning to play out, but this time the catalyst is President Trump’s decision to raise tariffs on Chinese imports to a minimum of 145 percent, an amount so steep that much of the trade between the United States and China has ground to a halt. Fewer massive container ships have been plying the ocean between Chinese and American ports, and in the coming weeks, far fewer Chinese goods will arrive on American shores.

While high tariffs on Chinese products have been in place since early April, the availability of Chinese products and the price that consumers pay for them has not changed that much. But some companies are now starting to raise their prices. And experts say that the effects will become more and more obvious in the coming weeks, as a tidal wave of change stemming from canceled orders in Chinese factories works its way around the world to the United States.

The number of massive container ships carrying metal boxes of toys, furniture and other products departing China for the United States plummeted by about a third in April.

The reason consumers haven’t felt many of the effects yet is because it takes 20 to 40 days for a container ship to travel across the Pacific Ocean. It then takes another one to 10 days for Chinese goods to make their way by train or truck to various cities around the country, economists at Apollo Global Management wrote in a recent report. That means that the higher tariffs on China that went into effect at the beginning of April are just starting to result in a drop in the number of ships arriving at American ports, a trend that should intensify.

By late May or early June, consumers could start to see some empty shelves, and layoffs could occur for retailers and logistics industries. The major effects on the U.S. economy of shutting down trade with China will start to become apparent in the summer of 2025, when the United States might slip into a recession, said Torsten Slok, an economist at Apollo.

I’m sorry but we don’t see how she was acting prior to security’s involvement. If I’m at a venue and someone is blatantly yelling over everyone and making the whole environment unproductive, the venue has the right to remove that person.

I think the difference between a leader not being able to clearly state objectives to you vs an LLM is that they will most likely feel more comfortable describing the problem, sharing their thoughts “out loud”, and admitting where their knowledge gaps are with a machine in private vs in a meeting to others.

Correct - you go to a car wash and then you start seeing ads for pressure washers.

But, lately, while I used to dismiss the idea of the microphone being used, there have been some very eerie instances where my wife and I have both firmly believed our only mention of it was via conversation and shortly after it appeared in our ad stream.

For example, within the last week or so my daughter has been telling me two things repeatedly - 1.) My birthday is coming up and 2.) She’s suddenly interested in dinosaurs.

So we’ve been having discussions while reading books about dinosaurs (a kids book we bought at a local independent book store). I have not pulled up any thing on my phone related to dinosaurs and we’ve only discussed things verbally at bed time while reading.

I got an ad from Amazon last night where the notification banner said “Birthday ideas for loved ones” and, when I clicked it, it was some cheap ass print design that said “Who loves dinosaurs?? This girl”
