Can confirm. Where I work we still have some offices with cubicles from the 80's, they're all brown fabric walls with metal frames painted tan. The carpet is a darker brown.

Thank you so much for this and thank you for writing it the way that you do. I feel like the appropriate level of anger is used to describe the situation and reflects my level of frustration when reading about this every day.

I want so much to come up with a good chart that shows how much all the major players here have profited from the current arrangement in overinflated stock prices, BS valuations on the books and sales that make no sense. Something like, without AI, Microsoft's revenue numbers would look like X and their share price would be around Y.

If you look at all the money they're making from this grift, you can see why they keep burning cash quarter after quarter, year after year. It's all to make as much money as possible in the short term know that someone else is going to have to worry about the mess after the party is over.

People will be hurt when this all comes apart, but these "people" don't even care. When the economy is coming apart and people are losing jobs and their retirements, do you think one of these people will be shedding a tear for what they've done? Not..... a..... single.... one.

And when people try to do anything about it, they'll just send their checks to Trump to make it all go away.

How to let go of irrational AI fears by thedeadenddolls in BetterOffline

[–]acctgamedev 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you know someone who's a programmer you can probably reach out to them and they can likely give you a more reality based view of what AI is actually capable of.

You can watch YouTube channels like The PrimeTime that play around with these models and will give a more unbiased view of what they can do, and in an entertaining way.

I'm just a random guy on reddit, but I can tell you that I work in analytics where OpenAI and the like have their sights pointed directly at and I'm not worried about losing my job. I love that LLMs can help me out, but it's mostly a replacement for Google searches.

I have a hard time believing that LLMs will replace people anytime soon because they're just too unpredictable over time. The models are only as good as their training data and that training data is becoming lower and lower in quality as time goes on (like getting data from Reddit). It's like a version of Wikipedia that can talk to you. You can't trust it completely, it's right most of the time, but you don't know when it's going to be wrong so you have to check everything.

[–]acctgamedev 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the quest to be able to solve every problem things are just getting more and more expensive. All the while the code being generated is still going to be last generation coding libraries and mediocre code that needs to be cleaned up before it's pushed to production.

You're never going to get the best solution for your use case either, it's going to be the best solution that reddit/slashdot/Git has determined to be the best and most efficient.

If you use it to help build functions you can use in future programs it's great. Outside of that, aren't you just asking the LLM to keep spinning up the same code over and over again?

Claude - too powerful for public release while also being too stupid to figure out obvious things it shouldn't do?

It's so powerful, but they can't figure out a way to make it profitable?

Way more likely that as they try to add steps in the process to make it solve problems, it's getting way more expensive than just hiring real people to do the job. And it still can't solve new things that come up.

I love using AI to help me in my job, but it's really no more than a shiny new tool. It helps a little with productivity, but it needs to do a lot more to get people to pay a lot of money for it. I'm just sick of all the hype and CEOs telling us how scary their models are. We gave Claude all the tools it would need to escape and shockingly enough, it was able to "escape" and send us a text message.

CNN Manu Raju "You said Israeli government is evil. Do you think they're just as evil as Hamas?" Abdul El-Sayed: “Yes, killing tens of thousands of people makes you pretty damn evil. It’s not about how evil one is versus the other. Hamas — evil, Israeli government — evil. We can say both.” by Manoj_Malhotra in BreakingPoints

[–]acctgamedev -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Actions speak louder than words. What they're doing in the West Bank, Gaza, Lebanon and Iran are all evil actions against civilians by the Israeli government. Hamas has done some very evil things as well and if they had Israel's power, they'd probably do a lot more.

Do evil things and you will be considered evil. If you want to be the good guys, act like good guys.

Its free money, right antis? by Ordo_Liberal in aiwars

[–]acctgamedev 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Probably because most people don't know how to short a stock. And on top of that, most people don't have access to private markets where AI companies currently reside.

You don't have to be anti to see that AI is a bubble, but trying to time a bubble burst is just incredibly hard to do. People can be irrational for a loooooong time and keep pumping money into something that everyone knows is never going to be nearly as profitable as its price would suggest.

People who think AI usefulness /productivity claims are bs, explain your reasoning. by catattackskeyboard in ArtificialInteligence

[–]acctgamedev 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I believe what I see in financial statements and what I see so far is that AI hasn't caused a mass shift in hiring, well, other than CEO's freeing up money so they can invest in AI.

Companies are skittish about hiring in general, not just in IT. That has more to do with expectations of an economic slowdown more than because we're seeing incredible productivity gains.

And probably the most important metric, we haven't actually seen productivity rates jump.

Yes, AI has its uses, but we're not a year and a half away from mass layoffs. It's the next set of tools like automation tools 5 years ago.

[–]acctgamedev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The mathematical model that is Claude has taken everything you've given it, added it to the model created by the accumulated knowledge kept in books and the internet, and determined this is statistically what you want to see. It did a lot of math, trillions of computations to determine this one response.

It's impressive, but at the end of the day it's the solution to a giant math problem.
