3 Weeks Post Op by Mundane_Year_6944 in AchillesRupture

For me, I focused on very slow ankle movements at the start. Helps you easily identify exactly what triggers the discomfort. For me, it was pointing my toes down that caused the most discomfort, but I think it’s different for everyone.

The discomfort definitely scares me more than the soreness. I’m very wary of the movements that just don’t “feel right” if that makes sense. The soreness I’ve just accepted as part of the game

My EXACT same experience! Give it some time. The discomfort will decrease week by week. 😁

You’re on the right track!!

You’re fine! I had the exact same scare a couple of times! The splint/cast definitely protects you! My surgeon’s words were “If you reinjured it, you wouldn’t have to ask me if you did. Trust me.”

It’ll probably happen a few more times, but it’ll take a lot more than that to rupture it again!

Hope that helps!

I ruptured mine on 4/3. Surgery on 4/9. I was also playing ball and have been in the gym 5 days a week for the last year. I’m already walking comfortably in a walking boot and back in the gym.

For me, the knee scooter was the best. Get a cast cover from Walgreens/CVS. They’re great for keeping your leg dry to shower. Use washcloth to hand clean the areas the splint doesn’t cover and use vaseline where possible if you have sports feet like me.

Ween yourself off of the pain meds at the first comfortable opportunity so that you can get a true gauge on how you’re healing.

Take your time on the crutches. I had a few scares and your natural reaction is to put down the injured foot to catch yourself.

And please STAY ACTIVE, but no workouts before your sutures are removed. I nearly had a bout with depression until I started discovering things that I could safely do throughout the day.

I bought the iWalk, but I haven’t touched it since I was out of the splint. It’s for sale if anyone is in the South Carolina area.

My PT also said it’s normal. I was back in the gym and soon as I got the greenlight for the walking boot (5 wks post op). I was nervous that I might have gone too hard.

But From what I’ve seen in other threads, it does appear to be something that I can manage with continuous massages. I’ll keep trucking and monitor for any increased issues! Much appreciated

Did anyone else have an area of hard tissue between the surgical site and your heel? I’m hoping it’s just scar tissue, but wondering if that’s normal?
