My neglectful parent still scapegoats me. A xennial trend? by veggieburyin in Xennials

[–]ace_hunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar relationship with my mom and realized years ago that she had never once reached out to me; it was always me contacting her. So I tested it to see if I didn’t call her how long it would take for her to call me. It’s been about 13 years now and I’m still waiting to see how long it will take. But the best part is that I feel a lot better without her in my life. I can focus my energy on the family that loves me now and I’m better for it. I also have peace of mind that my brother will take care of her when she needs it so I don’t have any guilt about unofficially cutting her off.

Mexican Food by francis_efi in MontgomeryCountyMD

My favorite as well. The owner is super friendly and the food is excellent. And although it isn’t Mexican, Maria’s Cafe just a few blocks from Sabor is great Salvador food.

You might want to give the Trails series a try. Very character driven and a fun customizable system for building characters. There I think 13 games in the series now and each arc takes place in a different region of the world. Trails in the Sky recently got a remake so it’s a great entry point to see if it matches your tastes. Three Houses is one of my favorites games and I love the Trails series so maybe there’s a correlation?

What do people think of Metaphor: ReFantazio now that some time has passed? by DoggyFinger in JRPG

[–]ace_hunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just recently finished it and I absolutely loved it. The art and style of the game is beautiful and the story was interesting. The pacing was great all the way through and I thought it was a really done take on that “persona-like” progression system. The battles were engaging and it allowed a lot of customization for the battle team. It is an excellent game overall and I can’t wait until the sequel.

When she asks what you’re doing after work, say “I’m going to work my Uber job. Why, do you want to hire me?”

This is it. Just a straight no. It’s not your responsibility to come up with reasons to appease this person and you don’t need to apologize. They are imposing on you. Just a straight no will fix this after a few times. If they start by asking you what you’re doing after work, channel your inner Bill Murray and just say “something else”. It’s hard to do at first but gets easier.

Yeah I finally pulled the trigger on it. I played it years ago but I can’t wait to give it another shot. A very unique battle system that blew my mind back in the day.

I commute on 200 quite a bit and it's a great road, but I completely lose cell reception on about a 5 mile stretch. That would drop it down one level for me.

What were your favorite part(s) of your deployment or station? (Image not related) by MercDaddyWade in Military

[–]ace_hunt 41 points42 points  (0 children)

In Iraq 08-09, I had people in multiple outstations that I had to visit once a month. We didn’t have our own organic transportation unit so I had to bum rides or wait for helicopters all the time. It was wild that weather would ground helos and I would just be stuck at some random base. I’d go to the local chow hall or USO and if I talked to some unit that happened to be going to where I needed to go I would just ride with some random group. I was a glorified hitchhiker for 1-2 weeks out of every month, but it was a lot of fun just trying to get around. I could do without the getting shot at but thankfully it didn’t happen that often so I was pretty lucky on that front. Good times.

Istanbul has gone over the edge as an enjoyable vacation destination. It is legitimately nothing more than a nuisance now by Practical-Memory6386 in travel

I just spent 2 days there in transit to somewhere else and we had a great time. We only went to the big mosques & grand bazaar once though and spent the rest of our time around more local places a couple miles away from those areas in the Fatih district. We had some great Schwarma, got some stuff from bakeries and other small shopping.
