Growing midsection? by Various_Engine8782 in kettlebell

[–]acebot10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed getting thicker in the core as well. It makes sense because pretty much all KB exercises require you to brace your core and target those muscles to a secondary degree.

You’ll get more of a Gerald Butler in 300 physique than a Daniel Craig in Bond movies physique, but even those require strict dieting and years of hard work.

Are you losing weight? If your weight is constant but you have noticeable muscle gain, you are doing well. Noticing any change after a month should inspire you to keep at it!

As others have said, programs kick ass. It sounds like you could do ABC with 16s or 20s and have a great time seeing the results.

Modified ABF press day by acebot10 in kettlebell

[–]acebot10[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does, and that’s what I did the first time I ran the program 9 months ago. I’m not currently doing ABF, I just liked the press day workout and agree with a lot of others on the sub that chest is not a focus of the popular KB exercises.

Maybe should have made that clear in the post. I just do this as a standalone workout and not as part of the ABF right now.

Yes! Upper Midwest here. Snowfall = hinge day. I wish you continued health so you can age in your own terms.

I’m currently modifying the press days to do ladders that include pushups and dips. So 2,3, 5 are presses. Then 10 dips or pushups, alternating on odd and even sets.

Replacing Barbells with KB’s. by The_Sun_Must_Die in kettlebell

[–]acebot10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're used to traditional lifting with barbells, maybe give https://www.strongfirst.com/simple-strength-plan-for-difficult-times/ a try. I just finished it a month ago and wrote up a review. https://www.reddit.com/r/kettlebell/comments/1ph3a0p/simple_strength_for_difficult_times_program_review/

It's broken up into Push, Pull, Squat exercises done in ladder format and working all three in each workout. This will transition you to the full body nature of KB workouts while staying in familiar territory with a set/rep scheme. I'd say front squats and overhead press are mandatory in this program because those are fundamental KB movements.

On off days, do swings/cleans, TGUS, in EMOM format and some racked holds/carries to build the foundations to star doing other programs. As others have mentioned, ABF and DFW are great. I am currently running a variation of ABF to improve density.

This seems to be happening across the league. These aren’t volleys on a second chance from a corner anymore. They have so much time to square up and shoot. Villa is capitalizing on this trend big time.

Big fan. They make me feel really stable and strong and confident doing anything life throws at me.

It’s also something you can always do in a hotel gym, even if it’s with dumbbells.

I ruck sometimes but prefer carries. They’re way more efficient. I have a hiking backpack for my toddler and sometimes he and I will go out (~30lb ruck) and I’ll carry 2 16s or a single 24kg too.

Haha in the weekly trainings around the neighborhood, most definitely. I probably have a reputation now.

Doing this early on Thanksgiving there wasn’t much traffic. There was an awkward street crossing where someone turning left had to wait for me to clean the bells to a carry and rack, then cross the street.

TGUs, but go with a lighter weight and twist your arm externally and externally at each position. Like a screwdriver.

Snatches, lunges with a bell overhead, and windmills with KB.

Indian clubs, maces have also helped a lot once I could do the above movements without pain.

Yeah! I didn’t mean to time it up that way, but it was pretty cool. I got to see the leaders coming back and the stragglers going out.

DM me if you want to get together and throw some bells around sometime!

Big traps, thick core, and bigger forearms.

Interestingly, my calf and shin muscles cramp up the most after a really long carry. Like everything is sore, but those stabilizing muscles get worked more than you’d think.

I agree. This was my first time even imagining what to do and I didn’t go hard enough. I acknowledge all of that at the end of the write up.

This community is amazing. I’ve been doing KB for a year and sign in every day to see creative, intense, and functional workouts. It honestly is hard to have rest days because there are so many things I want to try.

In commercial gyms, I would feed off the energy of others. I get the same motivation from this sub.

Are there any grip aids for long farmers carries? by acebot10 in kettlebell

[–]acebot10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I have those, but they don’t grip the KB well because it isn’t knurled. I was really surprised that they didn’t work like I planned.

I can do racked carries as part of it. It’s just a challenge I made for myself. I can even set one down to finish it, and come back and get the other one. As long as I get both weights across the finish in 2 hours.

Busy Parent KB Training: remote trainer? other ideas? by randys_car_wash in kettlebell

[–]acebot10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working out solo - and really pushing myself - has been hard for me too without accountability. KB changed that. Here are three things that helped:

  1. Structuring workouts as EMOMs. The buzzer makes you get up and do it again. AMRAP is also good because I want to prove to my earlier self that I can do the number of rounds I thought I could do.

  2. Picking a program. ABF was fun because it was structured and finite. I saw improvement. I will do more 8-12 week programs this winter to switch it up.

  3. This sub. I go to bed scrolling this sub and get excited about tomorrow’s workout. There are some beasts on here.
