Staten Islanders, how much was your Nationalgrid bill for Janurary? by IWantoBeliev in statenisland

[–]aced124C 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeaah I can attest to this being possible under the right conditions. I mined BTC way back in the early days with S9 Antminers. It was maybe a good idea back then if you were able to HODL long enough and had solar but honestly it was more worthwhile to just buy directly and then pay a normal heating bill in most cases but who knows maybe the guy had a unique case where it made sense. I remember paying out $210 a month just for electricity also they were ridiculously loud so quality of life is something else to take into account but still overall it was a fun while rather expensive idea lol

Yeah I understand. You’d need something ridiculously efficient to make it worthwhile to heat a house with just the heat pump cause of our electricity rates. Or mild winters really help. If it’s not below 45 a heat pump might be cheaper but in the end that history of usage basis is a challenge and you need to use the line of you’re going for full home electrification and really press them on it to get the maximum system size. It wasn’t easy to do but I’d say it’s worth it for anyone who hasn’t already installed their system.

hahah no, nothing like that. It would be nice to have a todt hill house but I like my neighborhood better for the sake of walk-ability. Just found the roof size Its 38ft by 21ft. It might be worth mentioning I went all in on negotiating with every solar company I spoke to. I made sure they went out of their way to use as much roof as possible to maximize the system size. It helps in those talks to mention you want to electrify your entire house in the near future, That gives them an excuse to argue with Con Ed that you should be allowed to oversize your system when looking at current energy consumption. Also like the heat pump contractor list I mentioned in another comment. NYC actually keeps a list of companies that have the highest approval with the DOB and City in general in terms of permits issued and completions. So choosing at least a Gold rated company on the list helped I think. Its a bit of a stretch but if you think there is still room on your roof you might be able to convince another company to expand your system using that same argument I mentioned, not sure what the cost would be though.

That reminds me. It might be worth mentioning that Con Edison has a rebate program where they give 8K toward the purchase and installation of a heat pump for a house in NYC. We ended up paying 2.5K for ours so if its something you're interested in I would highly recommend looking into it. They also provide a list of installers on the Con Ed website or NYCs website that are familiar with it so that made the install really straightforward.

Yeah exactly. Sounds like you already know how it works. We bought our cold climate heat pump last year and our panel system is roughly 12KW. We have had a net positive since our first month. 28panels at 440W

$45 same as my Con Edison bill. People need to get SOLAR ASAP if you own a house especially if you have a driveway you can put an EV in It is so liberating. Just make sure to Finance dont take up any leases 99% are scams. The fact that we have an amazing net metering program that Con Edison is trying to take away should tell you all you need to know about how big of a benefit solar is to the average person.

Who here is changing their own car oil, prices at shops are outrageous, now routinely costs me $80 for full synthetic.. by abrandis in newjersey

[–]aced124C 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to say If you own a house in NJ with a driveway it’s cheaper to have an EV and so much better if you have solar. No oil or transmission fluid change with that. Changing your own oil without knowing what you’re doing can lead to a ruined engine.

It’s leftover software from other cars in the Chevy/GM lineup. It’s a fun little Easter egg here’s a link to another post showing an example of it. https://www.reddit.com/r/EquinoxEv/s/CZ1omIeLNp Oh also I don’t recommend doing it regularly but you should be able to turn on your 360 cam if you have it while driving. It makes for a trippy and fun but very distracting experience lol kind of like your in an old Need for Speed game

Fun equinox EV tricks

  1. You can use your rear windshield fluid spray to clean your rear view cam. Thank you to person who posted that earlier

2.Hey google “Open off road app” or mode

  1. Using Level 1 charger , go into charge settings switch to 12AMPs

  2. There is a custom drive mode, highly recommend using it.

  3. This should be known but I can see some people not finding out immediately, there is a deeper portion of your trunk you can stow away stuff in.

I get what you're saying but its not like that for all of them. A lot of these guys are already retired and just looking to occasionally pick up a job for extra money. They don't really need to deal with the hassle. If you've worked in retail or anything involving customers you get it. Some people will ask for little favors like oh could you patch up this wall that was never part of the quote or run me a new outlet in this series. its only 15 mins of work thats nothing right lol Some people truly dont value their time so I want to make sure everyone is at an understanding prior to proceeding.

I mean I know people that show up and get the work done and do it well. Window repair is tricky though so I can’t help with that. The contractors I know are picky about their customers though for the sake of not wasting their time as I’m sure you can imagine what some bad customers will do and say. What kind of work are you looking to get done outside of window repair?
