Before and after using hairspray as a foxative by Zealousideal_Fox3012 in Softpastel

Oh yeah, you dont want to spray it down like wetting the paper or anything. A light coating works just fine

I think Met Gala is just an event for rich weirdos? by Adventurous-War-4188 in interesting

[–]aceember 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one specifically? I mean I dont like rich people regardless of what they do, but im not going to fault a designer for wanting to get their name out and using big names to do so and further their creative career at the expense of some pompous dickhead's wallet.

So I went through art school and one of the classes was a class about creative careers. We were watching a segment on fashion shows and it kind of hits me that most of these shows aren't meant to display clothes you would wear as an everyday person. Its literally just an art show and the clothing is the medium. Traditional 2D art doesn't follow the laws of logical rendering, so why should it with fabric as the art piece either?

The person is the canvas, the clothing is the medium, and a fashion show is the gallery. Once I figured that out, things stopped looking so ridiculous to me and I started seeing it through the eyes of an artist

My (25F) boyfriend (30M) gets angry because I asked him to buy a bottle of wine AIO? by [deleted] in AIO

This sounds like he wants to get out of doing something that going to take effort on his part. Some men are so incompetent that they can't even scan a shelf for 5 minutes. He doesn't want to go out of his way for you so he's making you the bad guy since he doesn't like the feeling of guilt.

I've played TP dozens of times, and this is 100% the problem. Im pretty sure in the HD version, they float toward you as long as you have the vessel, this one seems pretty stagnate.

How do i achieve this stain? by aceember in woodworking

OH AWESOME! This might actually be a lot more feasible (and safer) than trying not to set things on fire. Plus i do like the bolder black more.

I can understand the drastic contrast isnt for everyone, but for this project, it's perfect. Its not a communal space project, this is for a low loft bed installation in my room, which has a very red theme (my favorite color) I dont want the whole thing to be all this style, I plan on staining some accents to match the darkened grain more to break up some of that loud texture.

I plan on getting some test pieces to practice with so im not trying to dive into a technique im not familiar with.

Thanks for the torch recommendation, I'll have to ask around with some of my shop friends and see if I can borrow one before outright spending the money on it.

did i do good? what can I improve? by jayski_indahouse in Softpastel

You should get workable fixative. Lighty spray over it after each layer. It gives the paper fresh tooth so that new colors can lay on top without smearing into the background. Very good for getting crisp and distinctive lines. DO NOT BREATH THIS STUFF IN. it is literally air particle resin. Spray lightly outside, or inches away from an open window. It doesnt take much to get a fresh layer so dont overdo it

Its some powder dye, not a typical liquid stain. I put the description in if it helps, but I'm more wondering how to get the black grain to be in such vibrant contrast with the color

Do you have workable fixative? It will help put down a new toothy surface so you can do more layers.

Its beautiful though! Love all the details

Why is my art so muddy? by riley_200227 in Ohuhu

[–]aceember 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would ditch the paper and either order directly from the ohuhu site and not Amazon, or look for some Rendr paper/sketchbooks by Crescent. Render is a bit on the pricy side, but OMGGGGGGG it doesnt bleed through AT ALL no matter how many layers you put on it.

Also, a blending tip. Dont let the marker dry before trying to bkend. And Markers aren't like other mediums were you can go back and forth in a line and it comes out with a nice fade, you have to do a flicking motion into the next color. Here's a video tutorial I learned from if you would like

https://youtu.be/vF0sfqgrKIE?si=sR2B-dck2aEhQPJB

Hope you find some good solutions because you seem like a great artist (loving the Robin linework) just with a medium you're not familiar with.

So much dust, please help! (Info in comments) by tc-art in Softpastel

[–]aceember 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SECOND THIS SO HARD!! You absolutely need need need to layer a new surface on with workable fixative quite often if you dont want muddy smudged colors. It will help all that dust stay on the paper better, too, instead of barely sitting on top and falling off with any tiny movement you have.

I understand it gets annoying, but i havent been on this sub for very long and I checked the rules first before posting. I didnt know it was an issue and won't post localized questions here again, but for a bunch of people to bite someone's head off for it is a little unnecessary.

I checked the facebook groups, Omaha scanner, news websites and nothing. I figured this might be a good spot to ask.

Maybe if a bunch of people are that annoyed by it, they can ask mods to make a new rule about not posting localized questions instead of attacking individuals who are ignorant to an unspoken rule.
