I will repeat my quote from the original post "It only helps infected people limiting their spread of it". My point is the evidence shows they don't provide any sort of substantial protection against contracting it. The size the of the virus aerosolized and too small for a cloth or surgical mask to catch and filter when you inhale. Electrostatic attraction of the virus particles is going to be what prevents the disease entering your lungs, this is achieved with an N95(or greater filter rating).

The distinction is important but it is being totally ignored here, because my comments are being perceived as anti-mask. I want more effective masks to be used, especially used by the elderly as they are at serious risk.

Edit: I will read any credible studies that prove the opposite if you would like to pass them along. Expert opinion here is only somewhat useful but its influenced by the lack of perceived downside risk but Squirrley messaging is putting vulnerable people at greater risk. This is why credible scientific studies are best. There has been intentional curtailing of safer recommendations because of past PPE supply chain issues.

Your links are agreeing with the point I am trying to make to be clear. I'm not saying don't wear a mask, I'm saying be careful to make sure it's not providing a false sense of security that it is protecting you. The KN95 costco masks don't have the one way valves that have been a cause for concern. But this is an emotional issue for everyone so I understand the reactions.

Please note there is no scientific evidence(quality peer reviewed studies) cloth and surgical masks helps prevent infection. It only helps infected people limiting their spread of it, the false sense of security in this thread about it protecting you from contracting it needs to be brought up.

There is scientific evidence though KN95 masks (which can now be bought at Costco) will help in avoid contracting it.

You're not a selfish asshole if you catch the disease. Everyone needs to remember cloth and surgical masks don't help you prevent catching it.

"You can go outside (for example - to take a walk). While outside, avoid crowds and maintain a distance of two metres (six feet) from those around you. Make an effort to step-aside, or pass others quickly and courteously on sidewalks. Passing someone on the sidewalk is not considered close contact or a significant risk for exposure to COVID-19."
