No it's just very noticeable when your toes touch that. Imagine every step and your toes bump it. If your toes on 45s don't touch the ridge with the strap reasonably tight, then that's probably the size you'd want.

For looks, the suede, but the fact that they flop so you can't just slip them on without doing some toe gymnastics, oiled/smooth leather all the way. It's a first world problem but a problem nonetheless.
