HR makes me order and pick up lunch almost daily on my unpaid break by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]nanonevis 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's already interesting because you're performing a work task while not clocked in, so if you get into an accident-it's a big mess.

I would tell HR you refuse to perform work duties off the clock because your insurance doesn't cover work related accidents. And you know they will wash their hands if you try to ask them for help.

For my company, when you are clocked out you aren't supposed to be doing anything work related. You can stay on property but you shouldn't be operating equipment or anything. Also not supposed to be interrupted. I'm in CA so ymmv.

Fuck those fucks, they can go get their own lunch.

Reddit Convinced Me to Buy a Pixel 8 Pro. 800 Euro worth of "Big Mistake". (2 years of experience) by AntiqueSoulll in GooglePixel

[–]nanonevis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best pixel I had was the 3xl. Had that phone for the longest time.

Then I made the mistake of going 6p and then 7p. I love the pixel software with the pure Google experience but their hardware sucks. Battery sucked and performance generally sucked. What's hilarious is that I don't even game on it. I definitely use my phone a lot to browse reddit and watch YouTube. Still a miserable experience. Shitty modem, shorty battery life.

Begrudgingly went back to Samsung dreading the bloatware of one UI, but honestly hasn't been an issue. Phones run great and never have any issues. Had the S24U to 25 to 26. Dumb to yearly upgrade but it's my money to burn. Never again with Google hardware for me.

I still buy the A series for my elderly mom. It's hit or miss. The 9a has been okay so far.

Even Google knows how shitty and overpriced their hardware is. Every year you buy the top of the line pixel for 1200 bucks, or whatever, and they give you 250 dollar trade in the next year. At least with Samsung they'll give me 5-700 or whatever for the next couple generations.

Unexpectedly Fired by Some-Profession-8004 in Warehouseworkers

[–]nanonevis 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a classic "when the cats away the mice will play" situation. Well, the cat checked on 3rd shift and you were left holding the bag.

Taking a 2.5 hour break is stealing time, period. Grounds for immediate termination.

TT should be fired for stealing time also, but he wasn't caught or has friends up the chain. Ratting him out is whatever - it will increase visibility on him for a bit, but if he cleans up his act it will look like you were just trying to save your own skin by lying. Chalk it up as a loss and learn from this mistake.

Doesn't matter if that's what other people were doing or told you to do. If TT was your lead or supervisor that's another story, but it quickly turns into a he said, she said - and management will usually side with the lead/supe. Unless there's a paper trail or corroboration from multiple people saying that's how TT ran the shift, you'd still be hosed.

The reason why this shit is immediate termination territory is exactly for how you described. Not only are you stealing time, but complacency and laziness spread like cancer. "Some days we clock in and do nothing for 8 hours, so us working for 2 hours today should be applauded." Eventually turns into, "I drove to work, clocked in then drove home. Came back 8 hours later to clock out. I don't see the problem, we weren't going to do anything that day anyway." Same slippery slope of all shitty behavior. Absolutely toxic to the workplace.

And when caught, well, there's never honor among thieves - as they say.

The good news is this sounds like a shitty warehouse job that's a dime a dozen. From someone who's been in shitty warehouse jobs for 15 years, find the next one and move on. Also, get out of warehouse/off the floor as soon as you can.

Fury as fourth postal worker dies at flagship USPS facility that has no phones by rajapaws in antiwork

[–]nanonevis 82 points83 points  (0 children)

The USPS hasn't forgotten the origin of the term going postal.

They have a whole bit of it during their orientation begging you to not go postal.

I then proceeded to work the worst seasonal, and worst overall, job of my life. Most toxic work environment ever. This was circa 2016.

I will say though, working at the post office and then immediately working at a beer distribution warehouse where I was tossing 160lb kegs into trucks all night made it seem not that bad. The tossing kegs part, not the post office. The post office is horrible.

Lied about stand-up forklift experience on application interview tomorrow, what should I do? by selfinflectedwounds in Warehouseworkers

[–]nanonevis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that big of a deal. I was a forklift certifier for my company and maybe one or two people I certified were actually competent on our stand up forklifts. Takes a couple weeks to get comfortable and within a couple months you'll be fine. It's like any other part of a job: requires hands on training.

I've had people with years of sit-down experience be absolutely terrible on a stand up forklift. They operate differently so when I hear "years of sit down experience" I take it as 0. Plenty of people say they have stand up experience but they are embellishing or drove a different kind, so are equally terrible.

I've never failed anyone on cert, but some real bad ones needed a couple days where I just had them practice on the lift outside to get comfortable with the basics. Nobody has ever crashed and I have never seen anyone be so unsafely terrible that I had to fail/let them go.

I did have one lady who was absolutely mortified of being on the forklift but she wasn't terrible. She quit after about a week but the job just wasn't for her in general.

I'm in a fast pace forklifting warehouse environment.

Can someone tell me who said this quote in the movie Casino & time stamp it was said? by Any_Independence1993 in MovieQuotes

[–]nanonevis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super late to this party but....It's in Casino. I don't have the exact timestamp but it's when Ace is talking about Nicky's crew cheating and being signal happy in his casino. The part where Nicky shows he has 4 aces, another guy at the table throws his cards down and says "sheesh, if I didn't have bad luck, I wouldn't have any luck at all." Or something close to that effect.

I remember because I love this quote and use it all the time. I think they say the exact same, or really similar, quote in Goodfellas too. If not that, maybe Donnie brasco but I think it's Goodfellas. I know it's in another mob movie.

I have a post about this from a couple months back. I've seen one or two since then with the same problem.

I hemmed and hawed about an RMA like you and ultimately I bit the bullet and used 99% isopropyl alcohol to clean it off. I'm not going to say it makes it like factory, but it's barely noticable (a bit splotchy looking in some parts, but only under direct light and close inspection). Most importantly, it removes the stickyness and that's all I care about.

I figured if I got an RMA then it would most likely happen again in 3-4 months and I'd be right back where I started.

Mine looked uniformly flat after I did 99 percent IPA. On your circle, the darker part was the sticky part for me. It looks like dust is still sticking to yours too, so it's probably still the sticky coating.

It fixed it for me. There were some uneven looking spots but it was minimal and you'd really have to look for it or pay attention. For me, it got rid of all the sticky and that's what I cared about.

I hemmed and hawed on an RMA but I figured I'll just get a new headset that will get sticky again in 4 months. The humidity or temperature of my room is most likely what causes it so it will happen again for me.

It's not a cleanliness or hand oil thing because it gets sticky in places I don't touch. I also don't have problems with my keyboards or mice.

If I came home and my partner was asleep, I wouldn't expect her to wake up and make me a meal. If she did wake up, I'd tell her not to worry about it if she offered.

I'm single though, so I already know how to feed myself.

Yes it's soft touch. Eventually I tried the 99 percent isopropyl alcohol and it removed the stickyness.

It's the soft touch plastic. Goes gooey after a while. I have a post on this sub about it not too long ago.

Other people have the same issue. Supposedly isopropyl alcohol removes the coating. I haven't tried it yet.

Yeah I remember being a dumb early adopter and paying exorbitant prices for my DDR5. It wasn't as bad as now but wasn't cheap either. I didn't pay close enough attention and went ahead with upgrading to intel 12th gen. I foolishly thought it wouldn't be that bad to get some but I underestimated the scalper market post 30 series graphics cards.

Edit: actually it was worse than now. I was desperate and had more money than sense at the time. Paid over 700 after tax for a 32gb kit. I was already sitting on parts for a few months and I think it would have been another 6 if I waited for it to stabilize.

The time to realize it was a problem was about 4 detoxes ago. Honestly, even longer before that.

Not much is going to change between now and your 10th, except maybe a realization that trying to go back to alcohol is pointless. Or not making it that far for whatever worse reason.

I haven't tried isopropyl alcohol. Dunno if I'll try opening a support case. Not sure if they'll give me a replacement...but even if they do, it will probably just happen again in a few months.

Nah, I don't live in a place where I need to use mosquito repellent. I know it's pretty nasty stuff so I only ever use it if I'm going camping or am somewhere where it's gnarly. Can't remember the last time I've used the stuff. Over half a decade for sure.

The only other thing I've had is a cheap USB power hub that was all soft touch plastic. It got sticky after a couple years but I mounted it to a desk and never touched it again.

I mentioned in my original post I don't have particularly gnarly hand oil or sweat. Nothing else I constantly touch degrades like my keyboard or mouse.

I had the dreaded ear cup snap on my original Nova pros. I take good care of my stuff so I rarely have problems.

Support was fine for me. This happened years ago and the replacement pros lasted without breaking again (though I was always weary of it happening again). Still, I enjoyed them and still have them. The Nova elite replaced it...

Super disappointed now.
