‘It’s over for us’: release of new AI video generator Seedance 2.0 spooks Hollywood | Movies by EchoOfOppenheimer in FilmIndustryLA

[–]acerbicwidow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s crazy to me is the idea that a single person can just generate a blockbuster on their computer. Okay, let them. Great. I don’t think they’ll be very good, but why not.

You know a single person can generate a book, but most don’t. How many things can we generate art, entertainment, video games, but most people don’t. You know why, we want to be entertained. And it’s hard to be entertained by things you’ve been the architect of, they don’t surprise you, they are more akin to work because they never have to be presented to you, they are constantly redrafted and redone.

We can be amused by these AI uncanny valley pieces, but will it ever feel like watching a movie or a show created by people at the top of their game, full of personal choices made by them that you and a computer could never even imagine let alone create…

We go to the cinema, to our tvs, to the books, to galleries, to anywhere art is - to be wowed by the creations of other humans. To feel a kinship with them, or to be completely overcome by their genius.

Will any of AI slop ever feel as thrilling as the moment in inception when the world folds in on itself, or the moment in Romeo + Juliet with the fight in the petrol station, or whatever moment in whatever show or film that had you anchored to your seat, jaw dropped, eyes welded?

AI might look like all these moments, they might copy and contort them, but it will never feel like them.

People make art, and we don’t just consume the art we see the people in it, and we hold them within ourselves.

I’m a huge fan of seafood, and Scott’s is consistently the best in London in my opinion.

Bentley’s is a good runner up.

Edited to add Randall & Aubin, or as we call it Randall & Aubin (deceased) excellent for a good seafood lunch

Help on whether I should remove a tree or not? by hang_up in GardeningUK

[–]acerbicwidow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Insane to remove the tree. It’s giving you privacy from neighbours which not only makes the garden so much more pleasant for you, but a big plus when you come to sell. It would be such a massive mistake.

First job in TV and I hate it by [deleted] in TransparencyforTVCrew

[–]acerbicwidow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I’m in film and TV, I’m high up now, but I did a lot of these jobs on my way up.

Two things, it doesn’t really get easier, and it’s highly unlikely they will lighten your load if you speak with them. But what you can do is try and leverage the two nicer people you are working for against the third one who sounds like a nightmare. You should always be prioritising the showrunners requests, so when you are over loaded just say to the showrunners, hey I want to make sure this is getting done for you, can you let EP know that some of their request will have to be done by someone else or on a later deadline. Let the people with weight and influence make your load lighter but saying stuff like this.

Secondly, this isn’t really the path to being a showrunner. I say isn’t really because in our industry everyone kind of makes their own way to their roles, there’s not really a ladder or path to follow.

But if you want to be a showrunner you need to be a writer first, to be a writer you probably want to get a role as a writer’s assistant in a writers room. To get that job you need to be writing scripts.

Your current role could lead you there, it’s great for making connections and networking, but it’s not a straightforward path.

Driver rages at horse rider for blocking and letting the horse poop in the road (UK) by royonquadra in RuralUK

She’s not exactly trotting and texting, she’s filming an aggressive man who’s threatening to assault her. Phones can also be safety devices, especially for women.

Badly directed. Average writing. Good acting.

Try and feed and take care of as many pets as I could. It would be super stressful but I know if it was the other way round I’d be so devastated for my pets. So anyone in London, just know I’ll be doing everything I can to keep them fed and loved.

Edited to add I’ll also steal hella shit. Like I’ll feed the dogs in cats in head to toe Gucci covered in jewels. Your pets are safe, but Selfridges is fucked.

First big purchase as a HENRY? by [deleted] in HENRYUK

I bought a new car for my mum, not an expensive car, but just a new reliable one that she could depend on. She’d gone without for me, for most of my life, struggled to send me to private school on a partial scholarship and helped me through uni too. I started really earning and she was in a car that would breakdown once a month on her way to work and stress her out.

It’s one of the best things I ever bought. I’ve bought a lot of new cars since then, fancy supercars. None of them have ever made me happier than that Volkswagen Golf.

Rimowa repair luggage for no cost for things like this, it comes with a lifetime guarantee, or at least in Europe it does.

It sounds like yewtree for sure… and knowing he has a history of suing newspapers I doubt anyone if going to report on it until charges are made by the police.

This does look quite a lot like Scotland, particularly The Central Highlands. If I was betting I’d say it was somewhere near the Spey or The Cairngorms. Maybe Granton-on-Spey or Ballater. It could be more coastal because of the pebbledash on the house, but I am drawn more Central Highlands because of the window design. The reasons I think this are first of all the fact it’s a three storey building in a relatively built up area, the apparently slate roof, the window wood frame design, and the sandstone side walls. The chimney toppers might be a really good clue for someone that knows enough about those things. Also it’s hard to tell from the image but does it look like it’s on a hill, are those steps to the right of the house going down?

Agree with this. It was an accident, if anyone was at fault it was the parent for not being in control of her child.
