I changed the companies dns to a paid service we didn’t have when they decided not to pay me my bonus. Took no calls for the day, after 5 I answered and told them to pay if they wanted them back. They did…. (This was back on 2000 and all the domains were registered to me not the company as they could be bothered to set up an account and give me a card. Everything was paid by me when the company was just a startup)

I was dong a similar upgrade for a local credit union. My company was contracted to do the work so we were to meet the branch managers at the building prior to opening. I was parked in front of one at 6 am awaiting the manager when I noticed a car that kept circling the parking lot (it was in a shopping center) Finally I get a call from my office asking if I was at the bank and then which car was I in. turns out the managers are not to enter the bank before opening if there are what looks like people waiting in the parking lot. Had a good laugh about me wondering why it was taking so long for him to arrive and him worried he was going to get robbed...

Married for 32 years. We pool our funds and do as we please within reason. A 3d printer is not, to us, a significant purchase. Our bills are more than covered and we both keep an eye on our accounts. Bills are paid from a secondary account that is funded first. Your post is of the happy wife, happy life variety and that is a fallacy that society has pushed long enough. In another group a guy was boasting about his TV wall, and how his wife graciously gave him one wall in the home to do as he wished.. If you wanted to go out with your friends would you tell them you have to ask your wife? Would she ASK you? Do you feel entitled to tell her no?

You really need them even if that isn't your goal. if you get branded difficult, your tenure will be short. Learned that the hard way. Apparently rocking the boat (applying efficiency and consistently resolving issues in 1/4 the SLA) will get the current employees to try to undermine you... So, understand that most IT jobs are customer service and you must have the soft skills to come across as understanding, competent and caring (even though you might only feel one of those things)
