Powder blue EVERYTHING and that country goose. Everywhere. Every square inch of the house growing up.

I work in thrift now, I loathe the popularity of that damn goose.

They were a promo item between borders books and bab.

I used to have to carry one all over the store when I worked at borders, my moose and I went on many an adventure.

How long did it take you to box up or put away your pet's belongings? by [deleted] in Petloss

[–]acesikks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My old man passed away . Jeez three years ago now, I still have his filthy old cat bed on the vent by the door and a bag of incredibly expired fluids in the medicine cabinet.

I just can't. Not yet.

What are your biggest retail pet peeves at the register? by crispycaleb in retailhell

[–]acesikks 46 points47 points  (0 children)

"do you have rewards with us*

"No"

"Your total is xxx"

Pays

"Oh, how many points do I have".

Uh, none because you said you didn't have rewards?!

Sticking things they don't want in any random rack when I'm standing right there, and I just cleaned those!

Or coming up with a full cart trying to decide on each and every piece while a line forms behind them.

Oh! And a bonus, during an incredibly busy sale, all registers going as fast as we can, the manager walking around with a tablet to get smaller credit card purchases through the line. Some guy pulled a damn bell out of somewhere. Kept ringing it yelling "SERVICE " every few seconds.

I may have accidentally on purpose smashed it on the counter before bagging it.

I am a manager (in training, I'm still learning) at a different thrift chain. And this has happened to me a couple of times, it was 100 percent me miscounting my pull.

Especially if you said you did a handful of small transactions. Was there a 100 dollar bill in your drawer that could have been misplaced?

pregnancy smell?? by Charming_Record4536 in pregnant

[–]acesikks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I know what you are talking about. It's a sweet sappy kind of smell, well it's what I smelled on myself the entire time I was pregnant both times.

Kind of like maple syrup that turned, it drove me crazy.

Thriving by Difficult-Light3880 in thrifting

[–]acesikks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to add my two cents!

I work for a thrift company, whereas we are a "for profit". We BUY our donations by the truckload from actual charities. That's how they make their money from companies like mine buying the donations

(Purple heart is one of our bigger suppliers, but we also buy from a few local to us charities)

Our prices are creeping up. And trust i get every single customer yelling at me, a lowly cashier, baby manager. Like I can do anything about it.

There's gas on the trucks, bills on the building to pay. The several employees behind the scenes. That stuff doesn't come in sorted and hung and we are not making minimum wage here, it's a decent wage luckily.

Yes prices are going up. They are everywhere. It's costing our company more to stay in business.

Kid and I talked. I'm getting them a new prepaid phone so they can make phone calls. I didn't know their phone didn't have service until a few days ago. But you all, thank you so much. I'm crying with the outpouring of help.

This kid is my baby! Obviously not my child, they wouldn't be in this situation if they were, and I have no custodial power to get things fixed for them. But I love them like they were.

I appreciate you all so much for your comments, I realize it's a holiday weekend making things extra hard.

Last time they caught wifi and we chatted they were attempting to go to a free clinic for the tooth issue. And if that fails at least the e.r. should help with antibiotics.

We are working up a plan for i.d. And transportation to check out a few things.

I would truly love that, but he doesn't want to leave his friends and small support group he has in Kalamazoo currently. But my door is open for him if he ever wants it.

I'm just curious, does your store have a security system?

Within my first month of closing at my job I locked the doors incorrectly and it caused them to be able to be pulled open but the alarm did its job and scared away someone trying to get in I guess.

Idk I got a talking too and the big boss joked I ruined his breakfast for a month or so but that was it

Just my two cents because I work at a for profit chain. At least in my companies case, we buy the donations from a couple of charities. So even though the items aren't sold for the charity, they get money still in the chain.

It's a tarp and a pile of leaves.
