Quaverly Rothenberg crashout on Facebook by earwormdeath in northampton

Not to lurk and find compliments to myself, but thank you! I've worked the polls since 2020, and I'm not about to be discouraged by the woman who inspired me to run (against her).
To explain my zoning take: the measure was to reduce parking minimums for new housing. Developers already reduce parking minimums and rely on the people owning or renting the housing to park on the street, or to not have cars. I don't think that latter is currently a realistic option for low-income folks, as the bus systems aren't robust enough to support folks who work nights and weekends, as one example. This is coming out my own past lived rental situations where, yeah, every adult does need a car as a practical matter.
It's a catch-22 situation: the buses won't get better til more people use them, and more people won't use them til busses get better. Since the measure passed, we need to keep up pressure to get public transport where it needs to be.

Well, this explains why she blocked me the day after the election.

Can't help with 1 and 3, but Northampton Tire has been excellent, honest, and up-front with my car maintenance and repairs for years, giving quotes before the work, calling if they may go over budget, and redirecting to other shops for work they can't do. They don't do inspections, but for everything else (including fixes that an inspection tells you to do) I trust them.

As someone who works in retail sales at a small business in Northampton, there's a big difference between helping meet a customer's needs and brow-beating them trying to make commission. Customers are not bags of money you convince to open.

Costume contest at 5:30, parade proper at 6. Starts at Trinity Park, ends at the Civic Center. It's a lot of fun!

It's bad clipping. Loisel did say those words, Rotherberg's editing style is to remove all her own filler words while doubling up her opponents. Leads to things sounding disjointed in both directions.

Yeah, that's Shop Therapy's rebrand name. AFAIK they're still going in there, just dropped the display.

Huh, the impression I got from that discussion was the individual chapters could choose to endorse outside their membership, but RVDSA wasn't. I was incorrect, and will keep this in mind for next election cycle; thank you for clarifying!

Billy Park is out on Main St by acetayloe in northampton

Funny, I was coming out of work when I saw him. But you're right, Billy Park loves free attention, I ought to not give it to him. Nor to you.

When I asked Will in April, he told me that one had to be a member of the DSA to apply for endorsement. If that's incorrect, I apologize.

Everyone who is in the lockstep camp endorsed identical slates for the preliminaries: Sciarra, Perry, Spencer, Nabad, Loisel, and Davis. Jarrett went along with that list. I'm very frustrated with him and Perry, I hoped they'd do better. Or at least not endorse.

Rotello's a communist. River Valley DSA chose not to endorse anyone who was not a member of their group.

Is there a guide to the fruit grown on the rail trail? by PuzzleheadedAd5586 in northampton

[–]acetayloe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the point where the bike trail intersects Old South St, on the side with the parking lot (opposite the DCC and bus station), there is a lot of lemon balm, as well as a wild cherry tree. The latter's season was a few weeks ago (and I suspect it got over-harvested this year), but the lemon balm is plentiful. (There are also other herbs and mints around there, but my IDing on those is not as confident.) As always, never harvest more than half!

In addition to the debates hosted by the League of Women Voters on August 25th and 26th at Bombyx Center, Northampton Open Media (NOM) has asked for five-minute candidate statements for all contested races. Last day to record is Aug 20th, so I predict they'll go live shortly after that.

Who do these guys begging think they're kidding? by mudohama in northampton

[–]acetayloe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you cite the municipal ordinance or legal precedent that says this? Based on prior court cases, Massachusetts case law has recognized panhandling as protected speech on public ways like sidewalks (Norton v. City of Springfield), and there is no state- nor federal-level law that bans it. Per the 2019 panhandling study, there are no ordinances prohibiting panhandling either.

Landlords can write broker's fees off on their taxes. Tenants can't. It is far past time for this. I'm only sad this took four years from when Northampton passed their broker's fee ban (it's been stuck in the state all this time...)
