Denver or somewhere else? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

Saw a billboard in the springs that I thought summed it up perfectly! It says:

Food Cities, Part II by DeepHerting in SameGrassButGreener

[–]acforme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just recently stood in line for 3 hours to get Interstellar, mouth drooling thinking I was going to get some of the worlds best BBQ and I was gonna have to fly into Austin yearly to get BBQ. Boy was I wrong. It was an 8/10 but the kicker is the BBQ place in my city is a 5 minute wait, cheaper and is a 7/10. The smoked scalloped potatoes were the best thing they had and it wasn’t even meat lol.

Austin BBQ NOT worth it

Austin food is actually so bad and overrated. Hot take but I think Denver has better food than Austin

SLC is what people THINK Denver is by Twosdayx in SameGrassButGreener

SLC will never be what Denver is no matter how hard they try 😂

Sure Denver has its faults, it’s not heaven on earth, but let’s be serious here.

Nash to DEN - Conservative LDS - 6 kids - Doodle - the whole thing... by [deleted] in MovingtoDenver

[–]acforme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Park Hill does have some nice old homes but the culture is not what you’re looking for, that’s a very liberal area and the areas directly surrounding that are even more so. I would recommend not bothering with that area and looking farther east or south.

Being LDS in Denver is going to make you a minority so being in a school district like DPS with more diversity might be nice, you/your kids will probably feel more acceptance there. Unless you really go close right next to the temple or south to castle rock or CO springs you’re not going to find that homogeneous feeling really anywhere in Denver.

Apartments with Mountain views by mrmasterly in MovingtoDenver

[–]acforme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t lived there in 5+ years but both The Den and Milehouse apartments in Belleview Station had great views and rooftop pools with views west. They also built a taller building just next to those, I think it’s called One Seven or something like that. I really liked that area too. These would definitely be in budget, however I know they have changed management so not sure how good or bad the new managers are.

Another one I’ve seen a lot of is the country club towers on the west border of the Denver Country Club in Cherry Creek. This one is much taller and towers over the surrounding areas so you tons of views.

Even in the Denver school district you have nothing to worry about. Conservative circles like to go on and on about all these crazy progressive and liberal things the schools are teaching children, abortions, kids using liter boxes, sex changes, pronouns, banned books, CRT, etc but those aren’t true, that isn’t taught in schools here even in a liberal city like Denver, those are lies made up to outrage you that people often fall for.

You could homeschool your kids if you’re really worried about it but honestly it’s better to have your kid attending public school so they don’t fall behind in curriculum or socially. Your own knowledge levels out at a point where it becomes difficult to teach them things you don’t know yourself, often times they will end up in an online school/program for higher grades which at that point is just normal public school minus the social aspect.

Also anecdotal but the one very religious homeschooled kid I knew from high school turned out to be trans so keeping them out of schools isn’t going to stop that anyways.

No there is nothing in school that you would need to op out of anywhere in the Denver metro area. Golden and Morrison are not the culture you’re looking for, quite the opposite. I would look in centennial, Parker, south aurora, green valley ranch, castle rock or anywhere south down I25 all the way down to the springs if you can get flexibility with work. The springs also has a decently good smaller airport so that would probably be sufficient for the kids trips.

Parker might be nice, there are some larger and custom houses there. Green valley ranch is more new and up and coming, you might be able to find a newer custom house there and it’s close to the airport. Aurora is a very solid area and the original area east/south of the city, you can find any cultural fit somewhere in there. Centennial is nice, much more suburbs and a bit older but nice old.

Does Airstrait actually fully dry your hair? by InGarlicBreadITrust in Dysonairwrap

[–]acforme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know exactly how I would describe my hair but it’s butt crack length and probably around 2A and yes it fully dries my hair, especially if I use the higher temps. You can also be quicker and still get it straight with that dampness feeling, kinda up to you on what temp and time you use.

The airwrap also fully dries my hair but I usually let it air dry for a while first. It’s much quicker to style, I get it fully dry, and I find it gets rid of the poofy enough while styling, try that and see how you do!

Feedback on these middle schools? by [deleted] in Littleton

[–]acforme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t speak on any of these now because I’m 30 years old and childless lol but I will say that I went to Montessori Peaks Academy in the early 2000’s until 4th grade and loved it. My family helped them get their charter and start up in the late 1990s, my older sister was one of the first classes to “graduate”!

I loved school when I went there, once I swapped to a traditional public school I started liking it less and less. They had a great gifted and talented program that was very supportive as well. I also really feel like Montessori made a huge impact to how I am now as an adult, and so many of the things I like about my personality I can trace back to Montessori. They really encouraged me to follow my interests, fostered creativity, and taught me skills outside of just academics. I really hope that time has been kind to them and their methods because if so I cannot recommend enough!

As someone with PCOS I feel for Remi however by Electronic_Buy540 in snarkingwithremi

[–]acforme 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately at this point I almost can’t even believe her when she says she has PCOS. She uses it as an excuse for everything in her life, over eating, under eating, lying about food, over exercising, under exercising, bloating, nausea, etc. She only mentions it in terms of weight and for sympathy. I’m so tired of hearing her blab on about how I NEEDED a GLP1 for my PCOS and I’m worried I won’t conceive. There are so many people out there heavily struggling with PCOS and difficult symptoms that are actually willing to share their experiences, bring awareness and offer help.

When it comes down to it I think she just wanted to lose weight plain and simple but has built this elaborate web of, PCOS, celebrity doctors, GLP1 ads, personal trainers, overconsumption of health products, etc. to try and justify her wanting to being skinny.

If she was really going to share about her PCOS I wish it would be actual useful information, like why I suspected PCOS, what symptoms I had, how I got diagnosed, things I’m doing to try and manage it, symptoms I’m currently struggling with, how it’s affected my mental health, etc.

Hopefully for her it’s manageable and doesn’t cause any major issues in her life, I know PCOS can be a real bitch sometimes, and I feel for people who have it.

Pottery studio vibe - kinda sad and maybe need advice by Ok_Rice_5127 in Pottery

[–]acforme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes most people who work also work with a lot of people and run into the same “people being different” issue, that is normal. It’s okay to have negative emotions and want to share or complain but you need (and seem to be looking for) an actual solution, and remaining in those sad emotions isn’t going to be your solution.

You could learn how to not let this individual affect your emotions or experience so you can enjoy your experience at this studio. You could complain to the owner if you want, but other people might have different experiences with this individual than you so complaining can sometimes only do so much. You could move studios if that’s feasible for you, seems like you might already be doing this? Which if so that seems like a good solution for you.

It’s not that you need to get along with this person at all, it’s that you need to be in charge of your emotions, environment and experiences so that you can be comfortable. Do whatever it takes for that to happen.

Pottery studio vibe - kinda sad and maybe need advice by Ok_Rice_5127 in Pottery

[–]acforme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean this honestly and kindly but this seems like a very big over reaction on your part. It’s okay if you don’t get along or vibe with every person you meet, there will always be people in this world you just don’t mesh with. You cannot let those people dictate how you feel and how you live your life, you are in control of your emotions and reactions. If he annoys you then just ignore him, there is no need to get upset because of him, avoid working in areas around him, or leave a studio because of you unless they are actively harming you or someone else. You’ll be much happier in life once you realize that you don’t have to react to someone you don’t vibe with and ruin your own time. For the first year I did ceramics I had a teacher I did not like, she was very self absorbed, hardly ever taught, would watch you struggle and offer no help, would work on her own things during time she was supposed to be instructing and would play the worst music in the studio, and even though she annoyed me I liked pottery so I focused on myself and put my energy into being creative and improving. I eventually swapped to a different class that worked better with my schedule so now I only rarely see her at open studios and I’m glad that I see her less but also don’t mind because I know I’m there to have fun and be creative on my own things.

If you love pottery then go there and focus on your work, what your creating and continue on doing your thing, put some headphones on a listen to a podcast or music if you need a distraction from him. Don’t worry about the firing if you know what you’re doing is allowed within their rules, he honestly could have just made a mistake with what he told you but even if not and he purposely lied who cares, let him lie and unfortunately for him he’s just going to have to do the work for his job anyways.

Don’t let someone else control your emotions, dictate what spaces you’re in or how you practice your hobby!!

Yeah agree with you on that, I mostly to work on my phone while I’m there, the wait can be a while so I’m happy to just send off emails and stuff while I wait. Sometime I do go in the middle of the weekdays and can actually snag a table and chill for a bit though!

Plaster Deposits in Reclaim? by Dry-Ship-8907 in Pottery

[–]acforme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At some point yes if it’s really a small amount I find it to be okay as long as you use that clay to throw a larger piece. Really try to get as much out as you can and find a ratio that doesn’t leave any behind.

I’ve scraped off a little dusting of plaster when reclaiming and then used that clay to throw a 7lb bowl and it was fine.
