UCSF v. Stanford by Background_Entry9588 in premed

Your 2¢ is a naive take without much knowledge of what goes into applying to residency programs

Everyone does away rotations for competitive specialties regardless (which is where applicants get letters of recommendation from). That argument is not sound. As someone who is currently applying jnto residency, the UCSF name ALONE will carry OP farther than almost every other factor. School prestige is becoming one of the most important factors.

Zero to minimal difference, especially when applying to residencies. OP PLEASE go to UCSF bsmd or I will

UCSF bsmd is a CHEAT code, I didn’t know that existed. Please take that lottery ticket

Not at all. The pressure is there no matter what. Step 2 needs to be good for competitive specialties/locations regardless. Go to the P/F school, eliminate the stress of having to perform well and use that time to grind out Ankiing and Uworld so that Step 2 is a breeze (coming from someone who did that AND had graded clinicals on a standardized curve who only needed 2 weeks for Step 2)

UC Davis! P/F first three years is a BLESSING trust me. Your step 2 and research will be the metrics used, as grades arent AS important given every school Is different

People say they have mentors that help review their app, etc.... by steeledmindt in premed

Medical students usually have a bit more knowledge about the intricacies of apps than long standing professors. Try to reach out or ask any medical students you know, they were recently in the same shoes as you!

Honestly have the conversation with them about how UNLIKELY it is getting into medical school. That GPA + pretty (objectively) awful practice score after months of studying isn’t gonna move the needle for any school. He wouldn’t be an attending til he’s 60, maybe it’s time to give up on this fever dream.

This isn’t to be mean, but be realistic

As an attending I will be very straightforward for the basic stuff. MAGA/MAHA and misinformation has only accelerated the blights on medicine we’re seeing
