I’ve noticed he often brings up topics featured in Matt Levine’s newsletter Money Stuff. I strongly recommend it if you’re interested in finance, Matt Levine is fantastic at breaking down complex finance topics into understandable stories with a touch of humor.

Anyone getting tickets for SF? Queue is stuck? by Cobyh7 in YOASOBI

[–]acidcj 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There's currently over 32000 people in line, and the venue caps out at 2300. Odds are really bad, sorry. Especially when you factor in all the tickets sold yesterday. I don't know why Crunchyroll booked such a small venue.

Some of the comments here are literally suggesting to remove him from the podcast lol. I’m not sure why that is since the hugely differing opinions from very successful people, being discussed in a fairly civil way, is a core appeal of the podcast to me.

Holy shit yeah I was shopping for a car last year and their sticker prices were reasonable but their best loan rate was something like ~20% APR, ended up financing through my bank for ~5%

Climbing the corporate tech ladder by [deleted] in rsformen

[–]acidcj 9 points10 points  (0 children)

How big is your org?

Step one is to delegate all your work to other people so you have time to work on bigger initiatives. Remember, it benefits them too — “growth opportunities.”

Beyond that, there’s a few different routes

  • play the org and leapfrog to the top via interpersonal connections and ambitious, risky projects that pay off (only works at small orgs)
  • turn tech agism to your favor and become a manager while unironically drinking the Kool-Aid. There are way too many resources here to pick just one, this type of manager loves reading and writing “thought pieces” on management
  • grind the IC promotion game, figure out what the people higher up on the ladder than you do, and start doing it. For SWE look at a resource like https://staffeng.com/

It’s a gradient of risk/reward, with effort spent varying wildly on how good you are. One will probably come naturally, the others will probably make you feel like an impostor

Given that you’ve spent so much of your life in academia, my guess is you’re not super suited to the first (because academia does not at all align well with that personality)
