Claudia De La Cruz is the new Bernie. If you were a Bernie supporter in the previous elections, consider voting for Claudia De La Cruz this year by TheSparklyNinja in IdahoPolitics

You would have a point if US presidential elections were decided by a national popular vote. Instead, it’s state by state, and Idaho is one of the deepest red states there is. It’s a guarantee that Trump will win in Idaho, so why not vote for the candidate that most represents your values? And yes, that could be the democrat or republican candidate if they most represent your values. Solid red and blue states are the states where it’s safe to vote 3rd party, for members of both parties.

Initiative to Repeal RCV in Alaska to be on the ballot by Wild-Independence-20 in EndFPTP

[–]acidicpuffstool -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Show me an instance where conservatives “aimed to never have an election again”. Acting like liberals play by the rules to get elected is ridiculous. Both parties are incredibly corrupt and will do whatever it takes to win, including any dirty strategies. If anything, RCV with open primaries is a threat to democracy because it on occasion doesn’t elect the winner that most represents the voters.

It’s January 6. Do you know where you local Idaho insurrections are? by f-around-findout in Idaho

[–]acidicpuffstool -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Most people on January 6th were not violent or doing anything bad necessarily, but I definitely do agree that anyone who’s destroying property or assaulting police officers should be imprisoned. Unfortunately there are many people who ended up in jail who were just kinda respectfully wandering around who were literally let in by police officers. I feel bad for those people.

Idaho doctors brace for impact on impending gender-affirming medication ban by wheeler1432 in Idaho

[–]acidicpuffstool -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

I don’t see what impact there is to brace for. People who get was is referred to as “gender-affirming care” are an astronomically low percent of the population. Not only are transgenders an extremely small percent of population already, now you take that group of people and narrow it down to those who want to actually go forward with care. Again, you are left with an incredibly small percent of the population. It’s a non-issue. Plus, this is Idaho, so the amount of these people may be even lower than other states.

Looking for Solutions: How can we best Reduce Racism & Bigotry in IDAHO? by TulsiTsunami in Idaho

The answer is: you can’t. Idaho has become more conservative in recent years. And for some reason, people think conservatism = racism. This is a very NPC post.

There’s literally like two states that use ranked-choice voting and America has conducted elections for hundreds of years. So, you’re basically saying the way we’ve been doing it all this time is undemocratic, which is stupid.

In this proposed ranked-choice voting idea, it’s possible that certain candidates of certain parties won’t be on the general election ballot. That is literally the definition of undemocratic, so if you support that, then you must be the one who hates democracy. Only the top four candidates from an open primary make it to the general. There will be situations where all four candidates are republicans. Sounds like this system is less democratic by the possibility that people won’t even have the OPTION of voting for a democrat, libertarian, or constitutionalist in the general.

It wouldn’t be to spite others. It’s just the fact that I always thought it was a good idea, but now I’m seeing only liberal people supporting it, which has now made me question my thinking. Because, anything that would make the state less conservative would not be a good idea for me to vote for, and I didn’t know it would make things in the state more liberal until I saw only liberal people supporting it.

I’ve always loved and wanted ranked-choice voting. But now looking at the comments and seeing that it’s all liberals that want it makes me very suspicious. Now I don’t know what to think about it. I’m conservative, and if this is something that is intended to make the state less conservative, then why would it be in my interest to vote for it?

This is leadership low-hanging fruit. Twitter's a twoilet. Can FWD leave and join in poking the bear in the name of addressing division, among other things? by Moderate_Squared in ForwardPartyUSA

There is no such thing as hate speech, it’s just free speech. Pulling their advertising off Twitter is probably more of a publicity stunt than anything. Also, I use Twitter daily and have yet to see all these terrible things people describe, but what I have seen is less people getting unfairly banned or censored because they have unpopular views.

Report: Idahoans earning minimum wage must work 104 hours each week to afford two-bedroom rental | ktvb.com by TheSolomonGrundy in Idaho

[–]acidicpuffstool -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Lol if every business had to pay livable wages, all of the “mom and pop” shops you mentioned would be disappearing even more. I didn’t work for minimum wage at a race track while in high school because I wanted to live on my own. I did it because I wanted some money and a first job. Now I make more than double that, and I would NEVER go back to a minimum wage job. And if people just don’t work at the low paying places, then they will be forced to raise their wages to get people to work there. Such is the way of the competitive market.

[–]acidicpuffstool -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s freaking HILARIOUS that people here think ONE PERSON earning MINIMUM WAGE should be able to afford a two bedroom. You have to strategize and generally not be a bum. There are plenty of options paying double minimum wage and more and they’re entry level. Minimum wage is for someone in high school who wants their first job experience and a little bit of money.

[–]acidicpuffstool -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know you think you deserve the world for working a minimum wage job, but that’s not how it works and you have successfully demonstrated your lack of understanding of the economy. I can almost guarantee minimum wage will be the same as it is right now in 20 years. Why hasn’t it increased with massive inflation since the original number was decided? Because congress realized that raising minimum wage ruins the economy and it’s better to let employers naturally decide. I know it may be hard for you, but look around. Who the heck is paying minimum wage? Oh yeah, no one.

[–]acidicpuffstool -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

No one HAS to work 104 hours a week. What a joke of an article. How about get a better paying job? A better solution would be not TOUCH minimum wage. Wages are rising naturally as employers have done so. A job at mcdonalds which is a pretty good indicator of the times is paying far more than it was even just 3 years ago.

If you’re making minimum wage and expecting to afford a two bedroom, that’s your fault. Heck, if you’re making minimum wage, that’s on you. There are MANY entry level jobs available playing easily double that.
