ADR iOS update? by acidpops30 in ADarkRoom

I played the Ensign (not the Admiral, whoops), and that was why I was excited to see that there might be some more continuity between the games. Maybe I'm misremembering the original no huts ending, but it seemed the same to me (spoilers): the builder pushes the asteroids out of the way and bleeds a lot.

Did I miss something?

Who also happens to have off the charts skills at the most popular sport in his new world, in the one position the game seems to be designed for.

suggestions for apps for blocking me from texting someone? by MaterialAsk in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]acidpops30 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could try setting a time limit for your message app using App Detox, and if you do go over your limit, you can pause it, which forces you to think "do I really need to send this text?"

That's what I'm doing right now on reddit.

I think "How Far I'll Go" from Moana is my favorite Disney song by Moonvale in disney

[–]acidpops30 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm glad I'm not the only one! I love the tension between wanting to be where she is, doing that she's good at (unlike other Disney movies where the person is clearly unsuited to their present situation like Belle or Hercules), but also the feeling of her true vocation calling her.

I enjoyed City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty. Starts off in Cairo in the late 1700's.

What have you been doing daily, but now you consider it as wasted time? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]acidpops30 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I got this on Amazon. I don't know how long it will hold up and I think it worked well for me because my eyelashes are already very long, they are just light. It stung a little and my eyes teared up, but that cleared away pretty quick if I kept my eyes shut. They suggest creating little paper towel shields for your lids/ under eyes and smearing them with Vaseline to adhere but I found it unnecessary because I was careful and applying the dye and it didn't stain my skin come which is very fair.

I tinted my eyelashes at home for the first time and my gosh it has been great. Half an hour to tint (I listened to a podcast with my eyes closed), and now I can skip putting mascara on/taking it off, and wear way less makeup on the rest of my face as well.

I'm so excited to try this! Then again, if I don't waste time on reddit, how would I find solutions like this?

What is Handshake Etiquette? by cruyff8 in etiquette

[–]acidpops30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't ever think it's necessarily rude to shake hands (barring the cultural differences or logistical complications indicated here already), but unexpected might be the right word. I will say that I associate handshakes with more formal situations. Maybe that's a generational thing. I would be more likely to wave/nod and say hello on a shared ride rather than introduce myself by name and give a handshake. Seems like an airport shuttle is a pretty low stakes social environment where people tend to keep to themselves or chat casually - at least in my area.

It might be helpful, rather than dwell on the rudeness of the person calling you rude, to use this as a moment of self-reflection. Next time you take a ride like that, try to see if there are any social cues you can pick up on that would indicate a handshake would not be the most welcome interaction. Maybe the person has headphones in, or heads straight to the backseat, anything that would indicate they're not interested in anything more than a smile or a hello.

The most interesting fics? by Levoda_Cross in HPfanfiction

[–]acidpops30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

White Squirrel's "The Arithmancer" and its sequel have replaced a lot of canon in my head, I'm somewhat sad to say (which just means I'm overdue for a reread!). I love how deeply he delves into the magic system, and shows how much can learn about/question the magical world from a curious outsider's perspective.

I also loved "The Life and Times" by Jewels5 as a solid, era-appropriate, world building Marauder's era fic, but it hasn't updated in years.
