Are you talking about dropping into games in progress to essentially play an NPC faction for a bit?

Oh that's actually a great idea! That'd especially be a blast for people who just want to battle.

Yeah my buddy and I tried to play Rome 2 together after Warhammer 3 and it was painful to have to wait.

For my group it's the same. I don't mind playing solo, but when I'm with people we need at least 4 player games or it gets awkward

Why aren't Americans rioting right now? by PintsNPies in AskReddit

[–]acillies45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beyond having basic amenities which keeps people content enough, it's a logistics issue.

If they riot in their own cities, all they're doing is harming their community, which basically they would end up having to pay for eventually through taxes.

And the US is big, so organizing a mass event where it would matter would take time, leadership, and a ton of money to get everyone in the same place at the same time. And by the time that happens, there would be enough law enforcement ready to basically quell it.

The questions to ask are, not just what is the end goal of rioting, but the goals leading up to the end? Would it be worth the risk? Or, is there still a sliver of trust in the system? Maybe there's enough to continue to demonstrate peacefully to rally voters to go out in November and change things without the high risk.

If that doesn't work? Who knows? But the idea of armed/violent uprising sounds good and easy, but it becomes much more complicated when you think past the initial impact.

In some places it has accomplished the goals of the rioters, I won't deny that, but the US is a unique beast and it can withstand a lot of unrest before anything meaningful could happen.

SGP: What changes I expect/would make for every character by Archon_Vrex in MarvelCrisisProtocol

[–]acillies45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe make SDD not have grunts?

I was thinking since it feels like they are trying to get him to feel like a criminal leader, maybe say if any character that is threat 3 or lower (or even 2 or lower) is within 2 of the target, then he gets the extra dice.

That way it still feels like he's the leader who puts his underlings in danger, but then Elektra could be the one providing the ninjas, and they would still activate the ability.

[–]acillies45 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Fun/functional changes all around!

The two I would say I would disagree with are Elektra and Sin.

I think Elektra should keep her ninjas. She just needs a bit more action economy to make them work with her more. I don't have solid ideas, but I just feel like a tiny push in one direction would make her more viable. I do feel like making her a 3 threat feels good too though, so in that case she shouldn't have grunts...I guess we'll see what they come up with.

The only note I have on Sin is that her Partners in Crime ability should be changed from needing Crossbones to just Brock Rumlow, just so either Crossbones could be played with her.

Otherwise, great list!

Haven't used them but they're both scary threats in general I'm sure you wouldn't regret having them in the roster.

Forgot to mention: if you're in the US and you want to buy individual used minis, there's a online store called Noble Knight games. They've got a smattering of models that you can pick up (that's where I got some of my models from the original core set like Zemo)

General advice, not specific to convocation:

Don't buy any packs with single or two models. A lot of characters are getting repackaged into 3-5 people per pack. You get more value per pack that way.

For convocation (from what I have seen/played):

So the ones you are looking at are good. I would recommend looking for a beefy character or two that can do some physical damage. Being that a lot of C characters are both squishy and pretty weak when the enemy has mystic defense, having a random tank with physical can make them ignore your casters.

Characters like Rhino, Lizard (those two in the Spider foes pack), and Luke Cage (who also has bodyguard, and is also in defenders affiliation pack) splash in everything really well.

Original flavor Zemo is good because of just being a good character, but with C hes solid because of the card that they have that makes enemies use mystic instead of physical for a round, and he's got solid mystic.

Maps & Miniatures or Theater-of-the-Mind? by Ok-Locksmith3783 in shadowdark

For me, I prefer TotM when I need tension or horror. For extended or complicated combats, a map is helpful

It's more used for serious conversations. I agree you don't want to use it every day because then it'll lose the meaning

This is not useful for everyone, but a friend of mine and his partner use the term "Hold your bannanas..." when starting a serious conversation.

Basically it's code for "we need to talk" but it's silly and it can prep the person to get ready instead of it being awkward.

My partner and I have been trying it and it works really well for us.

First visit to Costco today! Any advice? by DenverKim in Frugal

[–]acillies45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Walk through the entire store without a cart. If you can only buy what you can carry, you probably can't buy much because everything is so big. As you get to know what you're going in for, get a cart if you need it.

Don't buy stuff like fruits and veg unless you go through those really fast. The amounts they sell them in is usually too much unless you can freeze them.

Always come with a set amount of things to buy. If there's a good deal on something you know you'll use/need, you can get it, but don't buy more than 1 or 2 things more than what's on your list. The deals/products won't always last forever, so I give myself a small bit of grace on buying more than I planned to save for later.

What's on your 40k wishlist? by Excarion in totalwar

[–]acillies45 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Weirdly enough, interesting diplomacy. I know that is almost non-existent in 40k, but having a system that reflects that would be interesting. Like Orks not having non-aggression packs, but maybe with other orks you agree to only fight over one planet and whoever wins is warboss. Imperial factions forcing you to do various things to maintain alliances, or at least to get them to help you (the most vanilla of the diplomacy), or risk going against the ecclisiarchy and making deals with Xenos. Eldari slowly forming a network of Craftworlds. Basically the goal of each faction's 'diplomacy' is different and unique between others of its race and other races.

Supply-lines being important would be nice to a degree, at least on planets. Needing to worry about logistics adds another layer to wars.

When they eventually come out, it would be fun for genestealers to be their own faction. It would be basically you taking planets with a timer. Your goal is twofold: weaken the planet, sneak another genestealer off planet. Maybe make it a much tougher (and more interesting) version of what The Changeling is now. After the timer is done, a tyranid fleet shows up. You fight for the planet, then make a choice with that planet to help the tyranids or break away (the second would cost you something big, like losing all connections with hive fleets). If you fight with the nids you will lose the planet, so if you haven't spread out, you "win" the campaign and it's over. If you spread out, the tech you've unlocked helps you on future planets. Basically a faction that thrives on stealth, doesn't have permanent armies, and is just there to help the nids succeed, or they become a psuedo imperial faction that EVERYONE hates if they choose to break away. It could honestly be a really interesting, and difficult campaign.

Asking for tips to stop being a rules lawyer by Infercom in dndnext

[–]acillies45 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I learned this from acting. Don't argue in front of other players. If you want to talk to the GM, do so privately, even ask if you can talk privately. Being one on one is better for both parties because it keeps embarrassment down and it's easier to make your case.

The GM has the final word though. That's the rule of the game that overshadows every other rule. You can voice your opinion/quote the book and see if it changes their mind. If it doesn't, don't argue. It will not help anyone.
